My aunt and uncle had a three story house designed by the architecture department of the university in Fayetteville and it was built into the side of a hill in Springdale. Coolest house...you pulled up to the front drive and thought WTH? This is a skimpy little one story house! But walk in the front door and wham...it's all open two stories down and the rooms are like decks.

Fantastic house....excellent acoustics!

Oooooookkkkkkaay.

Land there should be a great bargain. It's certainly worth a trip to look around, especially around November.

If Somebody is considering it, that Somebody should give me a call or drop a line and I could probably make a weekend to go that way and show Somebody around what little I know of the area. I'd love any excuse to go up there in the fall, anyway, and Bob's hard to pry from the recliner during the school year.

That sounds fabulous, Judith. There are really a lot of hidden gems in the Ozarks, and it's been a well kept secret for a long time (besides the fact that no one wanted to live in the boonies away from strip malls and restaurants, no matter how beautiful). Northwest AR is booming now.

16254. Ms. No - 8/17/2005 11:29:00 PM

That's a definite, Arky. Nobody's coming anywhere near Arkansas without alerting you first!

16255. Ms. No - 8/17/2005 11:29:29 PM

Judith, you don't have any pictures do you? That sounds fabulous!

16256. judithathome - 8/17/2005 11:57:29 PM

I wish I did...maybe I can ask my uncle to send me some; I need to write him, anyhow.

16257. Ms. No - 8/17/2005 11:59:21 PM

Oh, I hope he does. I'd love to see it.

Damn...all our work to get that new police chief, who was inept, fired, and the guy that was let go last year back in position of police chief...and I just get an email from him sent to the committee saying he is regretful but he feels with all the animosity directed at him by the "other side", he's not going to accept the job!

I can understand him feeling like he would be in a fishbowl but why the hell didn't he speak up while we were doing all that pavement pounding and dooor knocking and working our asses off on his benefit? Sorry for going off like this but it's very distressing...eh, I guess it's just politics.

16259. arkymalarky - 8/18/2005 12:13:41 AM

Another good bit of political insight I got from people I worked with over the last couple of years (which didn't make us feel any better--long story about a long fight that we lost due to a consistent and vocal supporter who turned on us in the last minute), was that the biggest disappointments in politics often come from your "allies."

16260. judithathome - 8/18/2005 12:19:20 AM

No kidding. This has me absolutely stunned. This guy is decent and had full knowledge of how we were risking everything for his ass.

The thing that chaps me is that the dirty side has won out and are chortling like drunken monkies over this. ARRRggghhhh!!!!

16261. Jenerator - 8/18/2005 4:51:44 AM

Is the FOP involved?

Who all was on this committee?

16262. Magoseph - 8/18/2005 2:27:35 PM

I wonder the initials FOP stand for, Jen.

Hello-Butch hates to be medicated. It takes the two of us to clean his ears and then squeeze the ointment.

16263. Macnas - 8/18/2005 2:47:47 PM

Kind of like my great grand father so.

16264. arkymalarky - 8/18/2005 2:52:03 PM

Hahaha.

FOP=Fraternal Order of Police

16265. wonkers2 - 8/18/2005 3:36:06 PM

The FOP or some other law enforcement group is continually doing phone solicitations in Michigan for contributions to their alleged charity. In return you get a car window sticker which they imply will get you favorable treatment if you are stopped by a traffic cop. I went for the scam once years ago, but now I hang up on them.

16266. wonkers2 - 8/18/2005 3:51:10 PM

Judith, are you supporting Kinky Friedman for Governor? There is a good piece on him and his campaign in this week's New Yorker. Kinky

Was feeling good this morning, on the way to work. Will be finished at 2pm, then prepare for a 6am departure tomorrow, 5 hour drive to Paris.

Then, exactly halfway to work, half an hour out of Lyon, there's a sort of a *twang* while I'm changing gear, and I can't get anything but 5th. Not going far with that : I coast to a halt.

Not to worry, there's a garage about a mile further up the road. It's even the right brand, Citroën. I hitch there (OK, I walk there), and of course it's closed for annual holidays. I phone the Citroën help line, they give me three numbers, and they're all closed too...

It's looking like I'm going to be stuck with one of the two big Citroën shops in Lyon... feelings of dread... this time of year, maybe they'll look at it in less than a week...

So I phone the little garage in the village next to mine. I know and trust the guy, and he drops everything to come and pick up the car with his truck. I decide to give up on work, and send my apologies. If anyone can get the car fixed for tomorrow, it'll be him. If he needs parts... then we're in trouble.

It turns out that the part needs to be sent from the factory. He'll have it 10am tomorrow... by skipping lunch, he can have the car ready by 2pm. I reschedule the pickup of the kids, with their mother. Holiday saved.

Ah, the blessing of a good mechanic!
