No, I am not living in the same neighborhood. I'm now in Burbank in a far better place all on my own with awesome neighbors and a sane and reasonable landlord. In fact, I'm planning a holiday party for the first part of December and I'd love to see you if you're in town. I'll let you know when I've got a definite date.

What I was really asking I was really asking for is feedback on the semantic content of the title.
You see, what I'm shooting for is something that evokes the special nature of the United States's often difficult, often politically charged relations with other American states. It's a slightly different target than a thread about "Latinos" and it is a somewhat narrower target than one about "the Americas". Does this title do the job? I dunno. After reading it a few times it seems a bit goofy.
I'm also looking for advice on how to get people talking about political corruption, immigration, oil, drugs, crime, even terrorism in this context. I thought the Cuba topic would be a good one, but I'm wondering if it is looking a bit too far forward. Should I start with something more current, more here-and-now? 11955. arkymalarky - 11/6/2004 1:24:57 AM If the title fits length-wise (as opposed to "lengthwise") it sounds great to me, and whatever you want to start off with that you think has discussion possibilities would be good, since it will morph pretty quickly to various subjects under the topic.
Speaking of which, a Mexican student (as in Mexican citizen) said there was a video of Castro's fall, but I hadn't heard of it or seen it. But this one is sort of in the middle and makes some valid points, metninks:
Fidel the enemy. Or Fidel the Hero. It really depends upon who you ask. This documentary shows a perspective not often represented by the mainstream media and i apporeciated it very much. The American media only talks about the lack of democratic elections and human rights abuses the Cuban government has committed, but it never talks about the fact that everyone in that country can read, has healthcare, no one is homeless, they're competitive with the first world in science (spec. bio-engineering) sports and the arts. This shows the other side that has been kept away from the American public. Hmmm, i wonder why? Maybe it's becuase we might start to demand universal healthcare, more money for education, affordable housing, job security, a decent retirement, safe neighborhoods...all of which this "evil" socialist country has. They may not have the democracy that we SAY they should have, but hey, we don't either! According to the American people, Gore should be president. But, according to the elitist Electoral College system, he isn't!!! Que Viva Fidel! Mabuhay ang Socialismo!!! Imperialismo Ibagsak!!!

I think Cuba is part of the Hispanic problem and should be included the framework of an Hispanic thread.

I used to post as tonysa in the Fray, and wasted (or maybe not) many happy hours of what should have been billable time, enthusing over obscure science fiction movies with mondaugen (when I wasn't baiting him over his obscure taste in music), and discussing the fine points of salvation theology marshame and Vic. Was overjoyed a couple of years ago to stumble into the Mote and find many of you still here and thriving, but the demands of parenting, a busy law practice, and teaching part time now seem to take precedence over socialising on-line. I've been lurking a bit through the election. Anyway, nice to see a lot of familiar names (and attitudes!), and if y'all have been considering emigrating north of the 49th over the last few days - you'll be welcome!
