Oh and Jen? Why shouldn't I run for council? It's a small village, not the city. I am very familiar with and liked by 70% of the population and am very familiar with all the ordinances and regulations of the place.

Are you advising against it because of the small mindedness of small towns? That IS one disturbing factor, I'll grant that.

Arky,

Quite a spread on Little Rock in today's Houston Chronicle.

The market district wasn't quite this lively when we were through there on an early spring afternoon but it was thoroughly pleasant. Enjoyed the library very much. A bright and airy place staffed by shiny, happy people. And a nice lunch spot.

ALD's my homepage at work, Wonk, and has been for years. It's a great site.

Robert, that's where I found Bob sleeping in the middle of a row of homeless people while I was having a multi-hour rural ed meeting in one of the rooms there.

Little Rock downtown and on the river has a lot of potential, but they're going to have to work to realize it--make it easy for tourists to enjoy downtown and the River Market and the Clinton Library (and offer plenty of River Front concerts) without having to get in their cars for any reason. I think they're getting there, but I have to overcome a general prejudice against Little Rock to admit it, and outside the district, the town is a huge zero, imo. Hot Springs is worlds better, though the traffic there is getting unbearable.

Oh, and thanks for the link!

And I can't BELIEVE you went to LR from TX and didn't call me! I'd have treated you to a great truckstop meal on the way, if you didn't have time to take the four mile detour from the interstate to my house!

Of course if it was after April, I was recovering from surgery, but in that case you could have brought me a homemade burger from the Shell station!

As you may recall, my brother who recommended it is a high school English teacher. Birds of a feather.

16067. speed55tx - 8/8/2005 2:24:53 PM

Good morning everyone.

16068. Macnas - 8/8/2005 2:26:14 PM

Howdy speed

16069. alistairconnor - 8/8/2005 3:08:55 PM

speed55 - I'm guessing you haven't got DSL?

I'm just wasting bandwidth at work.

16070. Magoseph - 8/8/2005 4:25:15 PM

Hello, everyone--I went to a funeral last night--you'll never guess where...

16071. Macnas - 8/8/2005 4:29:28 PM

Texas?

16072. Magoseph - 8/8/2005 4:33:02 PM

No, Mac, in cyber-space of all places and I became very emotional—I mean, I couldn’t help myself. When I recuperated, Flexy said that it was maybe because I was not able to go to my family’s funerals and I identified with the Fisher family. I’m saying that I was tired and not feeling very well.

16073. Macnas - 8/8/2005 4:36:34 PM

I'm afraid I don't know what you mean Mago. And the exciting conclusion will have to wait, as I am off home now.
Talk to you tomorrow.

16074. Magoseph - 8/8/2005 4:46:12 PM

Mac, the show is Six Feet Under--a highly-rated sitcom that is ending its run this season.

16075. arkymalarky - 8/8/2005 6:00:40 PM

That's right, Wonk!

It's a great home site for English and social studies teachers, because it's got so much great stuff right there that applies to both. I've bookmarked many fine essays and articles on my work computer from that site over the years.

16076. arkymalarky - 8/8/2005 6:02:03 PM

I'm mourning the loss of Peter Jennings.

16077. judithathome - 8/8/2005 7:47:26 PM

Magos, I attended the same funeral...when they played "Knockin' on Heaven's Door", I lost it.

16078. Ulgine Barrows - 8/9/2005 12:01:20 AM

you are all so funny!

thanks so much jexster, you're a peach.

larky, you're right, they need more parking in Hot Springs. I don't know anything about Little Rock and its being a huge zero.... but a few weeks ago the Onion had a great spoof on some unknown southern town trying to make a festival out of the outbreak of some killer bacteria, and it nosedived. Funny.

Magoseph, I will have to look for that 6 Ft Under ep, but I wouldn't put it in the sitcom category!

My husband is late from work. I'm fretting. He's usually on time.

16079. judithathome - 8/9/2005 12:04:16 AM

I would call it more of a dramedy...drama with some comedic aspects to it.

They are rerunning that episode tonight, Ulgine.

16080. wonkers2 - 8/9/2005 12:07:36 AM

I'm mourning the loss of Nate Fisher.
