45830. judithathome - 10/26/2014 8:34:20 PM I have heard Rob Portman's name bandied about as Presidential material for the Republican Party and hadn't realized the man was completely delusional until this morning...Chuck Todd just asked him what the difference will be if Republicans win the majority in the Senate in one week.
The man said...with a straight face..."Getting things done."
This, from a Republican...the party that has blocked every single "thing" of significance that came before Congress since January 2008.
Oh, I do believe they will get things done...like tabling immigration completely...ditto equal pay for equal work. And the minimum wage...if they had their way, they'd LOWER it...and ObamaCare will be gutted...and they WILL give the people who put them in office tax breaks but the voting public won't be part of that little bonus...because the percentage with all the money are the ones who put them into office, not the grubbing little guy who schlepped to the voting booth...
Also, after they get all the votes they need next week, they will get serious about changing voting rules to tighten them up so that even more people will be denied a vote in the NEXT election...let's see...what election will THAT ONE be for? Oh right....the next President.
And then, on to the Supremes...
So I hope everyone is comfortable in RepublicanWorld...and I hope you have enough money to live through it. 45831. judithathome - 11/2/2014 9:05:49 PM Michael Grimm, the Republican who threatened to toss a reporter off a balcony and "break him like a little boy" and who has a federal indictment for fraud against him....he is leading in the polls by 19 points.
That's almost as many points as there are charges in his federal indictment...
You can say this is just an example of how BAD his Democratic opponent is but I think it is an example of how low the Republicans will stoop when it comes to qualifiers for candidacy. They will accept ANYONE....as long as they hate Obama and can string 5 words together. 45832. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 5:02:27 AM I have a love hate relationship with election night. Right now it's mostly hate. 45833. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 5:54:32 AM The woman I referenced earlier in that article won. This is the most pathetic race ever in Arkansas. 45834. iiibbb - 11/5/2014 1:37:01 PM Garbage in garbage out garbage in garbage out. 45835. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 4:27:41 PM nonono. that attitude is toxic. if you don't truly believe one is better than another there is no reason to vote. in ar I know or have at least met a lot of the people I saw on the ballot (not the senators). that is a false and IMO a dangerous premise. 45836. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 4:32:41 PM this is how stupidly arkies voted: they gave legislative COMMITTEES power to veto rules authorized by executive branch agencies in a CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.
I'm so glad I own a house in CO. I may be needing it. 45837. iiibbb - 11/5/2014 4:35:34 PM There is a reason to vote. Some of that garbage is toxic.
But I've little faith in the system right now to make coherent choices that benefit the country. 45838. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 4:35:36 PM "an Amendment Empowering the General Assembly to Provide for Legislative Committee Review and Approval of State Agencies' Administrative Rules." 45839. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 4:36:28 PM I agree. and it's going to get worse. much worse. 45840. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 4:37:28 PM I'm getting a tooth pulled today. fits my mood. 45841. iiibbb - 11/5/2014 4:37:42 PM I read a news blog today that said a poll showed that 29% of Louisiana Republicans blame Obama for the poor federal response to Katrina in 2005. Only 28% of LA republicans blame Bush.
As long these kind of people have meaningful sway in who makes policy.... it's important to vote.
But all politicians stink of somebody else's money. 45842. arkymalarky - 11/5/2014 4:56:45 PM I don't agree. on the local level elections have consequences and good people run. in fact, locally we had good results. state level up was bad partly because of the influence of outside money. some states manage to elect good, responsible representation and leadership. if the rw manages more disenfranchisement it will be grim. and they will. 45843. judithathome - 11/5/2014 8:15:02 PM Our new Governor, Gregg Abbott, in his acceptance speech last night introduced his wife as "the very first Hispanic First Lady of Texas"....I'm sure that fact was a shocker to many in this state...this campaign, he brought her out AND had her mother do an ad for him in Spanish...first time ANYONE outside Austin knew his wife was Hispanic. 45844. judithathome - 11/5/2014 8:16:54 PM That is the sort of crap we can expect from the Republicans...use 'em when it's convenient; ignore 'em otherwise.
I would be willing to bet one of his first moves as Governor is to make a show of tightening up the border. 45845. arkymalarky - 11/6/2014 5:43:28 PM Arkansas is about to be in really deep doodoo. They may very well roll back their unique way of implementing Obamacare, which dramatically increased our percentages who had health insurance, which means that it will be taken away from thousands of people. They're also talking about going back to consolidating schools ASAP. We met with Asa Hutchinson way back when, and that didn't seem to be a priority of his, but now that he's governor I think he'll move on it pretty quickly. Poor folks had best be glad they gave themselves a tiny raise. They're going to need it. Everything from education to health insurance to anything else the state can put its mitts on to take away from poor people in a very poor state is going to come under attack. 45846. judithathome - 11/6/2014 8:39:06 PM Well, we have you beat in the healthcare take-back...they can't take away that which they never gave in the fist place. 45847. judithathome - 11/6/2014 8:39:30 PM Here in Texas, I mean. 45848. arkymalarky - 11/7/2014 12:07:03 AM yes, tx is the worst in the nation and was before the aca. but I will hate to see people here get it taken after only having it a little while. it would be a shitty thing to do. ar had actually moved up to one of the best levels of insured in the south. 45849. iiibbb - 11/7/2014 5:45:26 PM fuckers
