Speaking of digital cameras, I've posted the one I'm looking at in Escapes. Pelle, you're knowledgeable about such things, might you take a look at it?

Okay, so I've been keeping my under-brain occupied with a German internet radio feed called "Darkland" which is all darkwave and gothic music. They play some of my old favorites and then a lot of stuff I've never heard before but enjoy anyway. For the most part it's been very satisfactory, not much DJ interjection and even when there is, it's all in German so it's like white noise to me.

Until today. They've got some chick on there that's trying really REALLY hard to give her audience a chubby. I mean, I've never heard so much moaning and groaning and lip-smacking and swallowing outside of a porno. Seriously.

What is it about the radio concept of "sexy female voice" that so misses the mark? I mean, it's just annoying. I notice it on the mainstream US radio a lot too --- it's rarely an actual DJ with an assigned broadcast time. It's usually an intern they've tapped to do an ad spot or it's the traffic girl or something.

Maybe it's that they're trying so hard to sound sexy when there's no reason for it? Or maybe my idea of sexy just isn't in line with what the general radio audience finds sexy.

Anyway, this woman is making my teeth itch. I may have to change channels.

On radio voices, there's a local chick on NPR who does the arts and culture updates and she makes me want to hit the radio. She either has adnoids still or some major sinus infection all the time. You know how people sound when their nose is all stopped up but running down their throat, too? That's her. Every day.

Yeah, we've got a couple of those on our local public radio as well. Also a couple of folks with unfortunate speech impediments that I wonder how they ever got into radio. I suppose I should be glad that their speech imperfections were overlooked in favor of their other talents and knowledge, but they're still hard to listen to.

Scary... I might get hired as an expert witness...

16538. judithathome - 9/9/2005 9:35:41 PM

Oh? As an expert in what?

16539. iiibbb - 9/9/2005 9:42:55 PM

The area of forestry that I work on.

16540. judithathome - 9/9/2005 10:12:50 PM

Well, that ought to be a snap for you!

16541. arkymalarky - 9/9/2005 11:39:50 PM

I usually detest women dj's. Mose's best friend is a dj (female) and her voice is the same online as off--like a six year old's. But it's real. Mose's bf was a dj also, and he sounded just like himself. He has a very good dj voice, but he hated the job.

I'm telling you, MsNo, you could do great in that business.

16542. arkymalarky - 9/9/2005 11:40:26 PM

Oooh, that would be cool, 3i3b.

16543. arkymalarky - 9/9/2005 11:42:46 PM

I used to crochet too, Pelle, and it was one of the most relaxing things I found, but I got busy and dropped it. I keep meaning to pick it back up now that things are less hectic. Maybe when it gets cold.

16544. Ms. No - 9/10/2005 12:14:29 AM

I dunno, Arky, I think I'd likely drop the f-bomb within the first ten minutes of my on-air career......or the last ten minutes as the case might turn out to be. ;->

16545. arkymalarky - 9/10/2005 2:15:39 AM

Hey, that's all the rage right now!

16546. wonkers2 - 9/10/2005 3:23:10 AM

Has anybody else heard Ed Shultz, the afternoon stalwart on Air America? He's from a deer hunting, beer drinking pickup driver from North Dakota. I'm sure his views on gun control are close to those of iiibb who I picture as an Ed Shultz-like character. (3i3b, I mean this a a compliment!)

16547. Magoseph - 9/11/2005 10:25:45 AM

Hello, wonk, nice weekend so far?

16548. wonkers2 - 9/11/2005 11:57:08 AM

Hi Mago, so far so good, except my Aunt Margaret died Saturday at age 101 after falling and breaking her hip. That means a quick trip to Valentine, Nebraska, tomorrow. My, your'e up early!

16549. Magoseph - 9/11/2005 12:28:58 PM

Wonk, did aunt Margaret have a good run until the end?

Always up around three, I like the quiet and calm around the house.

16550. wonkers2 - 9/11/2005 1:17:13 PM

She was blind for the last five years or so of her life, but she pretty much retained her mental faculties. She spent the last several years in a nursing home. The last time I saw her she was still living at home and doing pretty well.

16551. thoughtful - 9/11/2005 2:11:58 PM

Wonks, sorry to hear about Aunt Margaret. It's amazing how many people don't survive a broken hip. We tend to think of broken bones as not fatal, but for the elderly it very often is.

16552. arkymalarky - 9/12/2005 1:20:54 AM

I'm sorry about your aunt, Wonk.
