That's my Bishop!

Calif. bishop has Robinson's back

SUMMARY: The Episcopal Bishop of California defends Bishop V. Gene Robinson against a snub from the Archbishop of Canterbury and plans to march in S.F. Pride.

Why would anyone want to watch Foulwell's funeral other than to see who among the Republicans are elbowing each other out of the way to get into the front pew? And I can read about that in the NYT.

This is cool

With Bible Map you enter any passage and it will produce a GoogleEarth type map of all place names mentioned.

Baptists gone wild!

RALEIGH, N.C. (ABP) -- Coy Privette, the president of a Christian morality group and a former state legislator and Southern Baptist Convention leader, has been arrested on prostitution-related charges in North Carolina.

Privette, the president of the Christian Action League in North Carolina, was charged July 19 with six counts of aiding and abetting prostitution.

According to arrest documents secured by the Biblical Recorder, Privette's alleged actions took place in a Rowan County hotel between May 4 and June 25. Tiffany Denise Summers, 32, of Salisbury, N.C., was charged with six counts of prostitution in connection with the investigation.

Privette, 74, is a former trustee of the Christian Life Commission (now Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission), the Southern Baptist Convention's moral-watchdog agency. He is a former trustee chair of the SBC's Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C.

Sex scandals have become more prominent in Baptist circles recently, with clergy sex-abuse cases recently shocking churches in Texas, Missouri, Kentucky and Florida. In 2006, Oklahoma pastor Lonnie Latham, a member of the powerful SBC Executive Committee, was arrested for “offering to engage in an act of lewdness” with a male undercover police officer.

The late Jerry Falwell was not one of my favorite people. I believe he was somewhat of a shyster.

Hey Gene!

(thought that sounded better than "Hi Gene"!--Get it?)

28928. Gene Smith - 8/12/2007 3:12:18 AM

Hello there Arkymalarky.

I was a member of the Mote long, long ago. Forgot all about it til I started reading on Salon of our glory days postings in the archieves there and just happened to see the Mote name. Decided to check it out.

Salon went great until they went to paid registeration, then just about everybody left that I used to post with. Your name tells me perhaps you're from Arkansas???? I live in Arkansas. Nice to meet you Arkymalarky.....this is my second post since joining. Maybe when I get time, I'll find something really interesting on here. LoL.

28929. arkymalarky - 8/12/2007 3:23:38 AM

I live in Arkansas.

Really? How neat! We're fairly slow, but steady, and we have good archives and links on the Home page, and super nice folks, if I say so myself. I hope you stick around!

Is There Such A Thing As "Christophobia?"

28931. Jenerator - 8/18/2007 6:09:37 PM

I remember when Islamist and Islamism were debated to. They'r enow part of the vernacular. Personally, I think Christophobia and Chistianophobia are fine, but I'd rather use other words.

28932. judithathome - 8/18/2007 7:52:49 PM

So you think atheists fear Jesus, then?

28933. Jenerator - 8/19/2007 7:32:33 PM

I'm sure it's more about hatred rather than fear, right?

28934. judithathome - 8/19/2007 8:00:18 PM

I don't think so...not in my case or that of others I know who are non-believers. Unlike Christians, we don't have to hate what we don't believe in...we just don't believe in it.

I know you get off on thinking we all hate Jesus but we don't. We don't even hate Christians...we just wish you'd try a little of that "patience and understanding" you keep pushing.

28935. Jenerator - 8/20/2007 4:01:38 AM

Hey - everyone who doesn't agree with homosexuality is labeled a "homophobe" - maybe "patience and understanding" could work both ways...

28936. SnowOwl - 8/20/2007 7:20:48 PM

How can anyone hate something they don't believe in? I'd have to believe in God to hate him.

I don't hate Christians in general. I have plenty of Christian friends. I don't hate Muslims or Jews in general either.

There's a difference in not believing a supernatural being exists, and disagreeing with a particular sexual orientation.

28937. judithathome - 8/20/2007 7:30:27 PM

Besides, WE are not the ones who fear Christ...I'd say Christians fear Christ/God more than those who don't even believe in them. They fear the consequences of NOT living in fear of what an all-knowing God/Christ can do to them if they don't believe and obey the tenets of that belief.

28938. Jenerator - 8/21/2007 12:26:05 AM

What is it with all of you? Do you have some sort of magic charm bracelet? Does it go off whenever I address one of you - letting you know it's time for at least one more of you to chime in and pile on?

I am seriously starting to think this is the case with you and the rest of the hens.
