Awww, can't you go and just not catch anything?

15823. Macnas - 7/14/2005 4:24:01 PM

It's depressing enough when I know there are fish in the river and I can't catch them, never mind when there are no fish.

15824. wabbit - 7/14/2005 4:24:17 PM

I'm waiting for the usual mid-day thundershower here in the Catskills. My sister is still shovelling out from the mess left by Dennis. It could have been worse -- my brother-in-law swam down the street to their house on Saturday after the rain stopped. They had about a foot of water on the first floor, but otherwise things looked good. Everyone was safe and the plants will recover.

This will be the third day of 100+ weather for us and it's very humid for Los Angeles. May have to drive up the coast to the beach this weekend. I haven't been in ages.

15826. arkymalarky - 7/14/2005 6:54:49 PM

My lands, people are having the weather this summer. That's good news for your sister, Wabbit.

Flexy asked me today why I didn’t listen to The Marseillaise today—well, I hadn’t because I didn’t realize that it is July 14. Jexster had a link of Mireille Mathieu, which I keep religiously, and I put it on full blast and, guess what, I had to stand while it played, just as I did when I was a child.

Liberte!

jayackroyd, if I was to buy a lime in your neighborhood, what would it set me back?

15829. Magoseph - 7/15/2005 4:10:10 PM

Mac, any fishing in store for you this weed end?

15830. Macnas - 7/15/2005 4:24:36 PM

Nope, no water, no sea trout.

15831. Magoseph - 7/15/2005 4:29:30 PM

You have a drought, there like in France?

Flexy saw this morning how important it is to be able to make a dog heel when the situation demands it. He had two encounters with three leashed dogs that went berserk when he went by them with our Butch who was extremely angry straining to get away from him. When he came back, he warned me to be careful when I walk pass these houses. I told him that I have this type of situation completely under control. He was unbelieving, so we went out with me leading the dog, and, naturally, the three dogs barked crazily at Butch while he last totally ignored them. Men can be so certain that only they can do the right thing--it really boggles the mind sometimes.

Does your wife have this kind of problems, Mac?

15832. thoughtful - 7/15/2005 4:34:33 PM

Mags that's very cool to know that it works.

15833. Magoseph - 7/15/2005 4:42:51 PM

thoughtful, I learned that by reading the link you provided--thanks to you I was able to show off to Flexy.

15834. Macnas - 7/15/2005 4:47:03 PM

My wife brooks no disobedience from dogs. Once the dog knows who is who, it took commands from both of us. We just make sure we use the same command and tone, so the dog knows what's being asked of it.

As for a drought, we are at the start of one to be sure. But it would not take a drought for the level of water in the river to be too low for sea trout to move up stream, which is the case at the moment.

15835. Magoseph - 7/15/2005 4:55:16 PM

...same command and tone, so the dog knows what's being asked of it.

Another good advice from you, Mac--we're going to work on that now.

Have a nice weekend!

Hi Mago. and Mrs. No.

temps up here in the Bay Area climbed to almost 75 F yesterday !! but then cooled to about 60 F so
as uusual one sleeps under down comforters and or blankets.

I have lived where the humdity can be a high as the temp.
not at all comfortable.

wabbit , I'm back in the Mote to follow your
coverage of the bicycle race.
Amazing that Armstrong could maybe win again.

15837. Ms. No - 7/15/2005 7:19:30 PM

Max,

I envy you the Bay Area weather but not the rents...although I suppose they're not that much higher than Los Angeles and if one lives in the City proper then transportation is much easier than here.

15838. The Summer Woman - 7/15/2005 9:17:01 PM

Mago - Sorry I haven't been around much of late. The novelty of Demonizing Religions has finally worn off so there are far fewer posts to read (and whole new subjects to learn!) so I will try to make it over here more often.

15839. Magoseph - 7/15/2005 10:18:46 PM

I am very pleased that you are thinking of us, Summer. Thank you for taking the time to visit the Café.

I got to see some fireworks over the last couple of nights. Not on purpose...

Municipalities do their fireworks either on the 13th or the 14th. On the 13th I was at the Roman theatre in Vienne, at the last concert in the jazz festival (Brazil -- fabulous) We were sitting higher up than usual, having got there a bit late, and we had a splendid view of the town and also quite a long way up the Rhone valley towards Lyon. As the sun set (long concert : started at 8.30, hadn't finished when we left at 3.30 am) the fireworks started, at various sites in the middle distance.

Yesterday we (me and the daughters) did an overnight pony trek. I drove the van to a suitable site, came back by bicycle, and we set out in late afternoon (very hot!) and arrived around sunset. The chosen site is near some radio/TV masts, and dominates the whole Saint Etienne urban region. We heard lots of rumblings and bangs, spooked the ponies a bit -- thought it was a storm coming, but no, lots more fireworks.

Very pretty.

15841. Ulgine Barrows - 7/16/2005 7:06:23 AM

Saint Etienne is an urban region? I thought they were a band, I have their 1991 recording, "Foxbase Alpha". Favorite tracks are

stoned to say the least

Etienne gonna die

only love can break your heart
