I have a Kirby vacuum older than I am by a good decade and it still works. It should probably be in a museum.

Happy 14th, mags (and AC, wherever you are)!

My two sons take turns in frightening the bejesus out of me each time they mention their latest purchases and how much they cost. The way I understand how much everything costs nowadays, I should be in a museum along with my clothes (three different sizes) that occupy all the closets in this house except one.

Happy Bastille Day, Mago!

10315. Magoseph - 7/14/2004 6:36:08 AM

My older son's wife entertained me today on the Messenger telling that the stove she wants to replace can be mine if I want it. It works fine, she said, and fits well with your scheme of colors. Since it is a gas stove, I may be interested, although I couldn't care less since the microwave is fine for what I cook. The one she wants costs between 5 and 7 thousands. Are stoves that expensive these days?

10316. Magoseph - 7/14/2004 6:36:55 AM

And thank you, Wabbit, for the good wishes.

Judith, how did the new roof turn out?

10318. arkymalarky - 7/14/2004 7:11:35 AM

Hey all! It's good to be "home."

I got in yesterday evening, but I'm just now getting a chance to really look around. I had a workshop today.

10319. arkymalarky - 7/14/2004 7:24:51 AM

Stopping in the middle of catching up to give a big SMOOCH to Ulgine for Message # 10149. I love the job. Some strong people in state business and government are trying to ruin it for all of us, kids included, but we won't let them.

10320. judithathome - 7/14/2004 8:09:06 AM

Hey, Arks...are we still on for the end of the month? How was your trip?

Magos, the new roof is done and tomorrow they are repairing the water damage on the porch ceiling. The new roof looks fabulous. They did it in one day! Had I known they weren't going to have to come back today, I would have brought Klaus home yesterday instead of this morning. He is no worse for the evening away, however. And far better off than he'd have been sticking around for all the nail pounding that went on here...they worked til around 9:30 last night.

Hey Judith! Everything's set to go, and we're looking forward to seeing you two and to a great gathering--about five states will be represented.

Our vacation was really good, meaning we relaxed and enjoyed ourselves AND caught up some, the drive was more tedious than usual, and the workshops afterward were very informative but tiring. I have doctor/dental/hair, etc, but no more workshops/meetings until August 10.

Sorry about your car. Hope Keoni's truck is good as new now. We still have to finish unpacking the van, and I'm tempted to trade it in with all the stuff still in it.

I can't remember what the roofing was like here, except they came early and finished a lot faster than I thought they would. We had our carpets cleaned while we were gone, and they're like new, thank goodness. They were getting pretty bad.

10322. Macnas - 7/14/2004 4:17:45 PM

Morning all.

Welcome back Arky, good to see you had a fine time.

Mago, I hope you at least shouted at a public official yesterday.

10323. Magoseph - 7/14/2004 8:55:57 PM

Mac, I didn't do any of the things you mentioned, but I did turn up my record of the Marseillaise, opened my doors and windows and blasted it out for several hours.

10324. Macnas - 7/14/2004 9:24:41 PM

That'll do nicely.

Good morning, Cap'n, and how are things with the wife and the kids these summer days? Oh, I forget, maybe you don't have any kids...or wife? If that is the case, tell your pal Wonk to stop by and tell us what's going in his life, please.

10327. wonkers2 - 7/15/2004 1:01:24 AM

Cap'n Dirty sez,"Wife and kids? You gotta be kiddin'! I leave that up ter wonkers. He's one a them nerds married with kids."

I'm busy working on this recipe, I want you to know: Gazpacho.

It is a rare request from Flexy here, so and for a change, I must comply. It looks easy and since I didn't have to do the shopping for it, I am doing it. The tomatoes were a gift from a Flexy's golfer pal whom he met at the club this morning.
Orange-Tomato Gazpacho
1 cup fresh orange juice
3 slices good-quality white bread, torn into chunks
2 medium cucumbers, peeled, seeded and coarsely chopped
1 medium green bell pepper, cored, seeded and coarsely chopped
1/2 medium red onion, peeled and coarsely chopped
2 pounds ripe tomatoes (about 6 medium), peeled and seeded
1 large garlic clove, peeled
1/2 to 1 small jalapeno pepper, seeded
3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 large orange, peeled, sectioned, and cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 cup tomato juice (optional)
Paper-thin orange slices

10329. Magoseph - 7/15/2004 1:28:12 AM

PS. I have doubled the recipe. We have lots of tomatoes here.
Flexy's friend has a nursery attached to his house. He has orchids too and some times, rarely though, he sends some to me.

10330. judithathome - 7/15/2004 1:41:30 AM

Sounds great, Magos. I'm making Brazillian Saffron Chicken with rice for dinner. Recipe looks like plain old chicken with onions and peppers but they call it Brazillian, for some reason.

wonkers' 2nd & 3rd offspring
