28417. arkymalarky - 1/29/2015 3:51:43 AM Haha! 28418. wabbit - 1/29/2015 11:07:52 PM Good one RJB!
We're up and running here, back to work on Wednesday. Supposed to get another 3" tonight and another 3" on Monday. Maybe. 28419. iiibbb - 2/3/2015 9:12:20 PM A mild rant.
I don't wear my wedding ring.
I don't wear any jewelry, or a watch.
My wife got a smart watch yesterday and I admit it's pretty snazzy. I told her as much, but I confided that it wouldn't be any use on me because I can't wear jewelry or watches.
It came up that she doesn't like it that I don't wear my ring.
I have been 100% faithful since I met her - over 10 years. I do my share of housework. I take care of kids. I have taken hits on my career so we could be close to her family. I never make negative comments on the things she wears. I don't ask her to wear heals, fix her hair certain ways, or look a particular way on my behalf. I give her a lot of time to work out, work on her career. I make time so she can take on any side projects she basically wants to (like a book club). I support women's rights. Abortion rights (it is indeed their bodies)
I have read a few articles today and apparently this is a big deal to women (at least the ones prone to write about the subject).
You know what... it kind-of torques me off. When I'm wearing it I sometimes take it off because it gets sweaty, chaffs, or is uncomfortable. My fingers change throughout the day. I don't like it. It's my body. I am 100% committed to her and I show it through deeds every day of our lives.
But she's "hurt" that I don't wear the ring.
grr. 28420. arkymalarky - 2/4/2015 12:46:13 AM Stan has never worn his. He was working in a factory when we got married and he never has worn any jewelry of any sort. it was a battle to get him to let Mose pierce her ears, and he was heartbroken when he found out she got a tattoo.
But if this is your first discussion about it in 10 years, I wouldn't think it's that big a deal to her. 28421. Trillium - 2/4/2015 6:01:54 PM iiibbb, my husband doesn't wear a ring. And although I have one, I don't wear it anymore, either. When the kids were small I always had my hands in soap and water, and I was afraid I'd lose the ring when I kept taking it off. Then I wore the ring on a chain around my neck, but eventually stopped doing that too. Just don't wear much jewelry, especially since I became allergic to my earrings. :(
Agree with Arky that a first discussion in 10 years would probably indicate that it's not that big of a problem. On the other hand, it's GOOD when people talk about what's on their minds. Often there is missing information that needs to come out from someone else. Wearing rings while you work can be dangerous, and it would be a shame to lose it if you took it off. I hope you share your side of the story with her so she can see where you're coming from. 28422. iiibbb - 2/4/2015 9:44:16 PM I wore it for the first year, year and a half. It, and the spare titanium rings we took on our honeymoon, are the only pieces of Jewelry I have.
I just hate things on my hands. Especially being left handed.
I guess she's always thought the main reason I don't wear it is that it was too wide. The guy that made the ring didn't really listen to our design request. We've talked about getting a replacement, but I'm not necessarily convinced that I'd actually wear a different ring. I don't want to spend the money to find out. But she sees it as me not following through on the idea to try a new ring.
I think if I do try again, I'm wearing it on my right hand this time. 28423. judithathome - 2/5/2015 12:27:00 AM Keoni and I have rings that are unusual...I have worn my ring for almost 30 years and he has, too...but he takes it off because of golf and I have stopped wearing mine because I have gained weight and it is too tight now.
I figure that after 30+ years, we are "married" and don't need a ring to express that fact.
I do plan to take my ring to the jeweler and have it stretched (because I don't think I'm going to get any "skinnier" any time soon) but I don't think wearing a ring is going to prove my "fidelity" one way or another...if "others" think that wearing my ring is the only thing that proves we are married...then those people don't know US as a couple. 28424. arkymalarky - 2/8/2015 7:03:48 PM Where is our snow bunny? Wonder if she's going to be able to leave the house before March! 28425. robertjayb - 2/8/2015 8:23:22 PM Me, I'd be denned up...
BOSTON (AP) - Winter-weary New England, which has been battered recently by a series of major snowstorms, braced Sunday for even more. Light flurries fell in the morning, but the "long duration" storm is expected to intensify on Sunday night. The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings for central New York, the western Catskills and much of New England through early Tuesday. 28426. wabbit - 2/8/2015 8:24:58 PM Ended up with 26" from the Jan 28 NEaster, then got another 14" on Feb 1-2, and it's snowing again today. We're expecting 12-14" between now and early Tuesday.
In other news, I have cats again! Felicia, 10+ years old and way fat, was in the shelter for four years. For all her time in the shelter, Felicia is very optimistic, chatty and generous with head butts and love bites and is making herself right at home. Jessica, 7 years old or so, is very withdrawn and depressed, was there for 2+ years. Jessica is going to need time, but she can have all the time she needs. She'll come around, they all do. Shelby is 3-4 years old, was shutting down after about 9 months in the shelter. Shelby is exploring today. She's not sure about me yet, but she is giving me the slow blink. I'm very happy to have them. 28427. arkymalarky - 2/8/2015 8:26:57 PM yay wabbit! It's a good time to have cats with all that snow. 28428. wabbit - 2/8/2015 8:37:24 PM Yep, perfect timing. I picked them up in Fall River where many of the streets are narrow, up and down hills and make for tough navigating. They really don't have room for any more snow. My 2003 Kia Sorento is handling the weather conditions beautifully. I just have to be careful of the jabronies.
Felicia and Shelby are enjoying watching the snow and the birds. They either didn't have a window or one with a view in the shelter rooms. 28429. arkymalarky - 2/8/2015 9:59:08 PM Evidently we will have a snowless winter. 64°f 28430. judithathome - 2/8/2015 10:15:48 PM I just have to be careful of the jabronies.
Welcome to Texas! If there is snow on the ground, everyone switches to instant JABRONIE-MODE...
Congrats on the new family!
28431. arkymalarky - 2/9/2015 1:58:00 AM Picked our first jonquils today. Earliest we ever picked jonquils was a few years ago on January seventh. This is much more normal. 28432. wabbit - 2/9/2015 9:34:21 PM About 12-14" so far and still snowing. 28433. arkymalarky - 2/9/2015 11:24:50 PM Wow. 28434. judithathome - 2/10/2015 1:21:51 AM Okay...when do we come to see the jonquils in bloom in that cool little town? 28435. arkymalarky - 2/10/2015 1:38:54 AM Koch bros are doing a "controlled" burn and I can't breathe even in my house. It's smoky everywhere, at least the last twenty minutes of my commute.
That kind of blanket willful pollution should be illegal. I'm furious. 28436. arkymalarky - 2/10/2015 1:40:58 AM Any time! But not today or tomorrow unless you bring a gas mask!
The jonquil festival is really kind of late for them. Old Washington is really prettiest in early March. Y'all come on!
