There are a couple JH women who just love my father. If he isn't available, they just drop off the two publications and leave. They were here this morning and had the misfortune of meeting one of my brothers, who can be incredibly rude with anyone who doesn't see eye to eye with him (in truth, both brothers are that way). If they were men, my father would probably be equally rude, but as they are very nice women and seem entertained with hashing out a discussion, my father quite enjoys their occasional visits.

I've told it in the Religion thread, but our funniest ever JH story was when Bob and his friend Jim were living together out in the country and they were sitting on the porch when some JHs came by--a vanload with several children. Jim got to philosophizing, as he can tend to do, and when he tried to elaborate his point by saying--just like he would to any of us--"Take that f'ing pear tree, for example...." it unintentionally put an end to their JH visits. No one said a word, and they didn't rush off, but they began gathering up their things and making their excuses and piled back into the van.

Went to a big County Chair(person) debate and when I walked in, the place was packed. The lady I'm supporting as a candidate grabbed me and hugged me and said "COME HERE! I want you to meet your fans!" and she led me over to a table of people and said "This is my favorite political activist, Judith (AtHome), who writes such wonderful letters to the editor." and this gorgeous gray-haired guy jumped up and grabbed my hand and said "Judith (AtHome)!! from (my village name) I've been reading your letters for years and now I can put a face...and a very lovely one, at that...to your words!" He is a former councilman and judge. (And flirt, I guess!) And then, this other guy introduced himself and it turns out he has been here in town for three years after retiring as head of the editorial page at....The New York Times!! I introduced Keoni and they asked us to join them and it was just. too. cool.

That happened today...guess I was in such a rush to brag on myself, I left that point out!

18495. arkymalarky - 2/12/2006 2:05:15 AM

Sounds like you might have to prepare to get drafted into politics!

18496. wonkers2 - 2/12/2006 2:30:42 AM

Judith, why not introduce him to The Mote?

18497. judithathome - 2/12/2006 3:12:27 AM

Wonk, I just might do that!

I've tried to turn several people on to The Mote, but so far the only one who has responded is my brother who mostly lurks.

Good morning—I’m happy about Thoughtful’s news and delighted that Flex’s cast is out along with the four pins and that now he only sports a splint with Velcro straps.

He has to wear this between bouts of exercising the wrist where the break was the worst. Anyway, he won’t take the dog out, nor will he be driving or taking the garbage to the curb, at least until April, so the doctor says.

18500. PelleNilsson - 2/12/2006 6:33:02 PM

Is that what Flexy says the doctor says?

18501. wonkers2 - 2/12/2006 6:41:56 PM

Ha! Pelle has a wry sense of humor.

18502. Magoseph - 2/12/2006 7:11:51 PM

Hahaha, good point, but I was there, the doctor asked what Flexy’s regular daily activities were, and I just enumerated them for him.

18503. PelleNilsson - 2/12/2006 7:14:35 PM

Male solidarity.

18504. arkymalarky - 2/12/2006 7:43:12 PM

Now, how do you know the doctor wasn't female?

18505. wonkers2 - 2/12/2006 7:48:51 PM

Mago would never trust Flexy with a woman doctor! Maybe that's why she accompanied him???

18506. PelleNilsson - 2/12/2006 9:01:42 PM

"I just enumerated them for him."

I can see the scene. Flexy and Mago sits there. Mago in her Gallic intensity leans forward and enumerates. Flexy sits back. The doctor sees them both. Flexy sends manly, but subtle, signals about his preferences.

Ha ha yes, I think I can see it.

Mago starts to speak, laying down Mago-law in no uncertain terms..

Doctor glances at Flexy.."always like this?"..

Flexy blinks once.."oh yeah"..

Doctor lowers his chin and raises one eyebrow.."no sweat, I got you covered"

Flexy turning his face to Mago and nodding as if in full agreement with everything she says.."solid, I owe you one".

18509. Magoseph - 2/13/2006 6:07:42 PM

Hahaha, you, kidders, you’re the ones who didn’t see my ploy, which was to get what I really wanted and that is to keep the patient happy, resting, and healing!

18510. Macnas - 2/13/2006 6:10:50 PM

Lucky man that Flexy.
