20588. judithathome - 11/20/2006 11:08:59 PM We're staying home with our new kitty.
Having smoked turkey breast and sweet potato/carrot casserole and maybe have a few people over for pie later. 20589. robertjayb - 11/21/2006 12:06:13 AM judith, how about a recipe for that casserole?
Spouse has been experimenting with sweet potato dishes...this sounds interesting.
20590. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 11/21/2006 12:11:24 AM We're seriously toying with the idea of making Turducken.
Has anyone here ever tried this dish?
20591. wonkers2 - 11/21/2006 12:22:50 AM Nope, and the name is a bit off-putting. 20592. wonkers2 - 11/21/2006 12:26:52 AM Are you sure it's not a put-on? 20593. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 11/21/2006 12:42:31 AM No, I've heard of it before. Did you click on the link? It's a pretty elaborate dish with sides. 20594. arkymalarky - 11/21/2006 5:40:45 AM I'm writing two term papers and reading a pile of books and research materials. I'll make an appearance at the in-laws and my parents'. I'll do the same over Christmas, but after that things will slow down, so I'm not too upset about it. 20595. arkymalarky - 11/21/2006 5:41:34 AM I have to write four papers over Christmas, but I should have plenty of time for it. 20596. wabbit - 11/21/2006 6:01:42 PM WoW, that looks like waaay too much work.
I'm driving the folks to PA to spend the weekend with relatives. Mom is looking forward to it, but Dad will piss and moan the whole time (and yet, he won't not go).
I'll get to spend a few hours with cousins I only see every few years, which will be great fun. And it looks like I'll have good driving weather.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! 20597. judithathome - 11/21/2006 6:20:09 PM Robert, I tested it out last night but didn't use measurements. I used two big cans of sweet potatoes, drained, and one can of DelMonte Honey Glazed carrots (with the liquid they came in but may drain half of it off next time.) Mashed all that together with cinnamon and some nutmeg, a slosh of maple syrup, a splash of half-and-half and baked it in the oven at 350 for half an hour.
I think it would be better with the meat of baked sweet potatoes but Keoni said the ones at the store looked awful so he got canned ones. I can't eat nuts but if I could, I'd sprinkle pecans over the top. 20598. robertjayb - 11/21/2006 11:34:28 PM Thanks, judith. 20599. judithathome - 11/23/2006 9:36:48 PM Here's a quote my sisrer sent me for Thanksgiving...I think it's perfect to pass on to all my friends here:
"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...It turns problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing, and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow." ~ Melodie Beattie
20600. judithathome - 11/23/2006 9:48:41 PM Well, damn...it was my sisTer. 20601. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 11/23/2006 10:49:07 PM Wabb, Yeah it is too much work–I punked out and got a turkey breast.
Judith, that's lovely, thanks.
Happy Gratitude Day, everyone! 20602. Magoseph - 11/24/2006 2:14:23 PM We went out for breakfast before the Macy's Parade and then in the afternoon had turkey sandwiches. Kids, his and mine, all called--It was a gorgeous day, so we walked in the sun for an hour.
20603. judithathome - 11/24/2006 6:36:34 PM Woke up this morning to find Harley had lost her NOSE! That cute little white stripe and "Roman-looking" nose was gone and in its place is a bald, straight little strip of pink flesh...I found the little "carapace" on the bathroom scale. It looks like a fake nose piece...not the nostril parts but what was in place on the bridge of her nose.
Has anyone ever heard of this before? Do you think the hair will grow back across the bridge of her nose?
I used to rub that part of her nose and it felt like a hard little cartilege-type thing, with a slight bump at the top. I was shocked to see her nose this morning. 20604. arkymalarky - 11/24/2006 7:16:55 PM Ohmigosh! You might be able to call a vet today and ask. 20605. arkymalarky - 11/24/2006 7:17:44 PM Maybe he can replace it with a Michael Jackson type. ;-) 20606. wonkers2 - 11/24/2006 10:05:41 PM Sounds like cataleprosy to me. 20607. wonkers2 - 11/24/2006 10:06:39 PM Please excuse me for sounding unsypathetic! I just couldn't resist.
