Mago--- Have you ever considered the possibility that you take things too literally?

PP --- I'm glad you didn't mention butt waxing, nor the rack.

11759. judithathome - 10/22/2004 10:05:35 PM

Zoning is established years beforehand, often as much as 30 years. I guarantee you they could have found out that Walmart was coming ~ especially if it was freeway zoning.

It isn't freeway zoning and once again, you are speaking in generalities. Thirty years ago, the property was a government military base and no one would have ever thought the base would be closing. And if you think you can guarantee that they could have found out, I'd advise you to be very careful at the racetrack.

Crossword SOS:

In what borough of London is Wimbledon Stadium?

11761. judithathome - 10/22/2004 10:33:38 PM

Never mind...it's Merton.

11762. thoughtful - 10/22/2004 11:02:09 PM

Hmmm. I've seen that one before, judithah...will shortz?

He's very good. Waits sufficient time for me to forget the answer before he reuses the clues so I get frustrated all over again.

11763. judithathome - 10/22/2004 11:05:30 PM

Yes, it's a NY Times puzzle. We get them about two weeks late in our paper.

11764. Magoseph - 10/23/2004 12:16:50 AM

Mago--- Have you ever considered the possibility that you take things too literally?

Are you kidding? I hear about that every other day, but I'm working on it.

11765. Magoseph - 10/23/2004 6:09:28 PM

Where's our friend jay these days, traveling?

11766. PelleNilsson - 10/23/2004 6:44:23 PM

Yes, in Provence presumably stuffing himself with all things Provencal. Coeur de Filet comes to mind. We used to do that for New Year's Eve but now we have switched to a variant of Sole Colbert.

11767. Magoseph - 10/23/2004 6:58:56 PM

Thank you, Pelle, I missed his post.

11768. PelleNilsson - 10/23/2004 7:15:11 PM

But on the same theme: where is Macnas?

11769. Ulgine Barrows - 10/24/2004 3:43:37 AM

Macnas is enjoying autumn, no doubt.

11739. concerned, very interesting post on the ebay feedback stuff. We are thinking of buying a Pacific drum set with Zildjian cymbals, and it looks pretty confusing.

WalMart is of the devil. Everyone that works there seems to be afraid of punishment, so can't do the common-sense thing.

They 'accused' me of stealing some $3 item return without a receipt. Yah, I run all over town returning the $3 items I've stolen. There's big money in it.

Bunch of wallheads.

Costco has Jon Stewart's "America" (nude pics of the U.S. Supreme Court), but Wal-Mart banned it.

"After ordering thousands of copies Wal-Mart has decided not to put the top-selling book in the country on its shelves because of a picutre that it said its customers might deem offensive. "America," a parody of a high school civics textbook written by Jon Stewart and others from "The Daily Show" on Comedy Central, includes a picture of nine nude figures with the heads of the U.S. Supreme Court pasted onto them. A nearby caption asks the readers to "restore their dignity" by matching each justice with his or her robe. After being made aware of the picture by the book's distributor, Wal-Mart decided to sell the book only on its Web site (Wal-Mart.com), but not in stores. karen Burk, a Wal-Mart spokesman, said the company "felt a majority of our customers may not be comfortable with that image." "America" has been the No. 1 non-fiction title on the New York Times best-seller list since it made its debut there October 10."

USAToday: Behind the robes, Stewart finds controversy

As for the photos themselves, Raab says, "I thought they were funny. ... One reviewer called it 'the most profound part of the book.' I don't know about that, but it makes some kind of comment: Who are these justices when they're stripped of their robes? They're just like all these other saggy people. ... A robe doesn't the man make — or the woman."

I guess guns displayed in Wall-Mart stores must make the man or the woman.

I have seen "repelling the terrorists" in action for the last 5 days. Bush's Air Force One was parked at the Naval Air Station-Joint Reserve base about half a mile from my house all weekend and there has been a Navy AWACS plane in the air 24/7 for two days before it got here and all day today...I'm assuming Bush left this morning to go to wherever he was making speeches today. (He's been in Crawford this weekend, I guess)

Anyhow, this plane is a prop plane and it circles the area back and forth, making sure this is restricted air space around the base. There are three of them stationed here and there is one in the air constantly when he is anywhere in this area...an hour and a half from here, actually. They are very loud. It has been constant background noise all day and all night. I keep wondering how much gas this bastard is using, flying around that long.

I understand the need for it but jesus, it is irritating.

11773. Macnas - 10/26/2004 11:57:31 AM

How do all.

I've missed the Mote for a while, and I do miss it.

I've been too busy to make time to post, as things are kind of heating up here. I've also been engaged in Dilbertian politics with a mercenary contractor who has tried to hang me high to entrench/prolong his tenure.

I've wasted a lot of time rebutting, undermining, and otherwise professionally dismantling this fool. To think, in the old days I would have just beaten the shit out of him.

Ah well, talk to yez later.

11774. Magoseph - 10/26/2004 12:05:19 PM

Hello, everyone! I'm voting this morning, around nine when there'll be no one in the town hall. Bush/Cheney signs have multiplied in this area, as Kerry/Edwards signs in others. This tells me the turn-out will be huge here too--I certainly do not want to stand in line outside as we did in 96 under a cold rain.

11775. PelleNilsson - 10/26/2004 12:15:18 PM

Nice to see you, Macnas.

11776. Magoseph - 10/26/2004 2:11:02 PM

I've missed the Mote for a while, and I do miss it.

We missed you, Mac.
