You people are such hypocrites. If you can't kill and eat an animal you're on first name terms with, then you shouldn't be eating animals.

This from a "non-practicing" vegetarian? Ha!

I have seen a pic of Resonance and let's just say that Marjori is being very, very gracious!

Marjori is a very gracious fellow. I'm sure he would have been gracious had he seen your picture, but he probably didn't want to give the website his credit card number.

IAC I am indeed exceedingly lucky to have the hottie that I have -- not because I don't rate, but because people like Woden are exceedingly rare. We're both lucky we found each other single when we did, and we don't forget it. It helps keep us grounded, in fact. That's the nice thing about having a girlfriend that isn't a dollar a dozen at Wal-Mart.

10955. angel-five - 8/18/2004 6:56:09 AM

Thank God for mortality!

Thank god for yours, at any rate.

10956. Ms. No - 8/18/2004 7:02:25 AM

You know, as much as I prefer it when people get along I was kind of hoping for a nice little melee to take us up through the millennial.

I bet Ulgine will capture it in the night.

Now wait, I had a very nice date with a woman from WalMart. All dressed in the blue vest and everything. Lovely she was.

10958. anomie - 8/18/2004 7:05:35 AM

A5 and Woden: Request permission to see the photo. I'm a photo buff, you see. Would you authorize someone to forward to my email? Judith, maybe?

10959. SnowOwl - 8/18/2004 7:27:33 AM

anomie, I can offer you a single brunette with a European passport, but alas she's lacking a steady income.

Res, you and Woden are very well matched indeed and it's great that you found each other.

10960. anomie - 8/18/2004 7:58:23 AM

SnowOwl, How nice of you, and good to see you here. I hope all is well.

I was mostly joking about the brunette, although I am single, and not busy at the moment, and who needs money anyway. The passport bit is good. So maybe there's some truth to the joke. I'll figure out a way to get you my email without posting it publically. Or if you have a public email address, I can write you.

E-bay

10962. angel-five - 8/18/2004 8:04:25 AM

I hear they're doing a special where when you buy one brunette with a Euro passport you can get a dozen Texas trailer thumpers for free (well, you have to pay the postage).

Now, I know, you're going 'wtf do I need a dozen for?' But you might need to change a light bulb, you never can tell.

10963. anomie - 8/18/2004 8:05:28 AM

So that all can laugh with me...that was an actual link to the actual EBay. Ha!

Like I hadn't tried THAT already!

10964. anomie - 8/18/2004 8:06:08 AM

But now, what about that pic, A5? Permission granted?

10965. angel-five - 8/18/2004 8:06:51 AM

Sure.

10966. anomie - 8/18/2004 8:17:57 AM

...he said reluctantly. Thanks! And good luck with the thread.

10967. woden - 8/18/2004 8:31:57 AM

Anomie wants to gaze upon the face of Satan.

OF SATAN!

10968. SnowOwl - 8/18/2004 8:53:33 AM

We all want to gaze on the face of Satan and his consort!

Changing the subject from Hell to high school:

(Okay, not that much of a change . . .)

New Wage-and-Hour regulations affect scholastic hiring?

"Fearing that it will end up owing hourly employees overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), Akron School District (OH) has decided to stop offering such employees supplemental contracts to coach or act as advisers for extracurricular activities. According to Patrick Schmitz, deputy director of legal services for the Ohio School Boards Association, hourly employees with supplemental contracts are not exempt from the FLSA, which means they could be entitled to overtime. . ."

My wife, who works part-time at my daughter's high school and additionally serves as a class advisor, was told today that she might have to be replaced by a salaried teacher as class advisor because of FLSA concerns. It won't be a financial hit if that occurs - the large number of hours she spends in that role divided by the flat-fee stipend she gets for that additional duty equals what an Southeast Asian orphan gets paid per hour to make sneakers - but she'd like to continue.

10970. OhioSTOPAS - 8/18/2004 10:35:01 AM

The real hit if this is in fact the law will be with regard to athletic coaches. Several coaches or assistant coaches are full- or part-time non-salaried employees ("classified employees") who work more than forty hours a week during the time their sports are in season. They are also presently paid a flat-fee stipend for serving as coaches. Under this law, they'd have to be paid time-and-a-half, based on their "regular" wage, to coach.

The apparent source of this concern is the new FSLA regulations adopted in April and effective July 1. I thought the net effect of these regulations was that many people who formerly were eligible for overtime pay would LOSE the legal right to be paid overtime. It doesn't seem correct that people who formerly weren't entitled to overtime would become entitled to it under Bush administration regulations.

And if this is the law, it is an ass. I can see the need to protect employees against being coerced to "volunteer" for extra flat fee assignments, but coercion is not a problem in this setting.

10971. Absensia - 8/18/2004 12:27:18 PM

I agree, Ms. No. I haven't seen any pics of Res or Wodes, (but don't let that stop you from sending them, you two,) but if they are anywhere as lovely on the outside as they are on the inside, woo hoo. (Yeah, even Res has his moments of being nice. : ) Sorry A-5, but the 5 bucks you gave me not to tell only lasted for so long.)
