Try Community New Orleans Blend, cher!

Hello, Judith and Arky! ...

Judith, I laughed about the concept of a wooden submarine when I read your last post. I guess the concept didn't work cause the damn thing kept floating.

The best coffee I've had so far, using my nice new kettle, is some of the Fair Trade stuff. And it's a bit of a kick in the stones to Nestle as well.

This is the time when various institutes announce whhich courses they are going to run. They span over a wide range from carpenry to crystal healing. Some are very odd. I thought I had seen it all but ask myself: who is attracted to a one-week course in fish skin tanning?

13273. alistairconnor - 1/14/2005 1:05:14 PM

Pliddicly correct eh... Ah I'm afraid I'm going to have to one-up you there Mac.

For the last few years, I've drunk mostly Cafe Organico, from Mexico -- I've tried various other organic ones, but I keep coming back to it.

It's not only organic and fair-trade, it comes from Indian peasants in the Chiapas.

AND most importantly, it's the best coffee I've ever had.

It helps that I've got a halfway decent machine -- a low-end Saeco (it's developed a leak, I've no idea how to get it serviced because I cleverly bought it off the internet)

It's got a clever system for cappucino -- sucks up the milk through a tube and spits out as foam. Works really well, and doesn't require any skill like the real thing.

Think of all the novel Christmas gifts you could make out of fish leather.

For the awkward relative who has everything... a codskin codpiece?

13276. Macnas - 1/14/2005 1:15:13 PM

I'd like to do a wiring course, I'm ashamed to say I can draw up diagrams and control schematics but am crap at actually wiring anything up.

13277. Macnas - 1/14/2005 1:17:30 PM

WRT the Fair Trade coffee, my brother recommended it. It's a bit more costly but it is very good.

Hi, Mac--one degree Fahrenheit here now--wind-chill temperature: -15. We prepared for it yesterday anticipating the whole weekend home. How is the weather over there?

13279. Macnas - 1/14/2005 1:29:31 PM

Mild, not much wind at the moment, a bit misty.

Christ on a bike, but that sounds cold Mago. From about -17 to -26 deg.c!

13280. Magoseph - 1/14/2005 1:40:17 PM

It is rather cold for you too, unless I did not convert your temperature correctly, Mac.

13281. Macnas - 1/14/2005 2:01:37 PM

No no Mago, it is a very mild 10 deg.c here.

The -17 to -26deg.c figures are your own deg.f converted.

13282. Magoseph - 1/14/2005 2:29:24 PM

Oh, I see, well, it would be springtime here. I can’t wait for that type of weather. My husband predicts a February as bad as it used to be, very cold and icy roads. I suggested a trip down south--I mean, visiting my younger son and Judith would be nice for example, I said. Naturally, all kind of very acceptable excuses came up. Oh, well, I understand that his health and proximity to his doctor are of primary importance for him nowadays, and I certainly do not want to leave him alone in this place. His kids and my son (who lives not far from here) are much too busy to look after him. I would never forgive myself if something happened to him while I was having a good time in Texas.

So, are you planning an outing for this weekend?

13283. Macnas - 1/14/2005 2:55:20 PM

We'll see how the weather goes, I might take the kids into town if it's too wet to go anywhere else.

13284. Magoseph - 1/14/2005 3:27:08 PM

Mac, thank you for answering me--I really should not take your time answering my nonsensical morning conversation when there are more interesting topics in the other threads.

Have a very good weekend!

13285. thoughtful - 1/14/2005 3:34:02 PM

apology accepted, wonks

13286. Macnas - 1/14/2005 3:53:19 PM

Mago, if I lived on your road, or saw you every morning having coffee in town, I'd enjoy talking to you even more than I do in here.

13287. thoughtful - 1/14/2005 4:07:50 PM

We are having wild weather here. I usually walk after breakfast but one look at the radar suggested that was not a good idea. So I walked first and got in just before it started pouring. Temp this a.m. was 54F. By this p.m. it's supposed to be snowing and down near 20F tonight.

And last night's drive home was the absolute foggiest I've ever seen it. Warm air hitting cold snow fields generated such dense fog I was luck if I could see a foot or 2 in front of the fender all the way home. Yikes!

13288. judithathome - 1/14/2005 4:27:23 PM

who is attracted to a one-week course in fish skin tanning?

The artsy-fartsy crowd...they've been showing a lot of "decor" ideas using tanned fish skin. Collages, gift boxes, faux book covers. The ideas are limitless.
