The colt's victory means each of the 2013 Triple Crown races were won by different horses. Mike Smith spurred Palace Malice to victory, keeping his tiring horse ahead of the field at the 1.5-mile track, longest of the three thoroughbred racing classics. Oxbow, the Preakness Stakes winner, finished second. Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner, was third.
When I saw the opening fractions, I was sure Oxbow would fold, like Frac Daddy and Freedom Child did. That he managed to get second was amazing. You can see his legs must have felt like lead, but he's a game horse and kept moving. Same with Palace Malice. They went with Frac Daddy and Freedom Child and managed to keep going. The favorite Orb couldn't catch them and finished third, followed by Incognito, Revolutionary and Unlimited Budget.

Then the first race on Friday, in light winds, was going very well for NZ... a thousand metres in front... then they timed out : the race has to be finished in 40 minutes, and they were still three minutes from the line by then.
The second race yesterday was a beauty, and was won comprehensively by Oracle.
So the match stands at Team NZ _ - 2 Oracle. And it's still match point : Oracle need seven wins. NZ need one...
