Here is the command (With an extra space so it will display, not execute)
< img src="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_2_jk.jpg" width="300">

628. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:19:50 PM

Alternatively, if you want people to see the entire phote, but don't want to mess up the thread, use the following command (removing the two extra spaces):
< A HREF="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_2_jk.jpg" Target="new">< IMG SRC="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_2_jk.jpg"WIDTH=150>

(Click on image to see full-size)

Is this (with the space) what I had originally linked?

< img src="http://earthstation1.simplenet.com/wwiipics/Hitler_Gestures_4_jk.jpg" target="new">

No
Note gestures_2 versus gestures_4

Sorry about that, I went back to the website and clicked on a different photo. Let me see if I can do it the right way --

Thank you Dusty! Is width 300, generally speaking, the desired size for the Mote?

633. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:30:21 PM

And we need to change the Html hints page.

I guess that adding target="new" to an IMG tag doesn't hurt, but it doesn't do anything, so is misleading.

CalGal? Can you do this sometime?

634. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:33:41 PM

The size might depend on the nature of the picture, but treat 425 as an upper bound. A width of 425 just barely fits in the existing margins. But for some pictures, that is more than enough. In your case, where you might want to make a graphic point, you might want to go to the max, although, as I noted, you can go even larger by using the command to create a new window.

I generally use 300 as the maximum size I'll display in the Home and Garden thread, but on some occasions, go a big larger.

Thanks again. What are the RoE regarding the nature of pictures? Common sense? I was tempted to link a picture of a Nazi atrocity, to make my point clearer to Asshole5, but didn't do so, because it is disturbing. Your opinions?

636. Dusty - 11/16/1999 9:43:35 PM

BTW, the Webmonkey link was giving me an error, so I changed it. I'm not sure where it was originally directed, but it now goes to the HTML basics page. If this is not the page people want, let me know.

I almost never visit the Spirituality thread, but I was just in there. I think you made a good decision.

I don't think we have formal rules on how to use pictures, but common sense sounds like a great default.

I would like to post this picture in the Spiritual Issues thread, but am not sure how to because the address doesn't have a jpg on it. I looked under view and searched for it, but wasn't able to find what I was looking for. What do I do now?

< img src="http://fcit.coedu.usf.edu/holocaust/gallery5/19526.htm" target"new" width="300">

Go to your site, then right-click on the image. This will open a box with a list of options. The bottom one is properties. Click on properties. This will open another box with various items, including one labeled Address (URL). Triple-click on the actual address. (Left button). This should highlight the entire address. (If it doesn't, select the entire address in the usual way, highlighting it with the left mouse button held down.) Then right-click again, to bring up a list of options, one of which is copy. Select copy, which will copy the address into the clipboard.

Now create the IMG command and paste the address into the correct place within the command.

Please note that the target="new" is not needed in an IMG command. But I urge people to use a width=xxx, where xxx is no greater than 425, so it doesn't mess up the margins.

This sounds like a mouthful, but if you actually do it, you will find that it is fairly natural, and easy to do.

Good luck.
