Trillium, we went very green when we built. We did geothermal heating and cooling with a desuperheater to preheat our hot water, 5 kw of solar panels, solar tempered house design, closed cell spray foam insulation, all duct work in conditioned space, casement windows, wood stove, and tankless hot water heaters. Further, we built into a southern facing slope so the basement level is finished living space and open to the south side. We don't heat or cool the lower level which maintains a temp of between 63 and 78 all year round. So the entire package got us to our result. We estimate that the solar panels provide 54% of our electricity usage which is the primary energy used in the house as the geothermal system runs on electric pumps. We don't use oil at all. We use LP gas (no nat gas available) to run our hot water heaters, our gas fireplace and our 20 kw generator.

Okay, Moties: What say you?

"The Wire" or "Breaking Bad"?

27656. judithathome - 9/30/2013 6:18:19 AM

No question: The Wire.

27657. arkymalarky - 9/30/2013 1:22:32 PM

I'm not watching either, but all the Arkhies around here, including my dad, are into Breaking Bad

27658. Trillium - 10/4/2013 9:07:38 PM

Interesting, Thoughtful! Thanks.

Hate to come here with such a mundane subject but I am SOOOO looking forward to a movie running on TV tonight: it's Gena Gershon playing Donatella, the sister of the late Gianni in House of Versace...it's on Lifetime and should be so very bad that it's good...ya know?

27660. arkymalarky - 10/6/2013 1:14:20 AM

hey it's the cafe. You're supposed to post stuff like that here!

27661. arkymalarky - 10/6/2013 1:17:23 AM

I just hate I missed Lindsay Lohan playing Elizabeth Taylor

27662. judithathome - 10/6/2013 5:21:37 PM

God, it was as bad as I thought it would be!

Nearly feel off the couch whe I saw Raquel Welch playing her aunt...first I thought she was dead and upon seeing her, figured out she was just embalmed.

27663. thoughtful - 10/8/2013 1:26:51 PM

Nah...Raquel looks great...if you don't mind the fact that only about 4 muscles on her face move at all...

27664. judithathome - 10/8/2013 6:26:55 PM

Well, that's what I meant.

That and the fact her teeth look like someone else's.

She did a good job, though.

I guess I just admire actresses who choose to go "nature's way" in aging...of course, we don't see much of them because of that but still....

27665. judithathome - 10/8/2013 6:32:47 PM

Just looked her up and she was 3 when I was born. I certainly don't look as put together as she does but at least the muscles in my face move when I smile or get angry. Ha!

Oh well...we look to the screen for unreality...and she certainly does a great job of THAT!

27666. Ms. No - 10/19/2013 11:29:02 PM

It is now 7:55 in the morning and I have been up since 5:30. I have swept and damp-mopped the living room. Taken out the trash and recycling, washed all the dishes, put away all my leather-crafting tools, and had the cable guys out.

This is what comes of going to bed at 8 o'clock.

I must admit that yesterday was also very productive. I think maybe it's just a phase of the moon.

Met my new doctor yesterday and I'm very pleased. I think I will see no one but female, Indian physicians for the rest of my life. I like their bedside manner best of all the doctors I've ever met. Seriously, I'm four for four with them.

Had my first ever mammogram and have to say that nothing makes tits less sexy than a mammogram. I mean, aside from the discomfort and the fact that they're looking for cancer, the whole thing is just totally lacking in dignity. If you're going to squish breasts like that, you ought to be using leather or rope restrains or something, right? Just mashing them about like that makes them seem like silly putty or bread dough or something.

And there's the technician just slinging them around and plumping and fluffing and stretching and all like it's not your freaking breast fer chrissakes. Come on, I've never been so misshandled even when I had the misfortune to hook up with a drunken frat boy.

Jeeze. Made me want to go about flashing my tits at men on the street saying "Yeah! See there? That's a sexy, delectable bit of woman-flesh. Makes you all drooly, right? Good. Now that I've got that affirmation I'm putting it away."

27667. Ms. No - 10/19/2013 11:30:33 PM

Ooooh! I got the sign of the devil post!

And it was 7:55 when I compose it. I just now got back to the computer and realized that I hadn't actually posted the darn thing.

27668. arkymalarky - 10/20/2013 3:01:24 AM

Hahaha!

I just left my Dr and I'm very happy with the change. I really prefer my drs at least pretend to give a shit. We're having pizza n Fayetteville with Mose and SIL. Good times.

27669. thoughtful - 10/20/2013 4:13:45 AM

Kwitcherbellyachin' ms no! Nothing wrong with coming out of a mammo looking more like a picasso painting than a normal human! Mom always used to say she needed to pack a square bra after a mammo. I'm always afraid they're going to squeeze so hard they'll pop! Pssssssssssssst.

Reminds me I need to go for one. But I hate it..they always call me back for f/up but it's always nothing more than dense breasts (to match my head) and I go to the same place all the time so they should see there's nothing there, but they always call me back. Hate it.

27670. arkymalarky - 10/20/2013 3:53:56 PM

I haven't had to go back for follow up since my hysterectomy. Still dread it every year though.

3i3B, I wanted to mention that I deleted my words with friends because it kept pestering me to start games, and I accidentally started 2 or 3, when I was really busy starting my new job. I'm now playing a word game called wordsmith that's on droid and iPhone and it's got tournaments as well as just regular game play. I used to play it back in the day and got away from it when I got busy, but I really like it. the main downside is that it doesn't have enough players. Only about ten thousand have downloaded the game. Of course that affects competition, but it also makes it hard to get a tournament going.
