Would someone do me a small favour. I'm having problems connecting to a particular site (in fact it's my work site). I had the same problem yesterday although other people were able to access it without any trouble.

I'm having a bit of a row with my ISP about it, and I'd be very grateful if one of you would try the link to see if it loads.

try this link

12118. judithathome - 11/18/2004 12:15:33 AM

Loaded for me.

12119. SnowOwl - 11/18/2004 12:22:21 AM

Thanks Judith. There's definitely something up with my ISP. They were having problems with international connectivity a couple of days ago, and although they say the problem has been resolved I'm still having trouble.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

12120. wonkers2 - 11/18/2004 12:30:39 AM

Works for w2.

12121. ronski - 11/18/2004 12:30:49 AM

Worked for me too.

12122. Snowowl - 11/18/2004 2:20:39 AM

Thanks all. It's still not working for me, and despite my ISP's denials I'm quite sure there's a problem with a router or something similiar.

However, I'm completely non-technical so the odds are that I'm wrong.

There are quite a few sites that I'm unable to access, but the Mote is speeding along for me today.

12123. arkymalarky - 11/18/2004 2:22:12 AM

I couldn't get into anything but the Mote yesterday and I finally restored to a couple of weeks earlier and it seems to be fine now.

12124. Snowowl - 11/18/2004 2:38:56 AM

It's very odd. Now the Mote appears to be about the only site I can get in to, and that's really flying for me.

12125. Absensia - 11/18/2004 3:54:11 AM

Snow, works for me, too.

As for as the Mote, I'm having time problems. I had to set the time to -10 gr, though I am -8. And it's not an issue of the clock going back to standard time. hmmm, not sure what is happening. Maybe it's my brain!

12126. Snowowl - 11/18/2004 5:03:55 AM

Thanks, Abs. I've just heard from my boss. He's arrived back in Dunedin and is now using the same ISP as me. He's also having problems, so perhaps we can convince them that it is them, not us!

Does the Mote clock run on GMT or is it NZ time? We're into daylight savings now, and that might be making a difference (says she who knows nothing and doesn't even notice the time stamsp).

12127. Absensia - 11/18/2004 5:16:06 AM

It says + or - GMT, and that worked before, but who knows.

Glad you have your problem confirmed, Snow. Getting ready for the holidays? You will have visitors, right?

12128. Snowowl - 11/18/2004 5:31:57 AM

Not until the New Year, Abs. The Swedes are arriving on January 3, so we're delaying our major Christmas celebration until then. We'll just have a small thing on Christmas Day - we might even go to a pub for our dinner. The Aussies are coming over at the same time, but they'll be here for a weekend next month as well.

And we've had the lovely news that our Aussie kids are expecting! At least this one is going to be close enough to home so that we'll be able to see him/her fairly regularly.

In fact, there's a bit of a price war going on with the airlines here at present and they're saying that we'll be able to get tickets to Oz for $1 after Christmas (they want bums on seats). I'll be able to hop over there every weekend if I want.

12129. arkymalarky - 11/18/2004 5:47:27 AM

Wow, congrats Snow!

I notice time stamps when I log on and I'm trying to figure out where I left off the day before. I set to -8 today and it's right, at least for now.

12130. Absensia - 11/18/2004 7:37:34 AM

Wonderful news, Snow!!! And $1.00 tickets of Oz is amazing as well.

Arkey, if you are now at -8, then -10 for me works.

12131. alistairconnor - 11/18/2004 3:53:07 PM

It's very odd. Now the Mote appears to be about the only site I can get in to, and that's really flying for me.

... you realise, Snow, that the server's in Nelson?

12132. alistairconnor - 11/18/2004 4:01:57 PM

Which sort of explains the time-stamp funnies : it's accurate when NZ is on winter time. I need to work out a Perl one-liner to correct that.

It's been on my to-do list for about five years now.

12133. alistairconnor - 11/18/2004 4:07:39 PM

Congrats on the family news, Snow!

I saw a German program on TV the other night, "Is Europe dying?" -- all about declining demographics. Of the countries discussed, the only two which get near to sustaining their populations are France and Sweden. Extensive social engineering. Fecundity correlates strongly with women's participation in the work force. Which is sort of counter-intuitive. Until you consider the real reason : fecundity correlates strongly with freedom and happiness of women.

12134. Magoseph - 11/18/2004 8:27:02 PM

...fecundity correlates strongly with freedom and happiness of women.

Sure does, that's why my sons are ten years apart in ages.

Good afternoon, everyone. It was nice to read about Snow's family plans and see that Abs still likes us.

Now, I'm on a buying binge and I want some advice. Do you think this bedding is somewhat too much, too outrageous? My husband looked at it and all he could say was--it matches your hair and goes well with the furniture.

12135. judithathome - 11/18/2004 8:32:37 PM

I think it's great...I'm sure the thread count on the sheets is 350, too, right?

12136. Magoseph - 11/18/2004 8:38:20 PM

Thead count? Oh, goodness, is that important to check and why?
