Thanks, Mac--I'm going to see what I can do. I suppose you'll be soon going home--have a great weekend!

15444. arkymalarky - 6/10/2005 6:18:59 PM

Good luck on the job situation, Ulgine. Sounds a bit scary but potentially very exciting.

15445. arkymalarky - 6/10/2005 6:20:15 PM

Dadgum, Judith! What are you supposed to do until Tuesday? What do they have to do to find out?

15446. judithathome - 6/10/2005 11:24:40 PM

The doctor said if it WAS a clot, he'd start me on blood thinners. I'll know more after the sonogram. It's very painful but after talking to my neighbor who has had many instances of this over 15 years, I don't really think it's a clot. She told me if it were, it should be red and swollen and hot to the touch and it's none of those things. Which I why I think the doctor was not too upset about it.

My mom died of a blood clot from hip surgery so he knows I'm rather skittish hearing those words, much less thinking I might have one. He gave me some pain meds and told me to rest it elevated a bit and not to do anything strenuous til we get the test results done. It was sill hurting this morning but not as much...later in the day it started hurting more, though.

I'm anxious to hear how things go Tuesday. Do you think you'll find out that day?

15448. judithathome - 6/11/2005 12:41:53 AM

I expect if it's a blood clot, they will know pretty quickly. And let the doctor know pretty quickly and he will call me pretty quickly. ;-)

15449. Ulgine Barrows - 6/12/2005 8:12:08 AM

Why do you have to wait until Tuesday?

That seems far off.

15450. Ulgine Barrows - 6/12/2005 8:17:59 AM

Thank you all for your encouragement...for perhaps a bad decision....but I can't take this job anymore.

I can't relocate. I'd love to live on either coast, but my husband has his family here midwestern, and when I moved back, I gave up rights I didn't realize I had. If I move now, I'll lose day-to-day contact with my son. No can do.

And the thing that pisses me off so much about it, my husband is all wonky-wonk about being an 'artiste' and he just DOES NOT GET IT that the environment that one lives in, gives inspiration. Both of us had best creativity when we lived near the ocean.

And I think one of the best things we could give our son would be, a beautiful environment to grow up in.

Husband just likes getting spiffed with his brothers here in levelland.

And how sad is this: we've talked about what we'd do if the other died.

Maybe that's not sad, we might actually like each other.

I want to kick him to kingdom come at the moment, though.

Baahhh humbug. Marriage!

15452. Ulgine Barrows - 6/12/2005 8:38:38 AM

And in other news, I have taught myself to set tile with mastic and lay grout, and wiggle that crap into the windows (glazing something or other) in prep for selling this house.

15453. Ulgine Barrows - 6/12/2005 9:08:04 AM

Maybe I can sell off my CD collection, I made good money in the 80s/90s and bought lots of imports & one-offs.

I looked up one CD on amazon, it's $60 used now. ebay says minimum bid .99 but that's starting.

15454. thoughtful - 6/12/2005 3:03:21 PM

Judithah, sorry to hear about the potential clot. Sure hope they figure it out fast and get to a conclusion right away.

Ulgine, hang tough. Life is too short to spend your days in a job that's not fun. Something will open up soon. Don't rely on the papers so much but get your networking going...that's where the real jobs come from.

15455. Magoseph - 6/13/2005 2:53:21 PM

Hello, Mac and everyone! What’s going on with you? Finally, the birds are back on our property. Apparently, the smell the harrier hawks left is gone. After my morning walk, I sit on the front stairs and whistle back to them

15456. thoughtful - 6/13/2005 9:18:46 PM

any advice to someone who has to give an after dinner speech?

I know...make it like a woman's dress....long enough to cover the important points, but short enough to make it interesting.

15457. Magoseph - 6/13/2005 9:22:17 PM

It depends on the dinner guests--tell us more about that.

15458. Ms. No - 6/13/2005 9:27:06 PM

Avoid carbonated drinks, overeating or eating anything that will give you heartburn. You don't want to burp during your speech.

15459. arkymalarky - 6/14/2005 1:27:31 AM

Start with humor.

15460. Macnas - 6/14/2005 10:41:51 AM

Do not shout or pound the podium with your fist.

15461. PelleNilsson - 6/14/2005 11:00:15 AM

And not with your shoe either.

15462. Macnas - 6/14/2005 11:32:30 AM

ah ha ha, Nikita had style.
