I am saddened to hear of Pelle's passing. We argued a lot, but I always had a soft spot for him, and I think he had one for me as well. At least, I hope so. He was a good man and so smart. I always think of him this time of year and his orchids.

When did this happen?

27788. Jenerator - 12/5/2013 12:00:50 AM

AND, every single time I pass by a Collin Street Bakery. It was so neat that a family in Sweden ordered their fruit cake from Ennis, TX.

I'm not sure.

27790. judithathome - 12/5/2013 3:03:04 AM

Last year.

Y'all socked in Judith?

27792. judithathome - 12/6/2013 4:50:31 AM

Pretty much...from the latest map I've seen, it looks like it's going AROUND you guys! It looks like it stops just to the north and west of you guys, whatever that little blue patch is is...the sleet and mucky cold are pink and white, and they keep saying "missing this little blue area here...."and pointing to where y'all are.

Hope so...we're freezing our asses off here.

We're under an ice storm warning but it's 31 right now. They're saying early morning.

No school. We are still st 31 with freezing rain and I don't know about our school.

A delayed report of our visit to Mom's Kountry Kitchen in delightful Delight, Arkansas as touted by Arky and Judith. A pleasant breakfast after the previous morning's fare at a Country Kitchen (Against good judgement but it was next to the motel). These places are stuffed with kitchy merchandise, overworked servers, and have a multi-page menu that is hard to decipher. I had to ask which of their options would give me bacon and eggs without frills. No grits or sawmill gravy, etc.

At Mom's the menu said "Breakfast" and listed basic items. No fast food or steam table stuff here and a bottomless coffee cup. Midway the meal out came a generous extra order of toast. The cook had failed to note I asked for whole wheat and corrected the error. We had a toast and jelly day and Kate the wonder dog was appreciative.

Judith's plug for the Reuben was spot on. We hauled a couple home to Texas and enjoyed them after a day's drive through rain. I spiked mine with a bit of Gulden's Spicy Brown Mustard, my go-to condiment of many uses. It even eases leg cramps.

Delight reminds me of my hometown in wayback times. I misread Arky's post and thought it was 4 miles off I-30. Well, no. 17 miles but worth it. A nice drive and we found the cheapest gas of the summer. And in addition to Mom's I think there is a barbecue joint called Pinky's.

Hope so, I want to compare it to one in Bartlesville, Oklahoma called Dink's.

27797. arkymalarky - 12/7/2013 3:54:46 AM

Awwwwww. That pulls at my heart. We live 4 miles off the interstate. Delight is over 20 miles from my house. It's like an integrated Mayberry RFD with WiFi isn't it? I left it and came running back, and it still breaks my heart that the school is gone. My second home.

27798. arkymalarky - 12/7/2013 3:59:08 AM

Pinky's has great burgers. The owner's name is Patty and I don't know why she won't name it Hamburger Patty's.

Oh Delight, so sad, I really enjoyed being there before the school closed. I hope the town survives.

Another December, another foot surgery. Pins and stitches come out in two weeks, so I should be off crutches after that.

omg, the Pats just scored with 31 seconds left on the clock. They haven't played well today at all.

27800. wabbit - 12/8/2013 11:44:46 PM

And Cleveland just missed a 58 yard field goal that would have won the game. Belichick won't be happy today, even with the win.

27801. arkymalarky - 12/9/2013 12:22:07 AM

It has been a football weekend for sure. Arkies are regretting not having hired Auburn's coach when they had the chance.

That time at Delight was so much fun! I enjoy this school but there's no town to speak of. Delight was the whole package deal. The town is struggling, I think.

So off crutches for Christmas? Sounds good! I'm getting myself a new phone for Christmas. The Moto X. Stan and I were going to the beach for our 30th in Feb but really can't go between work and his mother. Besides, what's romance and memories compared to a phone! ;>

Judith? Are y'all making it? Spook said Dallas is still bad.

It's dry and sunny -- beautiful to look at --- but we've been down in the mid 20's for the last three nights. My place is not well insulated and it's a bit drafty, so even with the heat going I get the occasional cold spot or breeze.

27803. judithathome - 12/9/2013 2:31:32 AM

Keoni made a break for it today...to Sam's...and came home with Danish cookies, Belgian chocolates, and 3 pounds of summer sausage.

Just the basics, ma'am.

27804. arkymalarky - 12/9/2013 2:42:42 AM

Yum!

27805. iiibbb - 12/9/2013 9:10:22 PM

My wife and I have been trying to do more to support local businesses.

For the first time I got up the gumption to haggle. They were nice about it but declined. The introvert that I am just felt weird and awful.

They listed the price at $340 ea. I need two, so they offered to knock off 10%.... so $306 ea

Amazon has the same thing for $267 ea.

So I sent the store an email with a link to Amazon and said I wanted to support local, so I pitched the store to sell them to me for $290 ea. I wasn't even asking for a price match because this store does some local goodwill that I support.

They said "No, they can't compete with Amazon."

I dunno. It's hard to justify the $70+ difference.

I was never a good haggler. I hate negotiating prices.

27806. iiibbb - 12/9/2013 9:11:46 PM

At first I wasn't sure if I needed 2 or 4... the store was willing to give a 25% discount for 4.
