Well, I guess you aren't very thrilled with your Senator, Arky.

I was shocked the letter to Iran wasn't drafted by an idiot from Texas....thanks for taking the heat off the nutbags in Texas, Tom Cotton!

He looks just like Linguini in Ratatouille.

When we moved to Arkansas when I was in 7th grade, leaing politicians were Dale Bumpers, David Pryor, Bill Clinton, William Fulbright, Wilbur Mills.

I'm telling you, it's as bad as I've ever seen it since I've lived here. there's a lot going on that I don't feel like posting it out here, but you should see the list of proposed bills for this session. The ones that passed are bad enough, but so many R of that are just unbelievable. And Tom cotton is representative of the whole situation in Arkansas, and the state legislators are trying to pass a law that will allow him to run for president while he sits in the Senate.

He'll ride that "Iraqi veteran" tag to the very end, I'd imagine.

I know it's depressing to talk about but is Arkansas pushing for that ALEC bill like Alabama (blessedly!) dumped this week: for businesses to deny service to anyone they deem "religiously" unfit...gays, different racial make-up, etc. They are claiming "religious freedom" must be upheld.

Funniest outcome of bringing that bill forward: Alabaman Wiccans sent a letter to the legislature thanking them for upholding THEIR religious freedoms! I'm certain the irony was lost on those rubes in the capitol...

Good call on "Linguini"...I'm stealing it!

it's very long but you ought to read the call to action response to the bill that got out of the state House committee the other day. I posted in the ed thread. It would completely dismantle AR's public education structure. The only thing I've seen approaching it is something Rachel Maddow covered a few months ago, but that was at the city level, this is for the whole state.

there's way more. More than I can talk about without spending a few hours. Just looking at the proposed bills is beyond depressing. what's so hard to believe is that although it was nothing dramatic on either side, things were so normal before January 20th.

45918. judithathome - 3/14/2015 10:05:08 PM

I am deadly serious about this: you should write to Rachel Maddow...you have an insight to the state government that few have, having dealt with so many incarnations of it...I mean this...it's the sort of thing she loves to tackle!

45919. arkymalarky - 3/14/2015 10:54:51 PM

thank you! I don't know, when all this happened years ago I went straight to the Gates Foundation and the Harvard ed department, while my partner started at the local level and we met in the middle with a national rural organization that standard out of DC which hired us as consultants for 3 or 4 years while we established a state wide organization. Now I've been out of it so long, I don't know where to go.I don't care for the general direction of the original group, so I don't really want to go back to working with them. But youre so right about Rachel Maddow. She's fantastic about picking up the importance of state and local issues like that. I might just do that. Surely can't hurt. But man, I dread getting involved again right now. After I retired I wouldn't mind, but it has a way of sucking up every minute.

Thank you, Mike Pence...look what you have done!

Wiccans Thank Mike Pence For His Support!

45921. judithathome - 4/3/2015 9:09:43 PM

Arky, you must be SOOOO proud of Tom Cotton...he seems to have made his way into "Official Mouthpiece for the Republican Party" status on less than 3 months on the job!

45922. judithathome - 4/3/2015 9:10:13 PM

on=in

45923. arkymalarky - 4/3/2015 11:29:40 PM

My only hope is maybe that means he'll get to the status of Ted Cruz with the other senators even faster.

45924. arkymalarky - 4/4/2015 2:07:13 AM

okay, Chris Matthews is back in my favor. He just ripped into Ron Christie in a way that makes me smile.

45925. iiibbb - 4/12/2015 3:57:50 PM

How far the GOP has fallen.

45926. Ms. No - 4/12/2015 4:48:32 PM

I loved this comment below it:

Mary Grace Dembeck: God, but our POTUS is sooooo INTELLIGENT! He's calm and reasonable, even when facing such hackneyed people as McCain and McConnell! That's why I call OUR POTUS --->Barack WHO'S SANE Obama. I sure am gonna miss him when his term is over!

45927. arkymalarky - 4/13/2015 3:51:22 AM

Great video jumping in by Hillary. She has my enthusiastic support after seeing it. She just had my support before.

45928. thoughtful - 4/13/2015 1:11:17 PM

Elizabeth Warren for President...she could be our next Teddy Roosevelt and bust all the crony capitalism that is destroying our form of government.

45929. arkymalarky - 4/13/2015 3:58:18 PM

If she were running, I agree! How have you been Thoughtful?

45930. judithathome - 4/13/2015 9:13:22 PM

No way Warren is going to agree to run...she has ZIP foreign policy experience and knows it...she can do far more as Secretary of Commerce.

45931. thoughtful - 4/13/2015 10:07:11 PM

Zero foreign policy experience didn't stop W or Reagan...

45932. arkymalarky - 4/13/2015 10:09:33 PM

No, but she said no repeatedly, & I believe her.

45933. thoughtful - 4/15/2015 12:03:40 PM

Can't hurt to ask...
