Smut, Volvo's and Abba.

Mac, explain what does that mean, please.

13187. wonkers2 - 1/12/2005 8:06:57 PM

Volvos, Abba and Pelle all come from Sweden??

13188. PelleNilsson - 1/12/2005 8:58:44 PM

IKEA and Hives too. And Absolute.

13189. thoughtful - 1/12/2005 9:11:59 PM

and Gevalia

Well, just got my phone bill and I called them (SBC) to see if I could get a better rate on my DSL service. They are charging me $26.00 a month for use and are advertising a $19.95 rate on TV for new customers. I tried the old "but I've been paying you for years; don't I deserve a little bonus?" and then they explained that in order to qualify for the new rate, I had to sign on for all this garbage on my residential phone including conference calling, caller ID, unlimited long distance, call waiting...and god only knows what else.

And all THAT plus the new lower rate on DSL will cost me ONLY $75.00 a month plus local and state taxes and "usage fees". I told them I had a foolproof caller ID already which is to pick up the phone and say hello.

What utter garbage. Yes, we'll give you this superduper rate if only you agree to having all this crap you don't need and never use.

You know about Gevalia, thoughtful? Amazing.

13192. thoughtful - 1/12/2005 10:06:11 PM

I used to buy gevalia on a regular basis...still have the cannister and mugs they gave me. Coffee is incredibly smooth and delicious. I got tired of the auto delivery thing and never seemed to get it quite right. Also the stuff was frightfully expensive. So I gave it up. I've since cut way back on coffee drinking anyway, but still remember that smooth taste.

13193. thoughtful - 1/12/2005 10:08:41 PM

Don't know if they still are, but at one point they were owned by the same folks who make maxwell house coffee...hard to believe!

13194. judithathome - 1/12/2005 10:36:34 PM

I just ordered some Gevalia to get a free programmable coffe maker. I have several of those jars, too...they are great for storage of coffee.

13195. thoughtful - 1/12/2005 11:23:21 PM

Funny thing...when i switched off gevalia, i went to buying dunkin' donuts coffee and it was not quite as good as gevalia, but it was good. Then all of a sudden the d d coffee deteriorated. I happened to be at school with a fellow who was involved in the specialty coffee business. His bud was the coffee mixer at d d and he told me his bud recently changed jobs. Amazing the impact it had on their product quality.

I have to check all this. Gevalia owned Maxwell house? Are we talking about the same Gevalia? The family owned coffe rostery (is that a word)? in a small town 200 km north of Stockholm? But it's almost 11 pm here so it will have to wait.

13197. Jenerator - 1/12/2005 11:50:50 PM

Judith,

Did you select the white or the black coffee maker? I got the same offer in the mail.

Pelle,

I heard that Gevalia used Arabica beans?

If any of you want to know more about quality coffee, try this website. I use a different name that shall remain a secret at this time.

;-)

13198. judithathome - 1/12/2005 11:59:50 PM

I got the black one!

13199. Jenerator - 1/13/2005 12:02:48 AM

Cool!

It is a good deal for the money.

I desperately want a new espresso maker but my husband would kill me if I spent $900 on the one I want.

13200. wonkers2 - 1/13/2005 12:40:24 AM

Who would blame him? In Michigan that would be grounds for divorce or provocation to inflict deadly harm!

13201. alistairConnor - 1/13/2005 12:46:00 AM

In Texas, they drink Swedish coffee?

I didn't even know they grew coffee beans in Sweden.

13202. Jenerator - 1/13/2005 1:15:23 AM

I get my coffee from various places - it depends on what I am in the mood for and how much I want to spend.

I suspect Gevalia is just the mother company and that it orders beans from other suppliers. Sweden would produce the grosset beans if allowed to- but the climate makes it impossible.

Hi, Arky, how is the editing coming along?

13204. arkymalarky - 1/13/2005 4:14:02 AM

Hey Mags! I think it's going well. I sent a page to the people who are working on it to make sure I'm heading the right direction, and I hope to finish next week. Hopefully I'll hear a good word back from them tomorrow and can go forward from there.
