2872. webfeet - 4/6/2005 5:04:33 PM Jenerator -- I forgot to ask you about your bambino? How is he? And marshame? Send her a petite bonjour and my best regards.
Mags- a lot of french expats i've talked to express frustration with the educational system in france and are happier with the flexibility you have in the states in that your academic record at age eleven should not be used to determine your entire future vis a vis admittance to the grandes ecoles or even in deciding your metier. And certainly in starting your own business, as you have done, there must be a lot less red tape. or is that just a cliche?
And I'm not joining the chorus of critics in that direction either, but it just seems to be a synthesis of what i've bee told over the years.
thoughtful -- how is Denny the Dendrobrium? Please tell me he is still alive. Each time I enter this thread, for some peculiar reason, I am always brought back to the very first post instead of the most recent. And that post is a photo of Denny. 2873. thoughtful - 4/6/2005 5:39:35 PM Denny is resting comfortably after a nice blooming spell. Phil has one last blossom hanging on after throwing a couple of bunches. Phoebe is resting. I'm hoping with the increased light of summer, she'll get her act in gear.
Thanks for asking about my 'babies' too! 2874. ronski - 4/6/2005 6:38:16 PM A Cymbidium I have had for a few years, which bloomed again. This is as it was when it first opened. Almost a month later, it doesn't look any different.
2875. alistairConnor - 4/6/2005 6:40:41 PM Splendid! 2876. ronski - 4/6/2005 6:42:11 PM And here is a winter jasmine blooming by the kitchen window, with Bianca pretending not to notice it because it competes with her beauty.
2877. ronski - 4/6/2005 6:42:57 PM alistair,
Thanks. 2878. Magoseph - 4/6/2005 7:16:07 PM Magnificent pictures, Ronski, I was stunned by the last picture--the light on the jasmin and Bianca. 2879. Magoseph - 4/6/2005 7:34:58 PM Web, I have answered post 2872 in the Cafe. 2880. Pretty kitty. 2882. webfeet - 4/6/2005 10:54:04 PM That is a pretty kitty, very demure. I wish my daughter were like that.
Mags, after leaving the convent did your sister find her chemin? I hope so! I know they've made the bac easier, but the system still seems unforgiving-- weeding students at an early age as to whether they are fit for science et mathematique or artes et lettres. It is very elitist, and I know of more than a few French mothers who, like you, are happier raising their children in the states.
By the way, did you read Why French Women Don't get Fat,the new 'bestseller'? Do you eat with all five of your senses at every meal and drink liters and liters of water a day?
According to Mireille Guiliano, the author of the book and a Director at Veuve Clicquot, champagne, chocolate, and good bread are not to be sacrificed in the pursuit of a svelte corp. Out with Atkins, south beach and the anti-carb movement and in with small portions (no surprise there) and savoring food in a very sensual way.
There is a recipe for a magical leek soup that drains you if you drink it straight for two days that I will post if you are interested. I haven't tried it.

2884. webfeet - 4/6/2005 10:58:46 PM woops.
So that maybe doesn't happen again, is anyone able to tell me why I have to scroll down like thousands of posts before I get to the most recent? 2885. judithathome - 4/6/2005 11:51:27 PM There is a recipe for a magical leek soup that drains you if you drink it straight for two days that I will post if you are interested. I'd love to have it...leeks are my faves!
2886. judithathome - 4/6/2005 11:52:23 PM Webbie, do you have your "posts per page" set at a managable number like 20? 2887. Ronski - 4/7/2005 3:36:11 AM The peepers (wood frogs) came out for the first time this season, in force, tonight.
Latest in the season that they've done so since we've lived here, no doubt owing to the cold, snowy March, but there are tons of them, making up for lost time.
"Check me out, baby!" At least, I think that's what the song means.
The windows are open; the peepers will serenade us as we go to sleep.
With the late evening-singing birds earlier, and the owls at full darkness, it has been a delightful night of nature's music.
I love the woods.
2888. Magoseph - 4/7/2005 1:58:27 PM Web, I will answer you in the Café, as soon as I come back from a dentist appointment 2889. Jenerator - 4/7/2005 4:58:52 PM Ha ha ha!
My mom bought that book on the way back from San Diego. She hasn't tried to the leek soup yet but is enjoying the light humor of the author.
My mom's best friend is French and she is the size of a small child - very petite and eats incredibly rich food. She eats it much slower than us Americans. She seems to savor each bite and so I can't help but wonder if Guilano really is on to something.
Anyway, hello webfeet. Marshame and I both send you and your family our best.
My son Dylan is 3 and is growing like crazy. He's close to four feet tall and has the cutest personality. My mom adores him and she is his "Mur mur." My husband and I found out in January that we are expecting another one in Spetember. All of us are hoping for a girl, but another boy would be just fine. I turn 34 tomorrow, and so I feel differently this pregnancy. I am developing all kinds of new aches and pains that I either forgot the first time around, or my bodyis handling it in a new way by stripping all of my bones of their strength and calcium. Ha!
Marshame and I were in Paris last October. Were you with your belle-mere at that time? We could have smuggled in some food for you.
I do hope you'll post more frequently. Your anecdotes are wonderful. 2890. thoughtful - 4/7/2005 5:48:25 PM Hahaha Ronski. Exactly. When I realized that the peepers are all these males hoping to get lucky, well I never sit out on a warm night any more in quite the way.
Birds do it...
Bees do it...
Even educated fleas do it....
and my favorite line from that song
They say in Boston even beans do it! 2891. ronski - 4/7/2005 6:41:40 PM My favorite is:
"Lithuanians and Letts do it; let's do it, let's fall in love."
