Hey, it was one year ago today that I broke my leg.

I celebrated by going out and doing all my shopping for gifts!

12469. arkymalarky - 12/3/2004 2:24:41 AM

Hard to believe a year has alredy gone by since then. This semester has flown by too, and I can't believe the year's almost half over. Not that I'm complaining about that.

12470. arkymalarky - 12/3/2004 2:25:03 AM

The school year, that is.

12471. christipeters - 12/3/2004 7:56:36 AM

Oh! I loved visiting with Klaus!

You and Keoni were nice too, Judith

12320. wonkers2, how interesting about the Dylan thing. I'd like to see the Gehry building, too.
I saw an old TV interview featuring a very young Dylan. Just a few weeks ago for me, perhaps 40 ago for Dylan.
He was saying something like, "There is a certain sort of person who reads Time magazine" and I can't quote it exactly, but I winced internally because I never thought I'd grow up to read Time. That Dylan kid barely had whiskers on his face and he came out of the TV at me - wonderful.

I'm going to put mulch on my banana tree tomorrow. That is more important than cleaning carpet stains, don't you think? Those people we had for Thanksgiving? I'm still cleaning up after the piglets.

My mother-in-law was purring all through dinner, all through dessert. She has been very sick, so it was cozy.

That *ist camera didn't show up in time for the happy crowd, so I bought a cute little Panasonic Lumix, instead.

Jen,

It's not really that cold. The problem is that in my part of the country there's very often little to differentiate between summer and winter. It is much warmer further north in the country.

12474. Dubai Vol - 12/3/2004 2:16:47 PM

At least you have the option of turning on the heat. I Dubai they just don;t even install heating, which is stupid if you know anything about heat pumps. SO in winter everybody has to buy thos little space heaters. Of course you only use them a few days, this morning it was 75 degrees at dawn. And I swear to you, a couple more derees and gas station attendants will break out the leather jackets and furry hats with ear flaps. Brr, it's 70 degrees! Meanwhile the Germans are on the beach getting a tan on the lounge chairs they put their towels on at 6AM....

12475. PelleNilsson - 12/3/2004 4:51:55 PM

Hahaha! Yes, I recall that in Beirut, when the temperature crept down to 65 or so, the wives of the noveaux riche took the opportunity to put on their mink coats.

Ulgine, 40 years ago Time Magazine, edited by Henry Luce, was considerably more right wing than it is today. In the presidential election campaign between Eisenhower and Stevenson, Time published a picture of Adlai picking his nose alongside a picture of an attractive, smiling Ike.

There is a fascinating op-ed in today's NYT about Bob Dylan's hit "Like a Rolling Stone," recently named the greatest rock'n roll song of all time. Columbia Records recorded the song but shelved it because the sales people thought 6 minutes was too long and they didn't dig "raucous rock'n roll." Dylan refused their request to cut it to 3 minutes which Columbia apparently figured was the average listener attention span, and the song nearly was never published. Two years earlier, Dylan had failed to persuade Columbia to release his "Talkin' John Birch Society Blues." The Hit We Almost Missed

Hello, everyone!

In the early morning yesterday, I drove a wheelchair-equipped van to the hospital in the next town and came back driving a Mercedes, both vehicles for the first time. I was scared both ways. I spent much time in the afternoon consoling a relative who just found that her husband is involved with cyber-sex. During this time, Flexy was busy with another property closing and was blissfully unawares of my activities. When I finally told him about those exciting events, he laughed about my rendition of them, that is, until he found out who was involved with cyber-sex.

12479. judithathome - 12/3/2004 5:53:08 PM

Gosh, "cyber sex" even sounds uncomfortable!

Speaking of which, I'm off to the gym, an uncomfortable situation in itself.

12480. Ms. No - 12/3/2004 6:05:20 PM

Mago,

Oh, that's so sad. What a horrible thing to find out your lover has betrayed you. Has it been just random cybering or has he got one specific person? Either is bad but at least if he's just out trolling for anonymous sex he hasn't fallen in love with someone else.

I was reading an interview with the cast of the new film "Closer" yesterday and they mentioned something about how one of the relationships begins though internet chat. The actors were all talking about how most of them had ever engaged in such things --- they all have email but none of them visit discussion sites or chat or anything - and the general consensus was that people who do are just weirdos.

I'm not sure now where I was going with this. I'll have to post, then see if it still makes sense and if I had any actual point to make. ;->

12481. Magoseph - 12/3/2004 6:29:37 PM

Has it been just random cybering or has he got one specific person?

One specific person, Ms. No, during the last two years--the relative read an e-mail left by accident on the screen. Therefore, she proceeded to find out about the relationship and since she is an expert in computers, she found out plenty. She wanted to talk to Flexy, but finally confided in me when I asked her if I could help. I must tell you that my first reaction to all this was merriment—we are talking here about an extremely religious couple who has made a point of honor to convert Flexy over the years.

12482. Ms. No - 12/3/2004 7:07:36 PM

I can empathise with your glee as well as your concern. One specific person is the worst kind excepting face to face meetings. I think it's somewhat telling that she would discover such a thing and not ask about it immediately but wait more than a year snooping while allowing the adulterous relationship to grow.

12483. Magoseph - 12/3/2004 8:52:26 PM

She found the records of the relationship on the hard drive this week--he had left an e-mail on the screen. She immediately confronted him and he is properly penitent. Understandably, she feels hurt, betrayed, and very angry. She wants to know how to deal with the situation and save her marriage. There are three teenagers in the family.

I told her to approach their church's counseling services and Flexy did the same. The husband refuses to do this, because he is afraid the incident may be become general knowledge somehow—their standing in the community is at stake, he says.

12484. PelleNilsson - 12/3/2004 8:58:28 PM

Hahaha! This is true American soap. Please keep us updated.

12485. thoughtful - 12/3/2004 9:01:57 PM

so let me get this straight...he's been having a virtual affair with this woman he's never met in person? I mean they never have had sex, right? Never even shook hands, right?

12486. thoughtful - 12/3/2004 9:03:20 PM

or did she find the e-mails and these two have met in real life and carried on for real...

12487. Magoseph - 12/3/2004 9:06:16 PM

Never, Ms. No, did they meet. Now I feel very bad that I found the incident funny at first. She is a very nice person, very proper and very shy--It was hard for her to explain the situation. She said that the e-mails were about doing things to each other in rather strong descriptive terms.
