Had to take a "personal day" today to register for school and license my car. I'd much rather be at work. I'm dragging my feet about leaving the house and getting it done.

I just came back fron taking Flex to the post office, the town assessor, the food store, and the bank. I took a book with me, thank goodness.

Do your chores, Arky, then enjoy your house.

That's not goian option. I have a full day of errands in addition to what I listed, then I have to work the school ballgame tonight and I won't be home until around 10:00 pm or later. Then it's a busy catch-up three days of work, starting two night classes per week, and a business trip to Little Rock this weekend.

I did finish editing my dad's book--which is fantastic, btw--around midnight last night, because he has to get it to the publisher this month to have it in time for his Marine Company reunion in May.

What's a goian? I need another cup of coffee.

18252. RickNelson - 1/17/2006 6:19:28 PM

I'm dragging feet too arky. Sippin' coffee.

I'm still doing remodel work. Currently a bathroom. I've done five since Oct. '05. Pretty good work too.

One little problem was a horrible cough I developed from the first three, which were all at the same new house. When the trim finishers arrived, the smell and fumes overpowered me and I started to cough uncontrollably. I had two months of the worst and now something persistant.

Lot's of tests and an x-ray, nothing showed. I'm now trying Musilex DM and it's working pretty well.

18253. RickNelson - 1/17/2006 6:20:05 PM

Or is it Musinex?

18254. RickNelson - 1/17/2006 6:23:10 PM

It's absolutely fabulous to read ya'all again. I was kinda lost over at Slate for a while. I guess I thought Poems Fray was pretty busy and then looked around the different writers. It's still full of abussive idiots. Way to many to make anything coherent catch on or be debated.

Though, once in a while, something would take and that tweeked me to keep on.

Sad. Just sad.

Has anyone had anything unfortunate happen with family?

I hope not, but I want to check in about any news.

So I am awakened by a call this morning from the city manager and am informed I'm in charge of the surprise luncheon tomorrow honoring the mayor and his wife for 50 years of marriage...luckily this is a small village!

So I've arranged for 50 pieces of fried chicken...nothing like fried chicken to perk up the older crowd. I'm making those mashed potatoes that have sour cream and cream cheese in them and just flung together a 5 bean salad with a cabernet and wild berry vinaigrette which should make the Gray Panther set sit up and take notice.

Also had to call about 20 people to alert them to be there and bring veggies and fruit and salads.

Nice morning here.....

18257. RickNelson - 1/18/2006 12:13:05 AM

mmmm.. sounds good judith

18258. concerned - 1/18/2006 1:07:55 AM

Mmm...hmmm! How about putting some shredded bacon in the mashed potatoes to make an extra special treat?

18259. judithathome - 1/18/2006 1:24:30 AM

Concerned, these potatoes will have sour cream and cream cheese and a stick of butter in them...they're decadent enough. ;-)

18260. wonkers2 - 1/18/2006 1:56:00 AM

Shredded bacon is a must in mashed potatoes along with some shredded parsely.

18261. wonkers2 - 1/18/2006 1:56:21 AM

Plus a dash of tabasco.

18262. judithathome - 1/18/2006 2:10:45 AM

Well, I haven't done any of that on the ones I've taken to parties before and I always come home with an empty bowl so....

I'm not adding Tabasco to anything. I think if you have to add something to a dish that burns your mouth, you aren't relying on the fact that some foods taste just fine as they are without doctoring.

18263. arkymalarky - 1/18/2006 2:14:08 AM

They knew who to call, Judith! Sounds like it's going to be wonderful.

Y'all quit messin' up Judith's potatoes! I know they're good, because I've made them--and that's the true test of any recipe.

18264. arkymalarky - 1/18/2006 2:15:10 AM

Rick, I love the fact you're back in the Mote. I hope you take the time to enjoy Nu's work in Poetry and add some of your own!

18265. arkymalarky - 1/18/2006 2:18:45 AM

I am not surfing with my laptop while taking tickets for the ballgame. It took so long to do everything I had to do so I had to call and get someone to cover for me, so I'm going to work on a Friday night in a few weeks. We do one a year.

But I am registered for Tuesday and Wednesday night classes--Intro to Research and Public School Law.

And my car is licensed, and my hair is cut. The ordeal for registering the car and for classes was ridiculously convoluted and time consuming.

18266. wonkers2 - 1/18/2006 2:38:26 AM

Tabasco is a more healthful substitute for salt, according to my doctor. And you shouldn't add enough so that the potatoes or whatever you add it to burn your mouth.

18267. wonkers2 - 1/18/2006 2:39:43 AM

Mashed potatoes taste is a bit blah without lots of butter and salt.
