Hello Mago.

No problems, other than being house-bound yesterday. It is after easing off now, but some parts lost power for a while. Other than that, just much rain and very high winds.

13135. PelleNilsson - 1/10/2005 11:11:13 AM

The southern third of Sweden was badly hit. 400,000 households without power, roofs coming off houses, no train traffic south of Stockholm, seven dead in various storm-related accidents. In addition four nuclear reactors had to close down because of salt accumulation on the transmission gear. Luckily it was Sunday so the national network could still sustain the load.

13136. Macnas - 1/10/2005 11:35:56 AM

That bad? Jaysus, we got off lightly then.

13137. alistairconnor - 1/10/2005 1:26:24 PM

Awww. And we missed out completely Down Here.

Absolutely splendid weekend. Sunny, sometimes even warm. Had lunch on the terrace yesterday.

13138. Macnas - 1/10/2005 1:32:57 PM

I couldn't open the bloody door yesterday.

13139. Ms. No - 1/10/2005 7:43:41 PM

The rain continues to fall here --- as does the hillside next to our office building. The mudslide has completely barricaded the dumpsters - 3.5 feet deep. Fortunately we got some sandbags out last Friday to sort of keep things in check otherwise the front door of the building would be inaccessible. As it stands the sandbag barricade got shoved a good 8 feet by the mudslide and it's only going to get worse since it's supposed to keep pouring through Thursday.

We need the water, but not all at once. There's nowhere for it to go. All the canyons are closed, most of the freeways have serious flooding, the train tracks for the metro system are washed out in two places and hillsides and homes are collapsing all over the place.

It's warmer in the last couple of days than it has been, though. That's a welcome respite.

Our weather is making the news in Wisconsin. That's pathetic. Wisconsin has real weather. If we were used to any kind of weather at all we'd be better prepared for the rain. Granted, there's an awful lot of it. We're some 15 inches over our annual total and it's only the second week of January, but it's still just rain.

13141. Max Macks - 1/10/2005 10:02:47 PM

Gosh, Pelle,

and I never heard anything about that storm
in Sweden.
I dont watch the TV news very often but have been
lately to follow some of the news about
that wave of death as I call the tsunami

I dont think that storm in Sweden was in our TV news.
not the storm of course , but news about it !!

13142. PelleNilsson - 1/10/2005 10:20:46 PM

Sweden does not generally generate a lot of news in the US unless it concerns some novel and exciting form of sexuality or socialist policy. In any case the trouble caused here fades compared to the tsunami, or for that matter, the hurricanes regularly hitting Florida and Texas.

13143. Max Macks - 1/10/2005 11:08:55 PM

Pelle I thought you lived in Denmark

I saw on the news that many Swedes go to Tailand
in the winter.
and this year some who went will not get home to Sweden.

13144. alistairConnor - 1/10/2005 11:12:58 PM

Hey that's impressive weather Nyetskaya

If it keeps up, you won't need no friggin earthquake -- california will just wash off into the Pacific.

13145. alistairConnor - 1/10/2005 11:13:45 PM

Similar weather in New Zealand I hear - I hope summer starts before I get there in a month.

13146. Magoseph - 1/11/2005 1:04:08 AM

This may interests you, Arky

13147. arkymalarky - 1/11/2005 1:27:56 AM

Thanks Mags! I've been noticing that story, and I hope it weakens NCLB--some of the stinkiest snake oil the Bush admin has managed to pawn off on us.

13148. arkymalarky - 1/11/2005 1:28:56 AM

I hate hearing about all the weather extremes everyone's going through right now. Ours is hot/cold, warm/dry, but not stormy. It will get floody if it keeps up, but not like CA.

13149. Max Macks - 1/11/2005 1:58:21 AM

Wow because I dont watch the TV news very much

I knew LA was getting some heavy rains
and snow in the Grapevine but I had no idea
there was that much rain down your way Ms. No.

Wow sand bags in LA . I think of them
in towns along the Mississippi in the spring not
sunny LA

13150. Macnas - 1/11/2005 10:24:00 AM

More storms here. Wind is picking up to 60mph, will reach 80 later, lots of rain already.

Up in the Northwest it's going to hit 100 mph.

13151. Macnas - 1/11/2005 11:57:17 AM

Holy shit, I think my office is about to take off.

If there were hatches, I'd be battening them down right now.

13152. PelleNilsson - 1/11/2005 12:14:48 PM

That storm is expected here this night or tomorrow but it will probably hit the north of the country where it will cause less damage than the last one. There might be problems in Norway, though. They have already closed some oil platforms.

13153. Macnas - 1/11/2005 12:29:32 PM

It's very changeable right now, but when the wind starts gusting it is all but impossible to go outside. Constant rain though, as if it isn't miserable enough.
