Who knows?

12196. arkymalarky - 11/21/2004 2:11:28 AM

Hey Christi!

Great going, Lil D!

12197. christipeters - 11/21/2004 5:13:31 AM

Hey Arky!

12198. OhioSTOPAS - 11/21/2004 2:14:14 PM

Good to hear from you, Christi! Don't let the layoff get you down. Good people get laid off for reasons beyond their control and unrelated to their job performance, and everyone knows that.

And your daughter sounds terrific, as always! (I also happen to be the proud parent of a remarkable, accomplished 16-year-old girl!)

12199. Magoseph - 11/21/2004 2:55:00 PM

Great, Ohio, but can we know more about her? I did not have terrific teenagers, but somehow they turned into responsible adults, rather successful in their careers and quite able to deal with occasional vicissitudes.

12200. christipeters - 11/21/2004 3:20:11 PM

Ohio - Thanks. I was stunned at first, but now I'm kinda relieved and enjoying having options. I got a great severence package and I know it wasn't anything about me. The company gutted the whole division. So obviously it's just a change in business strategy.

I echo Magoseph - do tell us about your girl. After all talking about our wonderful kids is a parent's favorite pastime.

12201. thoughtful - 11/21/2004 4:52:57 PM

Christip! Welcome back! So sorry to hear about the layoff though. That sucks.

I can't believe lil'd is 16 already! Yikes!

Good to have you back and hope you keep frequenting the joint.

Thanks all for the kind words about my room redo. The critters on the bed are also souvenirs from trips...the bunny is Balboa Bunny, remembrance of our trip to san diego and the otter is named potter, a remembrance of our trip to FL nature reserve where we lucked out and canoed by a couple of river otters...most exciting!

Re dust, well, I guess I just live with a lot of it. Especially in the winter when we have the wood stove going, we get ash dust everywhere. Very messy.

The froufrou stuff though is all quite washable. The way I do the flower arrangements is simply to fill the sink with cold water with a little bit of soap in it and turn the arrangement upside down and swosh. Then i rinse off the soap with the sink sprayer and place them outside to dry. Since I've made the arrangements myself, I anchor them so they can be turned. Rarely have i had problems with any of the blossoms...occasionally the glue on the back of a leaf will let go and I just reglue it.

Luckily for us our teen (about to be a non-teen Thursday when she turns 20) was a much better teen than either of us. Bob and I were awful. Mose has come with a few bumps, but very few and very minor.

Great to see the Cafe hopping. I hope it continues--it fits a holiday mood. After I finish this paper I hope to have more leisure time for Moting than I have in a long, long while--3 or 4 years. I'm certain to after the regular state legislative session ends, hopefully by the end of February.

12204. PelleNilsson - 11/21/2004 9:09:49 PM

You mean you have artificial flowers, thoughtful?

12205. Dubai Vol - 11/21/2004 9:38:14 PM

I'm sure a few of you have seen me around here and there, but I've been lurking more than posting for a while. I just stopped in here to say how impressed I am with the community you all have built here on the Mote. A bunch of nice folks, and a good place to visit. Happy holidays to you all, and expect to see a kinder, gentler side of me around these parts. Guess I'm getting too old to be an angry young man ALL the time....

12206. arkymalarky - 11/21/2004 9:43:37 PM

Hey Dubai! Please come by more often!

You need to talk to my husband Bob. He's becoming an angry old (53) man.

12207. PelleNilsson - 11/21/2004 10:25:09 PM

Hello Dubai! Nice to see you again.

12208. thoughtful - 11/22/2004 3:47:47 AM

pelle, artificial flowers? No, of course not. I'd never stoop to something so crass. I have 'everlasting' flowers! I even admit to using 'everlasting' plants in some areas of the house too where watering would be most inconvenient...on top of book cases and such... and/or where there's not enough light to keep real plants alive. Though I do have real plants and flowers as well. (In fact Phil the phaelanopsis is getting ready to bloom again!)

I have a hanging 'everlasting' plant in my office that must look pretty realistic as the plant man came by and was ready to water it before he realized it was fake.

12209. Ms. No - 11/22/2004 6:51:15 AM

Arky,

That would've been my Mamaw's birthday as well -- it seems to fall on Thanksgiving more years than not. Does Mose get a cake and a celebration even when it's on T-Day? Give her my felicitations!

12210. Ms. No - 11/22/2004 6:54:43 AM

Dubai,

Be an angry young man as long as you like. The alternative is crotchety and who wants to be that? Maybe when I'm 80 I'll take pleasure in scaring the neighbor kids off my grass just for the hell of it, for now, I refuse to grow up.

12211. Magoseph - 11/22/2004 3:28:21 PM

Welcome back, Dubai--I agree with Ms. No, don't change too much. I have bouts of being feisty around here from time to me, usually if Kuli or Concerned provoke me. Now, Kuli takes the fun out of my outbursts--he just tells me to take a nap, or my meds.

Photographers, check out The Good Life. Christi, I sent e-mails to both my sons that requested they sent me pictures resized 640x480.

I'm certain to after the regular state legislative session ends, hopefully by the end of February.

Arky, that's a long time.

12212. Jenerator - 11/22/2004 4:13:34 PM

Hi Dubai, good to see you again!

And YOU, Christi!!! Congratulations on having such a talented child, I wish she was one of my students (we yearn for kids like her!)

12213. Magoseph - 11/22/2004 5:14:00 PM

Now, I wonder what's happening with Neato and Anomie.

Where is Mac this morning? Every morning at my coffee hang-out, the usual frequenters of the place are asking each other the same questions--Where is So-and So, and what about Smith and Jones--isn't about time we check on them?

It's easy to do that here, but in our Mote cafe, we have to wait until they show up. Yeah, well, all I can hope is that they will be lurking in here one of these days.

12214. Magoseph - 11/22/2004 8:55:53 PM

Anybody wants to post their Thanksgiving's plans, so the rest of us know what you're up to?
