A LITTLE?

A lot, Ulgine, I must say.

Still bitter weather around here--no one walks outside. Butch and I slide on the ice when he has to go. Tomorrow starts a string of good days--around here thirty degrees is a good day.

Glad you made it home all right, Judith.

Follow-up to the play post: we found the movie of the same play running this afternoon! We watched it and enjoyed it as much as the play.

Doc's office called...my MRI is not until FRIDAY.

18635. Ms. No - 2/20/2006 11:36:28 PM

Damn! That's a long time to wait.

18636. Ms. No - 2/20/2006 11:37:01 PM

I'm having no problem posting, but I can't preview --- or at least I couldn't a minute ago, lemme see if I can now.

18637. Ms. No - 2/20/2006 11:37:33 PM

hmmm....maybe it was a sign that I shouldn't have been posting what I was intending to post. I'll have to go back and think about it some more. ;->

Damn! That's a long time to wait.

No shit! I'll be a Rush-caliber druggie by then!

Back from a weekend visiting dearest friends and skiing with the kids... great battery-charging experience.

Gine, when the planets line up right, I'll be there.

18640. alistairConnor - 2/21/2006 1:08:45 AM

Ha! just read an email from the friend we visited, from last Thursday...

... suggesting we postpone the visit, because of the awful weather...
... which turned out to be just fine. I'm glad I didn't read the mail (I was in Spain at the time)

Magos, the 30 Minute Meal show is on Food Network right now...despite Ulgine's claim, I see the lady cutting her own veggies.

Hello, Mote. Where ya been?

18641. judithathome, that's not the point...
I can chop my own veggies and make one of those recipes if I have minions gathering all the ingredients and laying them out for my 30-minute spot, or I can gather all the ingredients and have a minion chop them...or if I've made that recipe 3 times, and have all the ingredients ready, it might be 30 minutes.

Like most quick recipe cookbooks, it only works if you happen to carry the same common pantry items as the author.

Actually, Rachyl Ray's pantry is a lot closer to mine than say, Martha's or Martin Yan's.

18632. Magoseph -
A LITTLE?

Well, I'm glad it made you laugh, husbands are dying all over town around here....this guy I work with, he got real sick and is in ICU all of a sudden. Vision of health, all of a sudden he is sick, his wife calls up, all freaked out, and no wonder!

I hope Flexy is getting better.

Here's a virtual cupcake with dinosaur sprinkles on it, one each for you & him.

18647. Ulgine Barrows - 2/22/2006 3:47:42 AM

o gawd, my son wanted cupcakes baked in those icre cream cone things so he could take to school for his birthday.

The first dozen, I overfilled and they looked awful. Something brown dribbling down the sides....not happy and puffy AT ALL like the picture on the box.

18648. Ulgine Barrows - 2/22/2006 4:00:43 AM

Oh, and the directions to fill 3/4th?

Hello, let's say 2/3rds.

Well, duh...the only way we can cook like ANY of those shows is if we happen to have those staples on hand...hell, the only way I can make poached salmon with lemon, capers, and dill poached in wine is if I have all those things on hand.

The point of these shows is for the person at home to watch and if they like the recipe, to go out and purchase the ingredients and then prepare the dish. The same with reading a cookbook: if you see a reipe you'd like to try, purchase the ingredients and follow the directions.

18650. Ulgine Barrows - 2/22/2006 4:14:54 AM

What's up, judithathome?

Maybe I didn't make myself clear, I only got the Rachyl Ray book after looking it over in the library several times... and noticing her pantry was much the same as mine...yet, those recipes don't take 30 minutes.

Or duh, I'm a slow cook or chef.

18651. Ulgine Barrows - 2/22/2006 4:19:03 AM

And it's been my experience that most of the time spent making excellent meals, is vegetable and spice prep.
