44864. concerned - 10/31/2012 11:54:00 PM Oh, and 0bama is continuing his rather leisurely tour to other states before he gives the green light to FEMA (or not) to offer them aid, as I type this. 44865. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:13:05 AM Just saying, JAH -
0bama talks the walk, but that's about it.
Romney never 'vowed to stop funding' the EPA, btw. 44866. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:13:37 AM Just saying, JAH -

I don't know what he said about the EPA - probably wants to scale it back. 44867. judithathome - 11/1/2012 12:13:37 AM Seriously, is there ANY position that Mitt Romney won't change if it is politically expedient? Can you name ONE? 44868. judithathome - 11/1/2012 12:16:19 AM I don't know what he said about the EPA - probably wants to scale it back.
Well, unfortunately for you, I do...he said disaster relief should be handed over to the states or even better, privatised.

Can you name ONE? 44870. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:18:21 AM Romney is looking for ways to cut unnecessary Federal expenditures. If you want to look at his record, see how he did in Massachusetts. Did he cut necessary programs there. No. Did he cut waste? Yes, and balanced the budget, too.
I don't see why it's necessary to fabricate a whole lot of scare scenarios about what Romney might do as president. some special interests will get their toes pinched if he's president, no doubt, and they'll squeal like pigs, but as far as a wholesale shutdown of every government agency created since the '70's, I don't think so. 44871. judithathome - 11/1/2012 12:18:48 AM Romney's Pre-Sandy Outlook On FEMA 44872. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:20:23 AM Oooh. Big Bird and Elmo won't get a slice of government gravy to go with all their private funding if Romney is prez.
Guess he won't get the sockpuppet vote, then. 44873. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:25:59 AM Re. 44871 -
Ha ha. That's the same article I opened when I said that Romney had *not* sworn to shut down FEMA. And FEMA hasn't done squat yet regarding Sandy, IAC, as I posted earlier.
The truth is that 0bama has been far more parsimonious regarding doling federal emergency management dollars than even Bush was. That's what counts to me, not mere words.
44874. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:36:17 AM Why would 0bama do something like that when he's such a huge spender in general? Because FEMA funding is periodic and self limiting and doesn't tend to accrue additional power to central government.
And 0bama is the ultimate big government guy. Just recently in 9/11, 0bama conferenced with Leon Panetta less than an hour after the beginning of the Benghazi attack and decided not to spend the money to save the consulate employees' lives. This is because he thought he could cover it all up and blame it on a 'spontaneous' demonstration rather than admit how he opened the door wide to Islamic Fundamentalism in North Africa. 44875. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:44:21 AM excerpt:
And those things we've got to stop doing, because we're borrowing $1.6 trillion more this year than we're taking in. We cannot ...”
King interjected: “Including disaster relief, though?”
Romney replied: “We cannot – we cannot afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral, in my view, for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids, knowing full well that we'll all be dead and gone before it's paid off. It makes no sense at all.”
My takeaway is that this John King interrupted Romney in a middle of a sentence, and Romney completed his sentence without acknowledging the interruption.
Perhaps Romney could have been a little more artful and somehow tacked on an acknowledgment of the exception that applies to certain Federal functions that virtually nobody denies are important such as disaster relief.
44876. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:46:44 AM Romney probably would have had trouble believing that in some peoples' minds, this exchange from a couple weeks ago would somehow have been transformed into a long standing 'vow' to eliminate FEMA. 44877. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:50:04 AM Sorry. The exchange was from last year. 44878. concerned - 11/1/2012 12:52:49 AM I think Romney would like to shrink FEMA in some manner, or make it cost less, but doubt that he would make any effort to 'eliminate' it. 44879. judithathome - 11/1/2012 12:52:53 AM Okay...this is it for me...discussing things with you is a hopless task and I don't need this sort of negativity these days.
44880. concerned - 11/1/2012 1:00:51 AM Little known Benghazi fact (from Andrew Malcolm):
Curiously, Gen. Carter Ham, head of U.S. Africa Command, has been relieved of his post after only a year and a half on the job. According to James S. Robbins in the Washington Times, Ham got the same emails regarding the terrorist attack by the al-Qaida linked Ansar al-Sharia and immediately began organizing a rescue attempt.
Gen. Ham is said to have told the Pentagon he had a rapid response team ready and was told to stand down. Ham then reportedly said screw it, he was going to send help and was promptly told he was being relieved of his command.
So somebody from Washington instantly relieved Gen. Ham of his command when he tried to save the US Benghazi consulate personnel. Where, oh where will the buck stop? We have the best spinmeisters on planet earth approaching warp speed here.
You want to give your expert opinion here Wombat, and how this snafu fits into your concept of a chain of command? *snerk*
What a travesty you Lefties are supporting. 44881. concerned - 11/1/2012 1:01:49 AM Re. 44879 -
Sorry about that. You know what they say about respecting diversity - it should apply to opinions also. 44882. concerned - 11/1/2012 1:09:24 AM I believe 0bama himself gave the stand down command and he probably also personally relieved Gen. Ham of his command. Now this sorry excuse for a president is still trying to avoid responsibility for his actioins.
Throw the bum out next week. We don't need his BS. 44883. concerned - 11/1/2012 1:14:19 AM Btw, if 0bama gets re-elected, his sequestration budget will cut $900 million from FEMA each year.
So maybe we should be more concerned with what 0bama will do to FEMA than Romney.
