Marsha Marsha Marsha!

(Sorry. Someone had to do it.)

Great to see you here!

But take it from an Arky--if Res entered the Electric Cowboy sporting that 'do he'd be laughed out the door by every mullet-cut Toby Keith fan in the place.

Sukey,

So great to have you in the Mote! I really enjoy your posts in RI.

Judith,

Sorry about the place. Sounds like it would have been nice, had it been what it should have.

11087. arkymalarky - 8/20/2004 8:21:47 AM

MsNo,

I think black widow bites and poison ivy just make you wish you were dead. Neither Bob nor I are allergic to poison ivy (I guess there should be something growing here I don't react to), but I know some people who've had it really bad. I don't know anyone who's been bitten by a black widow, but a NatGeo special I saw on them once scared the crap out of me. I know several who've been bitten by brown recluses with reactions from moderate to severe, but all the ones I know had major scars from the hole the bite rotted into them.

Great slide show in Escapes: Anomie's Travels!

About the vermin. Give me anything but the furry kind. I don't know why, but mice and rats creep me out - even in movies.

My cousin just moved to Maine and found a bat snoozing in her house, and then another. But, bats I could be okay with.

11090. anomie - 8/20/2004 8:49:15 AM

Oh Judith. I should hire you. Just need to figure out what we should sell. Ha!

11091. arkymalarky - 8/20/2004 8:52:26 AM

Mose just called and she's on her way home for the weekend. She reminded me of another Southern hazard just now in telling what happened to a friend's boyfriend--snapping turtles.

The friend and her boyfriend were together and saw a turtle, and the b/f had the bright idea to feed it some grass. He had to get a tetanus shot. He was going to shoot it, but Mose's g/f talked him out of it.

Just another day in the boonies.

11092. arkymalarky - 8/20/2004 8:54:28 AM

I used to think mice were cute until I moved out here. I just despise them, but Mose was always afraid of them. When we'd tuck her in when she was little, she'd say "Do you think a mouse will come?" all casual-like, as though she were just wondering.

11093. judithathome - 8/20/2004 8:58:37 AM

Arky, that is so funny about the turtle...I'm sure Bob will relish hearing about it! ;-)

11094. arkymalarky - 8/20/2004 9:09:36 AM

If it was Mose's b/f, I'm sure he would. I don't think he has much of an opinion about her friend's b/f. ;-)

BTW, I'm very afraid of bats. A man from this area got bitten by one and didn't go to the doctor and he died of rabies. They swoop right by you out here, and I can't stand it.

11095. arkymalarky - 8/20/2004 9:13:06 AM

Judith saved me from a red wasp when she was here. I'm very afraid of them too. I'm watching one right now and waiting for Bob to come in and kill it. So if I run shrieking away from the computer, don't mind me. ;-)

11096. neato - 8/20/2004 9:21:26 AM

Arky, you dice with death daily, I reckon.
A weta is the creature I hated most when I lived in NZ. Up to 4 inches long, and the heaviest insect in the world. One of these landed on my pillow when I was asleep a few years ago

11097. anomie - 8/20/2004 9:24:02 AM

And Arky...I do know what you mean about the kids, I think.

In my case, I don't mind the work that has to be done so much as the high ranking egos that need reassuring. I'll even admit that reassurance is a necessary evil, but I'm tired of it. I should have moved up or out.

...two years...

11098. anomie - 8/20/2004 9:26:14 AM

Neato, I'm glad you're okay. I'm glad you survived. Thank you for sharing.

DON'T EVER, EVER POST A PICTURE LIKE THAT AFTER 6PM EST AGAIN!

11099. anomie - 8/20/2004 9:27:23 AM

And if anyone comes out with mice pics, I'm outta here.

11100. arkymalarky - 8/20/2004 9:31:51 AM

Hahaha! I agree with Anomie's 11098, Neato. That thing is wicked. If I saw one of those in my house, much less on my pillow, I'd move out of the state.

11101. arkymalarky - 8/20/2004 9:35:32 AM

On teachers, AR is in crisis with its teacher shortage and is trying to attract ed majors with more scholarships. If the state doesn't change how it does things, I'm out in five years. The Peter Principle rules in the AR State Ed System. Of course it's exactly what some of the people driving all this crap want--an unsupportable, unworkable free public education system.

I'm starting my masters in January and I will be gone at the first opportunity, which is exactly five years from last May. If they go back to being reasonable, I'll quit whenever I feel like I want to and I can get back in whenever I want to, so I will have a lot of flexibility.

11102. anomie - 8/20/2004 9:38:07 AM

We need this kind of thing when Kulligin is gone though.

Whatever that means.

I'm back on the Satan thing, maybe.

But no resemblance to Res, this thing.

Marshame should jump in NOW!

11103. anomie - 8/20/2004 10:00:23 AM

Ms No,

Did you have chickens running around too?

Your description reminded me of visiting our sharecropping relatives in the 50's and 60's.

Outhouses?

Homemade pork sausage?

(I do remember the eggs cooking in butter smelled great)

11104. judithathome - 8/20/2004 11:13:32 AM

I like eggs sort of soft in the middle but crispy on the outer edges. Very hard to get the perfect fried egg with those qualifications.
