18126. Ms. No - 1/7/2006 12:45:42 AM Yeah, that does seem to be a bit long in the tooth to still believe so absolutely in Santa. I can't help wondering if it might cause problems for her with her peers.
I don't know how old she was, but my mother still believed in Santa after most of her schoolmates didn't. She refused to believe them when they told her and ended up asking her mother to write a letter saying that Santa was real....which broke my grandmother's heart because she just couldn't do it.
I think I was about 7 or 8 when I found out. We shared an apartment with one of my mother's college friends and her daughter, Jennifer. She was the one to break the news to my brother and I. It wasn't so bad for me since I kind of already suspected but my brother would only have been about 4. He didn't cry, but when he told my mom, she did.
We were in the grocery store checkout line and he saw some ad for a toy he wanted and my mom said "Well, you'd better put it on your list for Santa." and he said, "It's okay, Mommy, I know you're really Santa." And her eyes welled up with tears and he patted her and said "But we can still pretend. I promise I won't tell anybody!"
18127. arkymalarky - 1/7/2006 12:47:54 AM The homepage photo is stunning. Unfortunately my dialup wouldn't load the others, but it's faster at times, so I'm going to try again this weekend. 18128. judithathome - 1/7/2006 1:24:39 AM Twelve? Jeez, girls who are that old need to be watching Mary Martin sing "Santa Baby"!!! Or Eartha Kitt! 18129. thoughtful - 1/8/2006 5:31:00 PM Yeah, that's what I thought.
I don't remember how old I was but if I had to put it in chronological order, I'm sure my learning about Santa came BEFORE my period, not after!
No, she's not home schooled but goes to a very good public school...these folks live in a very expensive section of a very expensive town, and both husband and wife are well educated and making 6 figure incomes each. They aren't overly religious and while he's of a conservative bent having gone to UChic for his MBA, he's dumped all over W enough not to be considered a radical anything.
Perhaps the daughter is more like Ms No's mom or polly anna and just wants to avoid adulthood as long as possible.
I feel badly for the girl as she's just been diagnosed with severe scoliosis and is facing 18 hr days of being in a back brace for the next 18 mos...and that's the best prognosis. Otherwise it's heavy-duty back surgery. Not fun. Esp since she and her family are very athletic. And of course being that age, you really want to be normal and look your best. Not easy. 18130. wonkers2 - 1/8/2006 7:14:55 PM R con r cigarro,
