SnowOwl, where do your kids live now?

Mago, one's in Sweden, one in London, one in Australia, and two still here in Dunedin, although one of them will be in Prague in the New Year.

Wonkers, congrats to you all. I love all of my kids' partners - they've been wonderful additions to the family.

Congrats Wonk!

11654. Magoseph - 10/13/2004 5:21:01 AM

Wonderful news, Wonk, I'm happy for you.

11655. Macnas - 10/13/2004 10:55:48 AM

Larger shandy, quarter white lemonade, three quarters larger, is a nice summer thirst quencher. You'd only manage one pint of it though.

Mago, yes you can get baguettes here, but nothing to rival that from a French bakery first thing in the morning.

With regard to offal and innards, well it's true, we old yuropeens do consume a lot of it, particularly ourselves and the brits. I could naver take to kidneys though, always tasted of piss no matter what you did with them.

11656. Macnas - 10/13/2004 10:56:38 AM

Just saw wonks good news, well done all involved.

11657. Magoseph - 10/13/2004 12:44:20 PM

Hello, Mac,

I can’t remember eating kidneys, but I do eating ‘cervelle d'agneau’ ‘tripes à la mode de Caen’, and ‘fricassée de lapin’, dishes particularly loathsome to me today.

11658. neato - 10/13/2004 1:15:53 PM

Macnas, I'd like to know how you know what piss tastes like.

11659. neato - 10/13/2004 2:15:32 PM

I love kidneys. And liver. And ox tongue. Yum yum.

11660. Magoseph - 10/13/2004 2:29:41 PM

Neato, I asked a son the same question you posed to Mac and he answered--It tastes like a bad beer. I said--did you really taste it?. Of course not, he answered, but everybody knows that a bad beer tastes like piss.

11661. Macnas - 10/13/2004 5:24:02 PM

Neato, you know the smell of piss, say stale urine from a filthy toilet perhaps? Well that's what they taste like. In my opinion anyway. But as to what piss actually tastes like, well, I assume it tastes rather like it smells, as do most things. Except petrol, that does not taste anything like it smells.

Tongue I can take or leave, it's best sliced thin for sandwiches. Liver on the other hand I'm quite fond of, especially panfried with seasoned flour coating.

Had a Reuben and fries for lunch. I still hold my heuristic is true about Reubens -- if a place has a good Reuben, it's a good place to eat in the round.

Is a sparkling chablis preferred with this dish? If prepared with sour wine, would you call it 'Old piss and vinegar'?

11664. Macnas - 10/14/2004 9:27:22 AM

Ha!

I don't know what you could have with kidneys that would make them taste any better, vinegar might mask the taste at that.

But the one thing I cannot eat at all, offal wise, is tripe.

11665. alistairconnor - 10/14/2004 10:34:53 AM

Oooh I nearly missed this one!

There is no such thing as a sparkling Chablis. (well, perhaps in New England, but then they probably make it out of dandelion roots.) But thanks for playing!

11666. alistairconnor - 10/14/2004 10:44:29 AM

With kidneys, I might recommend a Cornas or a red Hermitage. Something northern Rhone in any case.

11667. Macnas - 10/14/2004 12:59:54 PM

alistair, I'm laughing. For an hippy you are quite the wine snob.

11668. PsychProf - 10/14/2004 1:08:45 PM

Hippy's like Boones Farm...Connor is a wannabe.

11669. judithathome - 10/14/2004 4:23:02 PM

Congrats, Wonkers, to you, the family, and your lucky son!

11670. Magoseph - 10/14/2004 8:06:13 PM

I was not watching the debate last night. Instead I chose to read people--or to listen to people--who were watching it. Of course, these are people I know and whose opinion I respect. I did that by using the telephone, on-line forums, and instant messengers. I believe that I obtained a better picture of the way the debate was going than when I watched by myself. I think that approach removed the emotion of the whole affair for me and as a result, I was able to be significantly more objective in my observations.

11671. Magoseph - 10/14/2004 8:07:28 PM

So says Flexy the Expert, I should add.
