46407. Ms. No - 5/5/2016 8:31:53 PM Well, that depends on your definition, I suppose. They've always been racist, misogynist, hate-mongers, only now it appears they can publicly admit it and be praised for taking steps to make America great again.
(Before anyone thinks me too, too biased, the left wing of the Dems are classist, self-righteous reactionaries who spread their fair share of hate and nincompoopery as well.) 46408. judithathome - 5/6/2016 8:10:48 PM Any bidders for this ticket?
Hopefully, not Kasich.
46409. judithathome - 5/6/2016 8:11:29 PM ...meaning, I would hope he has more integrity than to accept something like that. 46410. robertjayb - 5/17/2016 11:14:26 PM Too bad...
WASHINGTON (AP) - Under pressure from Democratic Party leaders to denounce ugly violence by his supporters, Sen. Bernie Sanders instead struck back with a defiant statement Tuesday that dismissed complaints from Nevada Democrats as "nonsense" and asserted that his backers were not being treated with "fairness and respect." It followed chaos at the Nevada Democratic Party Saturday night, where Sanders' supporters threw chairs, shouted down speakers and harassed the state party chair with death threats. Gravely alarmed, Democrats pressed Sanders to forcefully denounce it...
Early on I made a small contribution to Sanders, never thinking he would be the nominee but believing he would emphasize issues that might go unremarked. He has done that. Good work, Bernie. Now he should calm down and calm the thuggish element among his supporters. Perhaps forgive them for they know not what they do.
This recent letter to the Houston Chronicle is on point. From Kati in Cypress:
"I am tired of Bernie Sanders whining about superdelegates not representing the party faithful. They are the party faithful! Many of them are elected officials: governors, mayors, senators, congressmen, congresswomen, state elected officials, city council members, etc. These people have been working, often for years, in support of Democratic principles,
The superdelegates have raised funds for Democratic candidates, for office expenses and overall party expenses often from their own pockets. They have put in countless hours to make the wheels of success go around.
Bernie, however, is not a Democrat. He has always run as an independent. It is beyond time for Bernie to make peace with Hillary, give his money to down-ballot candidates and help unify the Democratic Party that gave him the opportunity to make his case."
Perhaps Bernie should back off and reclaim his independent status. Then he and his could have the sort of fairness and respect they desire. 46411. robertjayb - 5/17/2016 11:40:47 PM http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/05/is-the-democratic-primary-really-rigged/483168/ 46412. judithathome - 5/18/2016 12:02:35 AM I was never in favor of Bernie Sanders from the get go...he chose to run on a party ticket he had never supported in the past and that was enough for me...now it has gone to his head and he is supporting thugs who resort to TRUMP-style tactics when they think things are not going their way...his milquetoast response to their actions have completely torn it for me.
Bye, Bernie...yer burnt! 46413. arkymalarky - 5/19/2016 1:23:51 AM Mark Halperin is such a twit. And Nader is Chris Matthews' hero? Seriously? MSNBC's vacuous Trump-worship is about to lose me. 46414. arkymalarky - 5/21/2016 3:49:02 AM Attempting to hyper-analyze and parse Trump's idiotic repetitive statements is like trying to interpret your dog's barks. The pundits' attempts to do so are just making them sound completely stupid. 46415. arkymalarky - 5/21/2016 3:51:52 AM Chris Matthews et al are acting like what Trump says is so cryptic and has some kind of profound meaning that they just can't quite manage to get in order to see the complexity of his ideas and policy plans. Barf. 46416. arkymalarky - 5/24/2016 11:42:27 PM Still can't stand Mark Halperin. And the Wu Tang fanboi act is lame. 46417. winstonsmith - 6/29/2016 4:58:26 AM I want our $7M back from the Benghazi investigation. 46418. arkymalarky - 6/29/2016 9:27:54 PM I'll let them keep it if a Dem majority takes control in January.
I really hope this site Manages to limp along for the election season. 46419. Ms. No - 7/3/2016 7:47:56 PM What I'd really like is for us to hear back from Alistair so that we can move the site to our own server so that when connectivity issues happen, we can fix them right away. 46420. winstonsmith - 7/4/2016 6:06:23 AM I am willing to donate to get the site hosted on a more stable platform. 46421. arkymalarky - 7/4/2016 6:36:53 PM Agreed!!! 46422. Ms. No - 7/4/2016 7:57:21 PM It's not a money thing --- I've got a server provider already that I've kept even though I don't make much use of it. There's plenty of room to move the Mote there, and they're 24/7 available if anything should happen. In the 15 years I've had it, I think I've been down fewer than 10 times.
As soon as we can get in touch with Alistair, we can move the Mote. 46423. wabbit - 7/4/2016 11:28:35 PM Only adults can get married in Virginia, according to a new law replacing policies that made it possible for a girl 13 or younger to marry if she had parental consent and was pregnant.
The law, which took effect Friday, sets the minimum marriage age at 18, or 16 if a child is emancipated by court order. It takes parents and pregnancy out of the equation...
Ok, really? How long did it take to get this passed in VA? Jeez Louise.
46424. Trillium - 7/5/2016 1:18:10 AM "Why 13 year olds can no longer marry in Virginia"
Interesting article. "The change is aimed at curbing forced marriage, human trafficking and statutory rape disguised as marriage. Activists say the previous law created a “fast-track to child marriages” for abusers who could evade investigation by child-welfare officials by simply marrying their victims.
"Nearly 4,500 children under age 18 were married in Virginia from 2004 to 2013, according to data from the state’s Department of Health. That includes more than 200 children age 15 or younger."
Anatomy/psychology texts bring out the fact that the bone structures of females do not mature until around age 18, and childbearing before maturity will result in stunting (and possibly more hazardous childbirth from pelvis being too narrow). Sex trafficking of children and early adolescents is a whole different set of problems. Makes sense that they changed the law, although the targets will probably just move out of state/out of country to where this is still legal.
While I'm not in favor of 16-year-old pregnancies and marriages, it's hard to tell a 16-year-old anything if she's hardheaded 46425. winstonsmith - 7/5/2016 5:34:55 PM And just like that, the email investigation is over with no charges. 46426. judithathome - 7/5/2016 8:04:12 PM Oh, it's not over in Trumpworld...just wait!
