Thank you, J@h. Unfortunately, life has made me somewhat expert in grief.

I hear you....but I think MY heart has been somewhat hardened.

What a beautiful and helpful post Thoughtful! Stan read it and it really means a lot people who have been there sharing what helped them. Thank you!

We're at the Colorado cabin processing everything and preparing to dive into a lot of new responsibilities when we get home.

but I think MY heart has been somewhat hardened

Now that is a reason for grieving....

I don't remember who or when, but oh so many years ago, someone posted a pic of this beautiful room on the water I think in Vancouver. Anyway I can find it again without searching through decades of posts?

I'm sure not it, but closest I came on a Google search, & I thought it was so pretty I just posted it.

If you scroll down the lane, every view in that place is water almost.

Down the link

Thanks, Arky, but this was a room you could stay in like a hotel...don't remember if it was a separate cabin as part of a complex, but I think it was...all I remember was how gorgeous it was. I have a friend with $$$$ who is taking the family to the pacific NW and if I could find it, I'd recommend it to her.

Thanks to wabbit for the password. One more rescue of the memory-challenged geezer.

Sympathy for your trials, Arky, Glad you got to Colorado and hope it is a comforting break.

We are late to Wisconsin this year due to minor but time consuming medical stuff. Nothing critical but two hernia repairs within a month makes for a sore belly.

Pleased to be here. 56-degrees this morning.

Later on I'll post about a scheme for an early October meetup to pay off our football wager.

28708. arkymalarky - 8/6/2015 2:41:35 AM

Yay! Can't wait!

Colorado did help, but we didn't get to stay very long.

Sounds like Wisconsin is to you what Colorado is to us. We went from highs in the 70s to highs in the triple digits. Slept with the low fifties with no ac and it was fantastic. I hope when I am finally retired to do like you all and stay out there for months instead of weeks when it's so wretchedly hot in the south.

Arx,

Whereabouts in Colorado? I forget -- and I'm starting to think about cooler climes and cheaper states again.

28710. arkymalarky - 8/9/2015 9:34:46 PM

It's 8800 feet up, about 30 minutes or less from Boulder. You are more than welcome to go up there sometime if you want to. We don't have a bathroom yet, but we will after the summer.

28711. arkymalarky - 8/9/2015 9:36:01 PM

We're in a heat wave right now. 105 degrees at the moment. No sign of rain.

28712. Ms. No - 8/26/2015 7:43:14 PM

Do you have to worry about altitude there?

28713. arkymalarky - 8/26/2015 10:48:35 PM

I don't, but a lot of people do. I've had problems occasionally, but it usually goes away after a few days. I didn't notice any problems this year, but I'm on new medicine for asthma and allergies that seemed to make that a lot better this year. It's so much drier, I breathe more easily because of that.

28714. arkymalarky - 8/29/2015 4:57:26 PM

Spook got really sick up there this time, and he thought it was altitude sickness, but I think it was a stomach virus. He's been there too many times with no problem, but he puked his guts up one day while he was there this summer, all the way from Boulder to the cabin. So now I call him Spuke.

Two weeks ago this morning the University of Portland called Blair and I to tell us that our son, Reid, was dead. He slipped on stairs at his house and cracked his skull, went to bed and never woke up.

Here's his coach's tribute.

28716. arkymalarky - 8/29/2015 7:27:03 PM

Oh my. I don't know what to say. I'm so sorry. Your son was such an impressive person and I have followed your posts about him, and your positive and loving relationship was always so apparent.
