I would say that the average age here is higher than other similar fora that I've frequented.

Maybe 43-44, or even higher if we only count the top 20 posters or so? Actually, it's one of the things I like about the site, because there is a whole lot less white noise attendant.

What's your story, tmesis? (Welcome to the Mote).

10812. Magoseph - 8/12/2004 9:07:46 AM

... I'm really sorry about that gay porn photo.

Oh, don't be, tmesis, it's done and forgotten as far as I'm concerned--only you could have chosen one with some young hotties, though.

10813. tmesis - 8/12/2004 9:09:43 AM

The politics and religion/philosophy threads seem to be mostly garbage.

I go to school. I think farts are hilarious.

10814. Magoseph - 8/12/2004 9:10:44 AM

What's your story, tmesis?

Yes, come often here and talk to us, tmesis. Call me Mags.

10815. Magoseph - 8/12/2004 9:15:41 AM

My two sons went through that fart's stage. How old are you, tmesis?

10816. arkymalarky - 8/12/2004 9:20:47 AM

Because if this is an online retirement community, I'm really sorry about that gay porn photo.

Why? They all looked like retirees.

10817. arkymalarky - 8/12/2004 9:21:57 AM

I just turned 45, btw. I've been here almost 8 years.

10818. marjoribanks - 8/12/2004 9:24:08 AM

Actually, the religion thread regularly goes through a spate of hectic activity that is unusually informed and thoughtful given the usual general internet fora standards.

Part of this is because we have one very well-versed resident poster, the maddeningly unrepentant fundamentalist kuliginthehooligan. Extremist, yes. Always game for a battle, also yes. And then there is the immensely more palatable Pelty who you have already met.

These men are on your side, one suspects. But add them together, and the other posters who show up now and then, and you have a far more formidable intellectual playground than is usual in places like this.

10819. marjoribanks - 8/12/2004 9:28:44 AM

Now, tmesis, you may wish to browse the religions threads archived at this site to understand a bit about this site's background.

10820. marjoribanks - 8/12/2004 9:32:39 AM

I'm 36.

I remember when (choked voice) Res was appallingly young, so very wet behind the ears that one constantly felt the urge to pat him on the head and slip him a silver dollar for his book larnin.

Now, (gulp) he's all growed up for real and (sob) he's found hisself a missus. Why I cain't hardly figger how the years gone by.

10821. arkymalarky - 8/12/2004 9:36:34 AM

Are you and PE the same age? And Res is right at 30? I can't keep up.

10822. Magoseph - 8/12/2004 9:38:01 AM

I ran two miles today, so there, I'm young.

10823. marjoribanks - 8/12/2004 9:40:09 AM

I believe that Rask and Pseuder and I are all 1968 vintage, that Dandillon is somewhere 2-3 years later, and Res is 31 or so.

There was, at one time, a whole bunch of posters the same exact age as Irving. I think AC might be from that "class".

10824. arkymalarky - 8/12/2004 9:40:20 AM

Good for you, Mags!

That Czech-mate/checkmate story is just too cool, Snow.

10825. tmesis - 8/12/2004 9:41:11 AM

Mags,

I just turned 30. Is it sad that I still love to sniff my farts? I have a particular technique for doing this. After I let one rip, I turn my head just-so then take quick inhalations in succession. Hot.

Marjoribanks,

I don't know what you mean by that fag kuligin being on my side.

10826. arkymalarky - 8/12/2004 9:42:08 AM

Isn't Irv around 42? I was thinking he was a bit younger than I am and Alistair was a bit younger than Irv. I know it seemed like I've seen quite a few posters here hit their 40th birthday (including me).

10827. marjoribanks - 8/12/2004 9:47:57 AM

I don't know what you mean by that fag kuligin being on my side.

Well, I don't exactly know either. I generally barely skim the religion thread unless the topic is something unusually obscure or unusual. Homosexuality, abortion, these things don't really draw my interest any more.

Where did you come from, tmesis? Forum-wise, I mean. And what are your pet issues, if you have any?

10828. marjoribanks - 8/12/2004 9:50:00 AM

I honestly can't remember precisely how old Irv is.

Which is a shame, because he not only remembered how old each of us was - he also maintained an excellent birthday list and greeted us each very promptly and thoughtfully.

10829. tmesis - 8/12/2004 9:55:49 AM

I used to read the international folder at Salon's TT a while back. I actually read this forum for a few days back then as well before I moved on for whatever reason. I like health care, lit. esp poetry, classical music, languages, and porn.

10830. arkymalarky - 8/12/2004 9:56:21 AM

Yes he did. My (now former, unfortunately) superintendent was the same way, and I barely remember my own.

Mose's birthday is on Thanksgiving this year. I told her we were going to have a big family gathering and a huge feast for it. She didn't seem to appreciate the sentiment.
