Apologies for the over-use of "face it"...it's late in the afternoon. Sundowners. ;-)

Today at our doctor's office spouse was asked, in apparent seriousness, if she had been in Africa recently.

11476. alIstaIrcOnnOr - 10/31/2014 10:46:30 AM

I agree with everybody on this issue :)

Sure, she's a health professional and should be trusted to keep an eye on herself. But a she's a health professional and shold not make a libertarian wingnut spectacle of herself... You nailed her, Judith.

Epidemiology trumps individual liberties, every day of the week and twice on Sundays. Even if it's medically unjustified, there is *no* harm done.

Nurses and Dr's have returned from Ebola Africa for years and years.

Why quarantine now? What's different right now?

Whisking people into hospitals, treating them like livestock, having keystone cops be the point people for dealing with this issue who can't even take temperatures.

She is attention whoring purely in response to the chicken little crowd.

Meanwhile --- flu season.

11479. judithathome - 10/31/2014 8:19:42 PM

Exactly...flu season will cut a bigger swath in this country FAR bigger than the one from Ebola...IN THIS COUNTRY. And the lack of inoculating for measles and whooping cough by mothers who are "afraid" of autism will kill more children than Ebola IN THIS COUNTRY.

Yet no one is up in arms about people continuing to go to work or send kids to school when there are symptoms of those diseases in evidence.

In fact, I've already seen the first ads for cold and flu medicine that show an attractive mom listing off her symptoms to the camera while her kids and husband stand by in disappointment...give her a bottle of the magic elixir and she is all smiles, chortling "Oh what a relief it is!" and sledding down a hill with squealing kids in tow...WTF? Same ad only person trots off to work, seemingly infecting everyone along the way.

Where's the outcry when unthinking assholes infect all of us with FLU?

I'm putting this in here today because at the rate I'm going, mind-wise, I may forget it by tomorrow: Shocking Mistake By Prosecutor's Team In Darren Wilson Grand Jury

11481. arkymalarky - 11/28/2014 11:53:55 PM

I saw that "mistake" pointed out almost immediately, before O'Donnell but on MSNBC. I'd like to know whether in his history as a prosecutor he has pointed that out in any other cases: No, you can't shoot someone while they're running the opposite direction.

Well...evidently you can kill someone in NYC for holding a handful of loosies: Cop Cleared in Choking Death of Eric Garner

11484. arkymalarky - 12/3/2014 11:27:01 PM

pathetic.

11485. judithathome - 12/4/2014 1:24:21 AM

Yep!

Timothy Loehmann, Cop Who Shot Tamir Rice, Deemed Unfit For Policing 2 Years Ago

The Cleveland police officer who fatally shot a 12-year-old holding a replica gun in November was deemed unsuited for police service two years ago, newly released documents show.

Timothy Loehmann, now 26, was employed by the City of Independence Police Department in Independence, Ohio, for six months in 2012, the Guardian reports. In an internal memo from that November, Independence Deputy Chief Jim Polak criticized Loehmann’s behavior during a firearms training.

"He could not follow simple directions, could not communicate clear thoughts nor recollections, and his handgun performance was dismal," the memo, available in full at Cleveland.com, states.

According to the report, Loehmann became “distracted and weepy,” in part because of an issue with a girlfriend and uncertainty about his future. Polak criticized Loehmann for being “not mature enough in his accepting of responsibility or his understanding in the severity of his loss of control on the range,” and concluded the report with recommending that Loehmann be “released” from his position.

The memo also cites several previous issues, including Loehmann removing a bulletproof vest at the wrong time because he felt too warm.

"I do not believe time, nor training, will be able to change or correct the deficiencies,” Polak wrote.

Loehmann quit the force days after Polak’s memo was sent out, citing “personal reasons.” His personnel file classified him as “eligible for rehire,” WOIO reports.

News: the guy who choked Garner to death has a past, too.

...Pantaleo also came under scrutiny in 2012 when he was sued for allegedly falsely arresting and strip-searching a group of men in Staten Island. According to the New York Daily News, the NYPD settled the suit for $30,000 at the time without any admission of wrongdoing and Pantaleo remained on the force.

I heard last night that he has yet ANOTHER hearing pending. Seems everyone involved in these recent incidents get second chances...except for the victims.

11488. judithathome - 12/4/2014 8:34:52 PM

Mayor DeBlasio said he is moving the timeline up and equipping the police with body cameras this week rather than later this month...hello! There was video of THIS killing....and what difference did THAT make??

11489. judithathome - 12/4/2014 8:36:14 PM

Besides, if anything "awkward" does go down...how hard is it to say "Sorry...the body cam malfunctioned."

11490. iiibbb - 12/4/2014 10:35:02 PM

"There was video of THIS killing....and what difference did THAT make??"

It didn't make a difference, but it's making a difference.

11491. arkymalarky - 12/4/2014 11:33:11 PM

Video taping if what has gotten the conversation going so much in recent months. That cop beating a woman on the side of the road in Los Angeles for example. I think everybody needs to be video taping when they see suspicious interactions like that. The body cameras are for when the cops get you in the dark alley and nobody's there to videotape what they do to you. And they also protect the police from being falsely accused.

11492. arkymalarky - 12/5/2014 12:38:21 AM

As with teachers, police officers need to be paid more and subject to more scrutiny and higher standards than they are now.

11493. judithathome - 12/5/2014 12:42:47 AM

News flash: Boehner let the House vote today on a pressing issue of importance: they passed a bill to disallow Social Security to....NAZIS.

This is NOT a joke. They actually did that.
