There is a story on MSNBC asking "what would you do if you won the lottery?"... and someone also posited, "if you had wealth, what wouldn't you want that comes with that".

Depending on how big the windfall... and assuming it's the kind that means I "never have to worry"

-Buy a modest house and 30-100 acres of land in my favorite place.
-Invest enough to have a steady income.
-Work any job that I wanted.
-Spend as much time with my son and wife as I can.
-Invest in a few modest hobbies
-Build a decent shop (woodworking and cars)
-Give a reasonable amount to charity
------------
-Fly first class all the time
-Drive cars less than 5 years old
------------
-Pay off my brother's and family's mortgages and debt.
------------
-Cover my nephews' and nieces' educations after HS.
-Donate to charities that I believe in.
-Invest more.

That's what I would do with the money...

... but you can distill that down to

-Time,
-Intellectual Stimulation,
-Generosity,
-The ability to do something about things I care about.

And what I don't want...

Fame.

Cool! What I don't want: stuff. For myself I would like to travel, but not go see--go stay in a cabin or apartment for a few weeks in different places. The rest, like you, I'd want to cover needs of people close to me. I have #1 on your list. But I want to spend summers in our CO house. The summers here are getting unbearable. Like my grandparents in 1954, Stan and I were lucky to get a mountain home dirt cheap, and I can't wait to be there.

I'm leaving in the next hour to drive to Boise to see my son. He'll be playing Boise State and then Utah State tomorrow. I'm so excited. I haven't seen him since January and I haven't seen him play collegiate tennis at all. I'm also looking forward to the drive. Just me, my music and the radio in my BMW rocketing down I-84.

How fun!

We're going to two plays this weekend, one dinner, one brunch, and to a jazz concert.

Enjoyed my bday today. Last night we went out to dinner for some scrumptious eats...veal Osso bucco stuffed canellini...and drunken cherries which are cherries soaked in grappa served over creamy vanilla ice cream with hit chocolate sauce and whipped cream. Yummo! Today I've been totally lazy for most of the day until finally decided to do some work on the bathroom valance which is coming along nicely. Hubby finished refinishing the park bench for our patio...nice.

Come join me in a glass of vino and a slice of stilton with apricots!

26864. thoughtful - 4/2/2012 9:35:56 PM

Thanks vonK! I'm happy to celebrate my birthday all year long...after all, it takes a full year to get to the next one!

26865. judithathome - 4/2/2012 10:55:16 PM

Mine is coming up soon...this year, I'd just as soon skip it.

26866. arkymalarky - 4/3/2012 8:21:21 PM

Are y'all okay? Hate to call.

26867. arkymalarky - 4/3/2012 8:35:10 PM

Tornadoes hitting D/FW area.

26868. judithathome - 4/3/2012 10:23:35 PM

We're fine...nothing hit around here...it skipped us.

David was here and we all watched the mayhem east of us on local TV.

If I hadn't mentioned it, I recommend "The Thirteenth Tale" by Diane Setterfield. Has everything a gothic novel should have including a neat resolution that ties up all the loose ends.

Happy Easter Everyone!

How cute! Happy Easter!

Hi, thoughtful -

Nice picture!

Btw, I've got an Easter plus one day story regarding my cat, 'Nightling'.

I was eating dinner after getting home from work this evening and was starting with a salad with lots of thousand island dressing on it.

Well, a piece of lettuce all gooey with dressing flipped off my fork and wound up somewhere under the table. I took a look around, expecting to find the lettuce stuck to the floor, but instead it was glued to Nightling's hind leg by a big glob of thousand island dressing. You see, she likes to hang around while I eat probably because I sometimes pet her.

Well, normally, I'd expect any cat to freak out and head for the hills if a big globby piece of lettuce flew onto their leg and stuck there, but she was cool, just sat there, and let me pull the hunk of lettuce off of her, and even wipe most of the dressing off her fur before she left. It was like she was giving me a chance to clean up my mess:)

I was alternately apologizing to her and making like that snickering hound I remember in old cartoons, but she took it all in stride. Cats can be surprising.
