20816. anomie - 1/1/2007 9:13:41 PM All the best to everyone in 2007! I thought I'd start the year by remembering my Mote password and saying hello.
I'm fairly well settled into my house in Vegas since I arrived on 1 Dec. My trip coincided with Thanksgiving and so I spent it with my sister in Chicago. From there I rushed over the Colorado Rockies just ahead of a big storm and was lucky to make it despite some blinding snow that lasted only about an hour.
So, it was my loss not to drive through Judithland or Arkyland and meet two of our favorite and indespensible Mote members. But we live for another day.

Mine are to learn to play Inventions more passably, and brush up on Greek so I can finish the Odyssey.

Current board games are Carcassonne and Alhambra. The right level for me and my daughters. They will presumably have better things to do by the time we're ready for really clever stuff.
Greek is a noble ambition. I've been reading the classics in translation, off and on : Aristophanes most recently. Translations vary enormously, which makes one want to read the original, but despair of ever understanding it. Translation is very culture-sensitive. The last translation I read makes the plays seem like pornographic English pantomime. Laborious footnotes makes it even funnier, to me. 20835. thoughtful - 1/5/2007 3:24:48 PM Have you heard about lulu.com?
