A gun isn't a freeze-ray. Cops should stop using it as such. You don't KILL a suspect for running away. You chase him.

45804. iiibbb - 8/16/2014 8:11:01 PM

The cop fucked up. The who.e situation is fucked up.

Cameras on cops like the link above except a switch also attached to the holster That's what I want to see.

Hi Arky. Took me a while to find my password...

These Furguson folks keep making one bad decision after another.

#1 How’d he get from there to there?

#2 Because he ran, the police was still in the truck – cause he was like over the truck

{crosstalk}

#2 But him and the police was both in the truck, then he ran – the police got out and ran after him

{crosstalk}

#2 Then the next thing I know he doubled back toward him cus - the police had his gun drawn already on him –

#1. Oh, the police got his gun

#2 The police kept dumpin on him, and I’m thinking the police kept missing – he like – be like – but he kept coming toward him

{crosstalk}

#2 Police fired shots – the next thing I know – the police was missing

#1 The Police?

#2 The Police shot him

#1 Police?

#2 The next thing I know … I’m thinking … the dude started running … (garbled something about “he took it from him”)

Brown may have bum-rushed the cop.

"Here is a transcript from part of that interview:

He pulled up ahead of them. And then he got a call-in that there was a strong-arm robbery. And, they gave a description. And, he’s looking at them and they got something in their hands and it looks like it could be what, you know those cigars or whatever. So he goes in reverse back to them. Tries to get out of his car. They slam his door shut violently. I think he said Michael did. And, then he opened the car again. He tried to get out. He stands up. And then Michael just bum-rushes him and shoves him back into his car. Punches him in the face and them Darren grabs for his gun. Michael grabbed for the gun. At one point he got the gun entirely turned against his hip. And he shoves it away. And the gun goes off. Well, then Michael takes off and gets to be about 35 feet away. And, Darren’s first protocol is to pursue. So, he stands up and yells, “Freeze!” Michael and his friend turn around. And Michael taunts him… And then all the sudden he just started bum-rushing him. He just started coming at him full speed. And, so he just started shooting. And, he just kept coming."

Well, convenient that the policeman/shooter took off after killing the kid so that the policeman's "facial wounds" couldn't be assessed.

The kids wounds are evident and with one being on TOP of his head angled down, I'm guessing that officer is a fairly good trick shooter...maybe he can join the Wild West Show.

Also, this: . And then he got a call-in that there was a strong-arm robbery.

These cops need to co-ordinate their stories a little better; the police chief said categorically to the nation that the shooter DID NOT have the report of the robbery. In fact, he repeated it twice at a news conference.

I think there is evidence of a LOT of misinformation from both sides. We can't take either sides word for most of this because emotions are running so high...

45811. iiibbb - 8/18/2014 4:46:04 PM

Tamper proof video on all officers. If they have an on off switch because of memory, then there should be a switch on the holster so the camera records if the gun is drawn.

45812. judithathome - 8/18/2014 5:19:46 PM

No problems with that...however, just as with video cameras for antitheft, cameras can be disabled.

And how many videos have we seen of traffic stops, etc. caught by dash cams that show things going awry? Cameras may help but they won't make a difference if one person or the other just snaps.

Tense times out there...all the more reason for better relations between the police and the community. And more equable representation on this particular police force might have gone a long way in cooling things down.

45813. judithathome - 8/18/2014 5:34:31 PM

Just thinking out loud, not long ago I was here by myself when there was a knock at my door and these two burly policemen were standing there...two police cars, two other guys out in my yard looking around the exterior.

The lead guy said "Ma'am, we've had a 911 call from your house; are you okay?" I assured them I was and asked if they were SURE it was from my house because there is another house around the circle with the same house number, not thinking clearly that my phone # would hardly be the same as theirs...

He showed me the phone number...mine...and the address...mine...on the report and said they had to come in and look around. Which they did, looking in every room and closet, etc. I was, despite knowing there was nothing amiss, terrified and shaking like a wet noodle. Then I thought that detail made me look guilty...of what, my irrational mind had no clue...and I had to REALLY hold it together until they left.

Now in one regard, I was glad to have "police protection" but in another, I was scared shitless by this invasion of my home. Especially since I had done nothing to set it in motion.

The big guy did explain to me that sometimes, leaving a cordless phone off the cradle can cause it to auto dial 911.

Probably not when you actually NEED it to but good know, regardless.

Anyhow, maybe it's my age...I was raised to respect but also, to practically FEAR the police...and when you have them come into your home like that and poke around, it DOES cause an automatic reaction.

Just from that interaction alone, I am convinced I should never commit a crime...I would cave and confess immediately!

45814. iiibbb - 8/18/2014 7:56:54 PM

Ihave the same reaction with police. On the one hand i want to cooperate, on the other they are not my friends and can royally screw up somebody's life with little consequence to them individually.

Doesn't matter if you're guilty or innocent, it can take a long time and a lot of money to fix a bad cop experience. There are so many laws on the books that most people could be arrested for something if a cop had a mind to.

45815. judithathome - 8/18/2014 9:55:56 PM

Well, I have to admit I was probably batshit "concerned" over the fact that in my kitchen, on top of my microwave, I had a spice jar full of pot.

45816. iiibbb - 8/19/2014 2:22:13 PM

case in point...

... the come to "save" you from a home invasion and you'd wind up arrested.

Cops are not anyone's friend.

45817. judithathome - 8/19/2014 6:25:09 PM

Well, I wouldn't say that...that's the same blanket statement that came from those jerks in Ferguson last night who threw rocks at Chris Hayes...the least intimidating of any newsperson on MSNBC...while he was live on air.

These "brave" souls with their faces covered yelled at him to "tell the truth"...they could neither hear what he was saying nor know what he had reported in the past because I doubt they've ever watched him on MSNBC...if they had, they would know he is sympathetic to them AND the case. I'd be willing to bet that didn't even know what network he was with...

Their reaction last night is sort of like yours: blanket assumption. Some reporters are bad, ALL reporters are bad...some cops are not your friend, ALL cops are not your friend.

45818. iiibbb - 8/19/2014 10:22:15 PM

I should rephrase... a cop is your friend in that they will help you... but a cop is not your friend if they notice something out of the ordinary (illegal). They are generally not going to ignore that.

It can get ugly fast, and it doesn't even matter if you ultimately get off... the arrest and processing is bad enough.

As a specific... I had a small time pot dealer who lived next door to me in college. He was an okay guy and I'm not against pot. However, there was a guy who was hanging around their apartment a lot... one day a detective came by asking questions. I answered the questions... I even visited her in her office to answer some questions.

I told my neighbor that the day she starts asking direct questions I'm going to give direct answers whether it meant throwing them all under the bus or not. I've never done drugs... had no interest in them... wasn't going down for it.

Watching the interview Jon Stewart did with Bill Clinton last night...god, how I wish he were still President.

BREAKING NEWS: Eric Holder to step down as Attorney General...Republicans rejoice and plan to block every name put forward to take his place.

We've seen that the country can function without a working Congress; now we'll see how it can do with no AG.
