I was so pissed when I got home. Our electricity had been shut off, and here it is the hottest day of the summer. It's back on now (obviously). I evidently forgot my July bill after we got back from vacation, and I always pay my monthly bills the third week of the month, when we get paid. I pay them at once so I won't forget them--except when I go on vacation, apparently.

Mags, sometimes crumbs mysteriously accumulate in the keyboard. No one knows how it happens but it can cause keys to stick.

11202. anomie - 8/26/2004 8:13:14 AM

Sorry to hear that, Arky.
I was miffed when I got my first water bill here. It was about $5, but it had a $15 dollar late fee cause I left in on my desk for a week when I went away.

Mago, I understand. And yes, it sounds like your keyboard needs cleaning. Maybe you can pop the spacebar off and clean it out.

Ano, Juds, the keyboard is sparkling clean now and the space bar is still acting up. I think it's the humidity in the air. It's been hot, hot, heavy hot. I'll put the air on tomorrow.

Here isthe wayitlooks when Idon't correct my typing.

I found the above graphic I don't know where now. Do you like it?

11206. anomie - 8/26/2004 9:29:50 AM

I like it. Is it a fractile?

11207. Macnas - 8/26/2004 3:47:58 PM

Fractal, some people use them as screen savers, lord help us.

VOIP = voice over IP, where your handset is assigned an IP number and acts as a device on a data network, like any PC. It makes for a very efficient system, especially when moving from office to office, as taking your number with you is simple.
It has just occurred to me that Pelle is the qualified person to answer that query.

11208. PelleNilsson - 8/26/2004 5:43:47 PM

There are may providers of VoIP and also many service levels. What you need to do, anomie, if you intend to scrap your ordinary telephony subscription is to make sure that your VoIP service allows you to call and receive calls to/from all other phones in the world. If you don't prefer to sit with a headset in front of the PC you should also ensure that you can hook your current phone(s) into the cable modem.

I'm fairly sure that VoIP will be cheaper than using the cellphone.

11209. anomie - 8/26/2004 5:52:39 PM

Macnas, Pelle, Thanks for the VOIP info, and the spelling.

I've also heard of another onling phone service called Vonage. I'll check them out.

My cell phone is covered by the job and is good anywhere in the U.S. I have a card for the few international calls I make.

Neato and I are finding wierd links in our posts over in Childhood, and I'm getting pop-ups at the Mote homepage. Anyone know what's up with this?

11211. neato - 8/26/2004 6:10:58 PM

I'M not finding them!

11212. anomie - 8/26/2004 6:39:09 PM

Sorry, Neato. I assumed everyone could see them. Perhaps it's just me. And the links go to a slide projector shopping place. Very strange.

11213. anomie - 8/26/2004 6:40:06 PM

And there it is again, each time I type in thise two words.

11214. PelleNilsson - 8/26/2004 7:11:56 PM

I saw a sure sign of autumn today -- Donegal crabs.

11215. Macnas - 8/26/2004 7:31:52 PM

Give them back ye thieving vikings.

11216. PelleNilsson - 8/26/2004 8:13:08 PM

You don't get them in your place? Of course you do.

11217. Macnas - 8/26/2004 8:49:18 PM

What? Crabs? I never.

11218. PsychProf - 8/27/2004 1:48:35 AM

Mac...I understand the Vikings humour as a result of my visit to your fine country.

I'm an early Vonage adopter. It's worked out quite well. I've reduced my monthly cell minutes, cutting my cell rate in half, and pay 24.99 for 500 minutes of LD and unlimited regional calling. It's on a DSL, and so I had to buy a verizon line--which is okay; I use that as my home number and the Vonage line as my business. On a cable modem you

Simple to set up. You get a Cisco box that you plug into your broadband connection and into your phone.
