19982. Trillium - 8/6/2006 9:29:48 PM Oooh. It sounds like you picked a good spot; that's the kind of garden that I like, totally volunteer, no sweating.
The garden back of Mom's is unusually good soil and produces profusely. Only problem: raccoons and groundhogs who also like the harvest. Sometimes they get there first. 19983. arkymalarky - 8/6/2006 9:44:12 PM I'm really surprised nothing's gotten into ours yet. It's not even by the house, but where Bob's grandmother had a garden spot, so it is especially good, but not convenient for maintenance. Bob drives the tractor down there. In fact, the Caddo Indians liked it as well, and they've found nice arrowheads and other artifacts there for years. 19984. arkymalarky - 8/6/2006 9:48:22 PM I got tickled when we were in CO over a news segment on organic farmers. They were having problems with prairie dogs and since they couldn't poison them, they were blowing them up with propane. Reminded me of Caddyshack. So much for my preconceived stereotype of organic farmers. 19985. anomie - 8/6/2006 10:11:44 PM Arky,
Not sure what my plans are. If I have to get to Las Vegas to receive my goods shipment, the direct route is I40. It'd be great to meet you. Too bad the watermelons won't last that long. 19986. arkymalarky - 8/6/2006 11:37:05 PM As late as we planted them, there's no telling. If you go I-40 through Little Rock and/or Ft. Smith, let me know and I'd love to drive up and meet you. 19987. arkymalarky - 8/6/2006 11:39:08 PM Actually LR--Ft. Smith is about 3 hours from here. Not that meeting you wouldn't be worth a three-hour drive! 19988. anomie - 8/6/2006 11:59:52 PM There's bound to be a corner filling station with a cold pop machine somewhere in the middle. We can meet there for an RC or Nehi grape. (Sound Southern enough? I actually remember those old gas stations with the pop machines you reach down into and slide the bottle through the groove.) Maybe a Moon Pie too. 19989. arkymalarky - 8/7/2006 12:44:22 AM Oh yes. And salted peanuts. 19990. Magoseph - 8/7/2006 12:25:27 PM I appreciate the welcome mat here...
Trillum, I am delighted that you are now a participant on this thread.

Against some fierce competition, too. 19993. wabbit - 8/7/2006 1:07:55 PM Well, I'll pitch in and get things moving toward 20K. 19994. wabbit - 8/7/2006 1:08:34 PM If mags doesn't get back, she's going to miss her chance. 19995. wabbit - 8/7/2006 1:12:54 PM I don't think I ever got a millennial at the Fray. 19996. Magoseph - 8/7/2006 1:34:36 PM I don't want to take it, Wab. 19997. Magoseph - 8/7/2006 1:37:12 PM I never can get a millenium, so... 19998.
