16693. Ms. No - 9/23/2005 5:57:05 PM

The cool thing is that I'm learning so much every time I do something. I mean, when I started the bag, if I'd known what it was going to look like when I finished I'd have been really impressed. As I worked, though, I found so many mistakes that I'll be able to avoid next time, that while I'm happy with the finished product I'll expect the next one to be much better. Mainly this is in the fitting of the tooled leather piece and also, I want to construct the next bag from the ground up. I've got some suede sides that I can cut from rather than using a pre-cut pattern/kit for the bag body. I've already modified the bag from the kit because I didn't like the way they'd done the strap--- there was too much crap hanging off of it. I replaced some of the lacing with nickel rivets and removed some of the decorative lace altogether and I like it much better.

That's a fine piece of work, Ms. No although I don't particularly like the thingies beneath the bag.

Your idea of documenting a project from scratch is very good and one I look forward to. But plase publish the pics in real time. Don't wait until everything is finished.

The sun set here a liitle while ago after a brilliant early autumn day, which reminds me that it is the autumn equinox today. How do you celebrate?

16696. judithathome - 9/23/2005 6:19:22 PM

MsNo, you take that bag and you let anyone know who asks just how long you've been doing this because I predict they will be astonished at how well you've done in such a short time. I also expect many people will tell you that you are a natural born leather tooler!

16697. PsychProf - 9/23/2005 6:20:00 PM

We fuck like rabbits

16698. judithathome - 9/23/2005 6:22:28 PM

Well, Psych, that sounds like as good a way as any...we attend parties where they burn a pumpkin-headed scarecrow and then we eat and drink a lot.

16699. Magoseph - 9/23/2005 7:00:29 PM

Ms. No, I just remember that many budding artists'creativity is short-lived after they go though professional training.

16700. Magoseph - 9/23/2005 7:01:03 PM

Prof, you two are still at it?

16701. Ms. No - 9/23/2005 7:14:03 PM

Pelle,

Real time is a good idea. I never really know how long it takes me in actual hours to do a project. I loose track of the time and then I'll set something aside for a couple days while I work on some other thing that's caught my fancy.

Fringe is kind of a mainstay of the western style. I don't much like it on this bag because I think the dimensions are wrong for it, but in general I like fringe. The only purpose it serves now is aesthetic --- plus if feels really cool. It was originally functional as well as decorative. The fringe helped buckskin clothing to shed water and the fringes could be pulled or cut off if a tie or thong was needed for something.

Magos, thanks for the email! ;-)

16703. Magoseph - 9/23/2005 10:35:28 PM

How long was the blackout, I wonder?

16704. arkymalarky - 9/23/2005 11:18:37 PM

Message # 16676I'm fine, Mags, thanks. I thought I'd posted since then.

We celebrate fall with a rain dance.

Judith, Mose wanted to know how Keoni prepared that spaghetti, because she was going to try it like that. I remembered olive oil, but not details.

16706. judithathome - 9/24/2005 12:11:48 AM

You take the drained, cooked spaghetti a little at a time and add it to hot skillet with a little olive oil and swish it around a bit to remove most of the moisture. then you plate it and add the sauce.

16707. anomie - 9/24/2005 12:21:08 AM

Ms No, I like that leatherwork very much!

Hi Judith.

Hello Mago, Arky!

16708. anomie - 9/24/2005 12:26:20 AM

Jen,

You should seriously consider getting some spider therapy. You know you're doing irrational things by killing the poor creatures yet you persist in your cruel behavior. You should be ashamed.

And I'm just like you!

Did you see any of those huge, but very benign, ones in England? My GF would pick them up and take them outside. I would stomp. Poor things.

16709. arkymalarky - 9/24/2005 1:37:27 AM

Hey Anomie! Great to see you in here!

16710. judithathome - 9/24/2005 3:14:03 AM

Hey, my bud! Keoni is like your GF...won't kill a spider, no matter what.

16711. thoughtful - 9/24/2005 2:38:03 PM

Anyone want to guess what this is? Clue, I took the picture this morning.

16712. Magoseph - 9/24/2005 3:04:44 PM

A fall leave in the birdbath?
