You'd have to venture into right-wing news sites to see/hear mention of Dr. Nicole Lurie, who would have been in charge of all this, but is mysteriously absent. Her title is "Rear Admiral in US Public Health Service", also "Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response" in the current administration. Was she fired? or what? Wiki on Nicole Lurie

"Nicole Lurie, A Doctor for Her Country" /Penn Medicine

To save you from the taint of "enemy" information, here's an old 2011 CNN link about overcharging for an antiviral drug: Siga, Perelman, Lurie, and Chimerix

The Liberian President's Son Is A Doctor; Here's Why He's Staying Away From Ebola

Trillium, it is difficult to separate the wheat from the chaff in this "event"...personally, I think much of this hysteria over Ebola is politically manufactured election BS.

Election BS that will probably work and we will feel far more effects through the years from the Republican influence on the Supreme Court than we will see ANY hold-over from the "Ebola scare".

Three or four cases out of the entire population of this country is nothing...more people die of flu here...they die of measles and whooping cough...diseases for which we HAVE vaccines but some morons refuse to use them...more people in this country die of NEGLECT than from Ebola.

So...my advice...living 30 miles from Ground Zero, so to speak... is: relax. In two weeks, after the election is over, the country will go back to the usual. That being Congress will continue to ignore fully 75% of the country while padding their resumes for lobbying jobs down the road and nothing will change.

Trying to follow shootings in Ottawa. A BFD?

The BBC yesterday:

"Canada has raised its terror threat level from low to medium but has stressed there is no specific threat.

A government official said the move was in response to an increase in online "general chatter" from radical groups including Islamic State and al-Qaeda.

On Tuesday a Muslim convert was killed by Quebec police after deliberately hitting two soldiers in his car, killing one and injuring another.

A minister said it was a "terrible act of violence against our country"."

Evidently, the bar is rather low in Canada...kill one, national emergency.

I don't think NYC or Boston would be impressed.

11458. judithathome - 10/22/2014 11:43:04 PM

Well, it has driven the hysteria over Ebola off the news screens...when did television become incapable of following more than one "breaking story"?

11459. iiibbb - 10/23/2014 3:59:54 AM

Can they even follow one?

11460. judithathome - 10/24/2014 9:30:27 PM

High school shooting in Seattle WA...lots of reporting that starts with "We know nothing of what is actually going on but we are reporting, regardless..."

From what I have gleaned...high school Freshman who was a shy, nice kid...

Unmanned rocket explodes on lift-off in Florida: Really? We Need To Study Pea Shoots In Outer Space? I Have News: No One LIKES Peas!

The "lifters" were re-conditioned Soviet products...it's come to this: America is SO anti-science and NASA programs have been cut so drastically that we are reduced to using discarded Soviet products.

I certainly hope that headstrong young healthcare worker doesn't get Ebola...she has stated today that she will defy the quarantine orders of the state of Maine and leave her house if she "wants" to by tomorrow.

She's citing the Constitution...well, sweetie...this is EBOLA, not a meeting of the local DAR. Get effin' REAL, okay?

11463. arkymalarky - 10/30/2014 12:35:12 AM

it was a commercial launch by a company called orbital science.

11465. arkymalarky - 10/30/2014 12:36:29 AM

haha! don't know about the nurse.

11466. iiibbb - 10/30/2014 3:57:33 AM

She's been tested for Ebola and is asymptomatic.

The Maine Governor said they'll arrest her if she defies the order. Who's going to touch her unless they think she's safe enough to touch... and if she's safe enough to touch... why is she being quarantined... and if they do arrest her... where are they going to put her?

And what if she never has it.

Fucking stupid.

11467. arkymalarky - 10/30/2014 4:32:26 AM

The Maine governor is known for being a little bit out there.

11468. iiibbb - 10/30/2014 5:43:15 PM

She's made two forays without being arrested. Governor posturing busted.

Now she just has to make it the 3 weeks without actually getting Ebola.

11470. arkymalarky - 10/30/2014 5:57:04 PM

of course, before the man from Liberia, doctors and nurses had been going back and forth treating Ebola patients for literally years.

11471. iiibbb - 10/30/2014 6:58:46 PM

But if she did happen to get it... people will freak out and the Teabola idiots will feel vindicated.
