Merry Christmas to all Moties, near and far!

27101. judithathome - 12/25/2012 8:26:57 PM

Slept late....but Merry Christmas and everyone's invited to come to our New Year's Day party!!

27102. arkymalarky - 12/25/2012 8:47:45 PM

I hope y'all have it again next year. Stan will be retired and we can finally go. I wish we'd get a couple of days after New Year's.

Of course we may be out for snow....what's it doing at your house?

27103. judithathome - 12/25/2012 9:12:44 PM

HUGE snowflakes...not sticking as well as it should because earlier, it was raining.

Beautiful, wild, every-which-way fluffly flakes of snow! Most is sticking now but it's a long way from "snowman" territory.

27104. arkymalarky - 12/26/2012 12:44:15 AM

3 inches of rain here and chunky freezing rain. No snow yet. Elec was out but is back on for the moment.

Happy Xmas everyone!

We had 10 for dinner and everything came out great...everyone had a wonderful time. I am full and happier than I've been in a long time.

I told my dear cousin how much I liked the painting she did of the antique doll. She had it hanging in her staircase and no one there seemed to appreciate it, so she said I could have it on long-term loan. I am just so delighted and have the perfect place to hang it in my house. I promised her we would be good stewards of it. And she was glad it would be in a place of honor in our house, in our foyer where all who come to visit will see it prominently displayed.

It may be hard to see, but she painted a tear on the doll's face as she was up in the attic where no one was playing with her any more.

Lovely Thoughtful! So glad you had a good family Christmas!

Mose had to leave early due to the weather, but we're enjoying beautiful snow.

27107. thoughtful - 12/26/2012 4:13:21 AM

Thanks Arky....snow is wonderful, so long as you don't have to travel in it.

Hope your holiday was happy even if cut short....

27108. arkymalarky - 12/26/2012 5:40:59 AM

It really was.

Day late, dollar short but :

A fun rendering of a modern classic. Katzenjammer are a wondrous outfit.

Season's greetings to all. I pour out libations to you, and to us.

27110. arkymalarky - 12/26/2012 5:58:43 PM

Hope your holiday is great Alistair!

Got off Facebook a week ago today. I hate I missed the Christmas posts, but oh well.

My father-in-law used to tell a joke about an old woman who, after having a large wart on her nose most of her life, finally got it removed. Her neighbor asked if she missed it, and she said, "yes, but I'm glad it's gone."

There are great things about it, but the bad was outweighing the good. I may go back later, but it will be awhile.

27112. judithathome - 12/26/2012 7:21:12 PM

I watched a documentary about Facebook last night and it just cemented my vow to never join...the snots in charge were very snide about "return customers"...like anyone who quits can't stay away.

I didn't realize they had so many avenues of "vending out" all your infomation...or that you have to delete each picture in your account individually or they can keep them and do what they want with them.

27113. arkymalarky - 12/26/2012 7:42:23 PM

It's the best way to stay in contact with family and friends who are far away, and if it weren't for FB's refusal to control for spam and ads, and friends refusing to keep their political shit off it--including my family--I'd love it. But like I told a friend, it's making me have negative feelings about people I care about.

We're supposed to pontificate here. I don't want that on FB. When our exchange students left and when people scattered after Delight was shut down, FB really helped the transition by making it possible to not say goodbye. But that was a long time ago and we have retooled our interactions.

27114. arkymalarky - 12/26/2012 7:45:07 PM

What I miss most is all my former students, here and abroad. I'm very proud of them and their successes in academics, marriage, as parents, in their careers.

27115. alistairconnor - 12/27/2012 12:18:26 PM

I have found fb handy in staying in touch with my NZ family and friends, by providing some sort of continuity between wide-spaced visits, even if it's mostly one way (I keep an eye on them from time to time and rarely post anything).
But the ability to drop in an avuncular comment when they are fooling around with their friends is amusing. And may be a timely reminder that hey, they are doing this in public.

27116. arkymalarky - 12/27/2012 6:27:52 PM

I loved it for that and it may eventually compel me back. But FB needs to fix some things. I can't change people using it as a stump, but that wasn't the main reason I left. It's easy enough to just block my newsfeed from them, which I did for my parents, brother and aunt until after the election. And I agreed with three of them, but jeez, save it for somewhere else.

Got Power, Arky?

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — As a the muted ends of a powerful winter storm that has killed more than a dozen people plodded through the Northeast, many in Arkansas sought warmth and shelter against the cold prospect of life without electricity into the new year.
