This is pretty much unheard of, in my trade. Arrangements are made, replacements found, and you're free to go to your new job in a month or two, maximum. It didn't help that I resigned in mid summer, but my employer has handled it badly. 16976. The guy does not want to keep me (no problem, I initiated the move after all) and has been dissatisfied for a couple of years (I haven't played the paper trail game well), but he has rejected the proposed replacement candidates, not good enough to replace me.
