Started couch to 5k today. I think I prefer couch.

Maybe it's me but I have no idea what that means, Arky!

Saw my surgeon today and she gave me some meds to combat nausea AND some anti-anxity meds to take before we leave on the drive to Arky's...usually, I take along a jug of wine and drink all the way to Arkansas...ha!

It's something that has just developed in the past few years...I just get hyper-apprehensive riding in the car. Keoni is an excellent driver so I don't really understand it....

My doc also told me to skip my anti-cancer stuff while I'm on the trip....since I will probably be drinking that weekend.

I will be more than happy to do that because that stuff IS making me sickish. I guess I just need to get used to it.

We'll take good care of you Judith! Can't wait until you get here!

Couch to 5k is a running app for weenies. It's on my iphone. You alternate walking and running in increments over 6 to 9 weeks, depending on the app. You listen to your music and a "coach" tells you when to run, walk, etc, and gps plots your route and progress. My cousin, who is my age, got me interested when she visited over Christmas. She looked great, but I hadn't seen her in so long I didn't know she'd gained a lot of weight, and with diet and exercise she lost 70 pounds. Which is good, since she's a 53 year old woman with a 10 year old son and he has type one diabetes.

7760. arkymalarky - 6/12/2012 1:23:14 AM

Also, Mose and her husband are training for marathons. He ran 1/2 last year and that's what she's working on this year. If his PhD work allows he wants to do a full this time. Our agri teacher did a full this year. I want to at least give running a 5k a shot.

7761. arkymalarky - 6/12/2012 1:28:23 AM

And I relate about riding. The only thing worse for me is driving. I'm a basket case on the two day trip to and from CO. And I hate flying too. So I just have to be miserable for a while to get where I want to go.

7762. judithathome - 6/12/2012 3:21:00 PM

If these things work for me, I can leave you a couple!

7763. msgreer - 6/13/2012 2:48:05 AM

It sounds like a good time to be in Arkansas. Have a safe trip, Judith..and as for Cal Gal..I am leaving that one alone. Consider my own insecurities when I wrote you back..maybe I should be looking at myself and not at your words. Never to late to learn something new.

Greaet news to share. I had my three month blood draw yesterday, and again every single bit of it is perfect. This is how it has been from day 1. There is a marker for lymphoma, LDH. At the moment I can't even give you the info on this specific marker but I will get back to you..Mine is 463, which means that there is no sight of lymphoma in my body. I am happy and but feel a bit foolish for not being able to give all the info on LDH at this moment. It's a good deal all around to have all the lab work they did on me to be just fine and within normal ranges.

7765. msgreer - 6/30/2012 6:58:27 PM

It is particularly common to have an elevated LDH level if your cancer is a lymphoma. Lymphoma cells have a high rate of "turnover," meaning, cells die and new cancer cells replace them at a fast rate. Lymphomas release a lot of LDH during this process. In the case of lymphoma, LDH can be released both by lymphoma cells and by cells that surround the growing cancer.

For some cancer types, your LDH level can tell how advanced a cancer is. This is true for lymphoma.

For many cancers, LDH can be used to check how well you responded to chemotherapy or another treatment.

Your doctor must wait to check your LDH until a round of treatment is complete, so it is no longer actively killing cancer cells.

Then, measuring the LDH can give your doctor some idea how much cancer might be left in your body. For some cancers, a low LDH can tell your doctor you are in remission. A high LDH might tell your doctor that you need additional treatment for your cancer.

LDH is durectly related to glucose production and during use with exercise. Cancer loves sugar and fat cells. I needed quotes around the above post, it is not my words.

Some of the links say 333 is normal on the high side but others have higher numbers. What I do know is if Johns Hopkins is happy about this lab work, I am too. I believe I said before that what I have is more of a chronic disease, which one day could come back and I would go back for a number of infusions. The type of lymphoma I have, very slow growing and specifically related to B cells...can be treated with a monoclonal antibody such as Rituxan. This type of chemo doesn't kill you first and then see if your body can come back for a full and meaningful life.

Information on the AMAS test. Now I have to go back to see who asked for this.

7767. msgreer - 6/30/2012 7:07:13 PM

Judith,
I have been out of town for somme time. How are you doing?
I think of you so often...

7768. arkymalarky - 6/30/2012 7:47:49 PM

Judith looks fantastic and we had a wonderful weekend! One of the best, imo. Hopefully she'll pop in and share, but I had to post how great she looks, and she was my good luck charm shopping for clothes!

7769. arkymalarky - 6/30/2012 7:50:08 PM

Yay for your results Msgreer!!

7770. wabbit - 7/1/2012 12:37:45 AM

Yea Ms. Greer!

Sounds like a fun weekend Arky - find any cool chandeliers?

I've been hobbling around on a broken foot for the last few weeks. Allow me to highly recommend those air cast boots, they are wonderful. With my hands/wrists/elbows being what they are, crutches are very difficult for me. The boot was a godsend.

7771. arkymalarky - 7/1/2012 1:05:17 AM

Oh no! How much longer will you be on it?

Wrt chandeliers, I'll just be happy to see the one I got last year hung up.

7772. wabbit - 7/1/2012 2:17:26 AM

I've got this week off from work, so I'll wear the ugly/comfy shoes and see how it feels. It's been five weeks, maybe six, I can put my weight on it now - but I wouldn't want to do a lot of walking on it yet. Just one of those things, one step down coming out of a door and *snap*.

7773. arkymalarky - 7/1/2012 3:13:40 AM

Ouch. Sounds really painful.

7774. msgreer - 7/1/2012 5:29:10 AM

wabbit, Hello to you too. Ouch is right. You're in NY and I go to Manomet, MA and spend six monnths a year with my daughter. I love it. My back does not and it is getting harder and harder to set up a home and then take it down. It is a huge old typical NE home..lovely as it is right on the water. It truly is a beach house.
You have my email nurseisin@yahoo.com but just in case you did not here it is..write me so I can get in touch with you.

7775. msgreer - 7/1/2012 5:33:01 AM

Arky
Good to hear Judith looking and doing so well. Cancer can consume a person but it sounds as if Judith has made her plans and is sticking to them. She is further along with that than I was some three and a half years ago. I envy your time with her and her with you.
Oh, when I saw the lovely pictures of Moses getting married on Cocoa Beach I looked at the date and realized I was in town...isn't that ironic? Would have loved to have met you..what a beautiful daughter and the pictures you posted were great...one with the Pier in the background.

7776. arkymalarky - 7/1/2012 3:34:42 PM

Oh! That would have been great! Thank you. It was the most magical event, and very low stress. I recommend a beach wedding to every parent. Mose was stressed, but had it been traditional she'd probably have had to be wheeled down the aisle.

Judith has really benefitted from catching this early. And she always amazes me with her practical, live in the moment approach to life.
