Every little boy's dream come true!
5005. iiibbb - 9/9/2013 8:01:23 PM Thoughful... the race for the millinial occluded the fact I did use it. For 2 weeks with much saturation. It did some... even a lot... but it didn't get rid of all of the smell. Luckily, the vinegar wash did seal the deal. 5006. judithathome - 9/9/2013 9:12:26 PM How many posts per page do you view? I do 20 at a time...your posts about the cat-astrophe showed on screen for a long time, 3i3b.
That Tonka Tree is really cool..."art" can happen anywhere. 5007. judithathome - 9/12/2013 5:37:30 AM Had the best escargot tonight I've had in ages! 5008. alistairconnor - 9/13/2013 3:08:42 PM Hello... Summer appears to be over. Oh well, it looks like it'll be warm tomorrow in Avignon -- I'm moving my daughter back down there for her third year at university. I met her Finnish boyfriend during the summer -- that was interesting, we had barely met then she took off to Italy with her girlfriends (in my van!) having neglected to mention that he would be staying on a couple more days at my place. But that was fine -- he's actually quite talkative, for a Finn, and we get on well.
Oh and for Finnish humour, I warmly recommend this, a cartoonist. I laughed a lot, perhaps I should see a psychiatrist. 5009. alistairconnor - 9/13/2013 3:13:46 PM Bibiche, if you're in Aix this weekend, beware! If you see a younger version of me, that would be my nephew, Pete. He's better-looking and more self-assured than I was at twenty... (that's not saying much, actually). And he has looked disturbingly like me ever since he was three.
Also, I bought some wine for you a couple of weeks ago in Croatia. I was looking for winemakers in Dalmatia, for reasons of nostalgia -- the winemakers in west Auckland where I grew up were all Dalmations (wine was terrible, actually) and I found a domain called... Bibich. So if you're going anywhere near Lyon... get in touch! And we can drink some. 5010. iiibbb - 9/13/2013 6:37:52 PM Alistair... thanks very much for that link... I love it.
5011. Trillium - 9/14/2013 12:40:38 AM Funny Finns! 5012. Ms. No - 9/15/2013 2:49:51 AM I am currently surrounded by and being annoyed by people ostensibly living the good life.
It is my own fault, but I am nonetheless annoyed.
In an effort to escape my tiny apartment, I packed up my laptop and a bunch of writings that I needed to type up and headed to a local coffee house. Little did I know that there is a downtown artist studio walking tour going on. It includes not only communal studio spaces, but also such informal galleries as coffee houses and bistros.
There are currently about thirty hipsters and wannabe hipsters loitering around me talking to each other and not really looking at the art. The coffee house is sort of nouveau-industrial in design with concrete floors and high ceilings with exposed duct-work.
So they echo.
Endlessly.
In high-pitched, oh-so-enthusiastic voices.
And I have so far not typed a single page except to post here.
The artist --- I assume he's the artist since he was here before the crowd showed up and he's looking a bit anxious --- has beautiful, curly, yellow hair. You rarely see this shade in nature except on very young children. He looks vaguely familiar to me, but after living downtown for so many years, nearly everyone down here does. I am quite certain, however, that I have never slept with him, and so I don't have to pretend to be interested in what is going on.
In case you are wondering, yes, I am completely aware that I am being a crusty curmudgeon. These people are enjoying themselves, supporting the arts --- whether or not they actually intend to purchase anything --- and if what I really wanted to was to work in quiet, I should have stayed home.
Ah, the mid-life crisis. I'm coming to know it well. 5013. arkymalarky - 9/15/2013 5:13:58 AM people more interested in being heard and seen than anything else maybe? those types bug me no end , and unfortunately like me they enjoy coffee shops.
5014. judithathome - 9/15/2013 5:25:01 AM We used to go to Gallery Night...it was started decades ago and we enjoyed it because it was just the arts community and a few people who were curious ABOUT the arts community.
But we've stopped going because it's become a trendy thing to got to and "be seen" going to. You can hardly move through the galleries or get far enough back to actually view the art works with a decent perspective.
People don't give a crap about the art, they just want to be seen at the galleries and scoop up the free food and drinks. 5015. webfeet - 9/15/2013 10:01:34 PM Trop tard, mon ami. Vacances has to end sometime and we are now back in nyc. But that is a lovely geste and perhaps next year we can drink the Dalmatian wine--if it is still good a year from now. This year, we toured Chateau Lacoste, a domaine that has been turned into a chic cultural center designed by Jean Nouvel and a list of intl architects whose futuristic concepts bring the vignoble into relief. Nouvel designed these super high-tech barrels that reduce the sulfate; the good news is that you could probably drink three bottles and not get the slightest headache! Im sure you've heard the buzz. Why I mention it is that we tried Les Pentes Douces, a creamy white, that haunts me still! Do you know it? Im spoiled now. For good.
And it's a pity I left before the arrival of your youthful doppel-ganger, Pete, who is probably enjoying les jolie filles d'Aix. On connais la chanson... 5016. webfeet - 9/15/2013 10:04:26 PM Art galleries are trendy?? Hang on. My jaw just dropped to the floor. Who let the philistines on?
