8006. arkymalarky - 2/8/2013 4:57:45 PM And on bb you can create docs and presentations and other practical stuff that's part of the phone 8007. iiibbb - 2/28/2013 9:04:08 PM
State of the art image processing 8008. Jenerator - 3/21/2013 6:26:36 PM I bought a padcaster yesterday, and light and lens adapter.
I felt inspired after watching Searching for Sugarman! iPad has an app that makes an effect for movies that is identical to 16mm film.
Next year (in class) we will be trying short films in addition to documentaries.
Does anyone else use their iPad for filming?
8009. arkymalarky - 3/21/2013 8:47:13 PM That sounds great. I haven't but I'll check it out 8010. Jenerator - 3/21/2013 11:13:25 PM It's pretty amazing what iPads do. 8011. robertjayb - 4/2/2013 6:24:49 AM Climate change in my backyard...
For the past week a pair of white-winged doves has been joining the usual mourning doves for snacks on the patio. Until recent years white wings were associated primarily with Mexico and the Rio Grande valley. They have been established in Houston for a few years and now at least two have moved another 100 miles farther north. Also we've had a really rare bird my guides say is a ringed turtle-dove. Never heard of such. Larger than the other doves, solid beige instead of mottled gray and with a black swoosh on the back of the neck and a squared off tail instead of a pointed one. Meantime the area has been designated in severe drought condition. I believe it. One of our oaks is dead and another is shedding bark, Need to find an arborist for advice. Damn.
8012. arkymalarky - 4/24/2013 2:10:53 AM I'm going back to my droid on Monday. I can't wait. 3i, you need to try an app called Sherpa. It works great, similar to Siri. 8013. Jenerator - 1/7/2014 12:16:16 AM So, over the break, we were all trying to decide which service we wanted to attend on Christmas Eve.
My mom and I decided we would go back to Hunter's Glen Baptist Church for an evening service - it's where both she and I were baptized. I hadn't been to any service there in a couple of years and figured it would be great to see familiar faces and listen to Dr. Kim Hall teach.
(I transferred memberships to a different Baptist church when I moved.)
Anyway - I google searched for service times and the results were shocking. The first story listed was about Dr. Hall's passing.
He committed suicide in 2011.
I couldn't and still can't believe it. Dr. Hall was the smartest, kindest, most incredible Christian man I have ever known. He was a true academic and a gifted teacher in all subjects.
Honestly, he was and is the standard I use when comparing all other pastors.
I read everything I could find about it - which wasn't much - and I was and am left with such a feeling of loss. I can't explain it. plus, I feel guilty. Why didn't I know about it? How come no one, not one single person, told me?
I even found a letter I wrote him thanking him for helping me understand certain theological questions I had. I didn't mail it, and I regret that so much. What if receiving a letter of gratitude would have helped him? So many unanswered questions.
One of the many wonderful things about him was his compassion for others. He served voluntarily as a police and fire chaplain because he wanted to help others when faced with the loss of a loved one. It takes a very special person to be able to comfort people in those kinds of situations, and he absolutely had that gift.
To know that he took his own life and left behind a wife and two sons is so contradictory to who he was.
8014. Jenerator - 1/7/2014 12:21:19 AM I did not mean to post that here. 8015. alistairconnor - 1/9/2014 12:40:56 PM Hey Wabbit, are you around? We need to talk about hosting issues. 8016. arkymalarky - 2/7/2014 7:50:17 PM Is Google evilly insidious and is Google+ their first open step toward world domination?
Discuss. 8017. iiibbb - 2/7/2014 10:07:08 PM G+ is not useful as a means for connecting to friends.
There is no way to insulate your G+ profile from people you don't know.
So the answer is "hells no" 8018. iiibbb - 2/7/2014 10:08:05 PM I love Google though... their services are great, and I am careful not to put all my proverbial eggs in their basket... I don't use their cloud, as a for instance, and I'll never use their wallet. 8019. iiibbb - 2/7/2014 10:08:47 PM As a fun exercise.... try to find a Google customer service phone number or email. 8020. arkymalarky - 2/7/2014 10:55:21 PM Right. They're trying to funnel me to g+ thru my droid. Ain't happening. 8021. arkymalarky - 2/9/2014 10:01:52 PM 3i (or anyone else) if you download wordsmith and challenge cmoonrise I'll play you. I like it better than WWF. More like scrabble and less invasive IMO. 8022. arkymalarky - 2/9/2014 10:08:11 PM It's the one word swordsmith app on iPhone and droid 8023. alistairconnor - 2/10/2014 6:14:36 PM My nephew-from-Google (he lives in Munich) was at my place over new year, and I probed about a few of the more obvious fkucups -- and got some useful, somewhat apologetic explanations of "what the hell they were thinking".
I'm only on Google+ because he posts stuff occasionally. 8024. iiibbb - 2/10/2014 6:39:53 PM Google+ is useful because a lot of Google services are tied to it, but just because that's how they've organized it doesn't make it useful for social networking. It's no Facebook replacement.
There has been some buzz about how Facebook is going to go extinct within the next 3 years... comparing it's user graph to Myspace. However, I'm not sure if it's believed. Myspace went away because Facebook was better. Facebook isn't going to go away until something better comes along. Google+ wasn't it. Snapchat isn't it. I'm not even sure if the downward element of this graph isn't Facebook actually starting to purge fake accounts... which they've gotten more serious about since it went public - seeing as unique and real members determines Facebook's value.
I'll happily jump ship when something else pops up, but Facebook remains the best way for me to keep in touch with my largest circle of friends/acquaintances. 8025. Wombat - 2/10/2014 7:38:57 PM "Like."
