#21088:
LOL!

It may involve having credentials of that trade (like a Master electrician) or belonging to an interior decorating organization, in which case you'd have to have a membership card or certificate or something. I have a friend who's an interior decorator. I'll ask him.

Thoughtful, in my state, you can get a Tax ID as a "sole proprietor" of a business, say...an antiques business...and obtain a tax ID number. You, for instance, could acquire one for Thoughtful Interiors...and use it in shopping for fabric, etc. But go ahead and pay your taxes on what you buy...then, at the end of the year, you'll get a tax statement and all you you have to do is list $0.00 in the column that shows what you owe. I never claimed tax owed status because everything I bought was for resale and everything I didn't pay tax on was later resold and tax was charged on it then.

You'd need to show on the state tax form that your business ddidn't make a profit and that you didn't buy things tax free...however, you could use the tax ID to get into trade shops.

What's going on here? Even jexster is hardly attacking me any more. I'll be forced to post more substantive content and not indulge in irony and smarting off if you guys keep this up.

What can we say? We're a kinder, gentler Mote.

Harley report: today Harley was basking in the 70 degree sun in the front door (glass screen door) and I hear the doorbell...thinking it might be my mechanic delivering my car, I go in and see Harley all "Hallowwen-cat-backed" and fluffed out and hissing like a rabid racoon and then she bolts out of the room.

Turns out, it's my friend Patti with her Boston Terrier. They had just been to the dog park and Ollie was in dire need of a a drink of water...seems Ollie had been in a friendly mood and wanted Harley to notice him through the glass door.

Harley hid for over 45 minutes afterward. It occurred to me later that she has never come in contact with a dog before and she was scared out of her wits.

A new young cat is such a joyful time, Judith–relish it!

I won't be online tomorrow because my son is going into the hospital for a procedure to put a stent in his leg...he has peripheal vascular disease and could have lost his foot over the weekend because some fool at the ER told him he had a muscle cramp.

21098. wonkers2 - 2/8/2007 4:18:26 AM

Take care.

21099. arkymalarky - 2/8/2007 5:03:42 AM

Oh my, Judith. I hope all goes well.

21100. Magoseph - 2/8/2007 6:46:07 AM

I hope so too, Judith--check back as soon as you can and you also, thoughtful!

I have a question...there are lots of stores with fabrics and decorator supplies and furniture that sell to the "trade only"

That sounds like you are in a fairly large city. Go to a trade show and get some cards.

Or go to the showrooms and tell them you're just starting; can they help you?

Smile like you're not an idiot.
Smile a lot, if you've good dental work going on.

Works better when you are 20-something, alas for me.
I can still get that mojo going at 46, depends on the day.

21102. Ulgine Barrows - 2/8/2007 9:56:13 AM

never mind.
I had to sign into this clunky interface again, to say,

we tried to sell fund raiser tickest in front of a WalMart, in teen-degree weather.

21103. Ulgine Barrows - 2/8/2007 10:00:52 AM

OK. Maybe I don't have to move. There is an original 1-room cabin in Missouri that I could rent.

21104. alistairconnor - 2/8/2007 2:45:31 PM

what are you raising money for, Ulgine? School stuff?

21105. thoughtful - 2/8/2007 4:30:22 PM

OK, thanks for the advice. I may just try that...thoughtful interiors...i like the sound of that!

21106. thoughtful - 2/8/2007 4:30:47 PM

Thinking about your son J@h and hope all goes well.

21107. TheWizardOfWhimsy - 2/8/2007 5:24:39 PM

Every good wish, Judith.

Leslie was in surgery for two and a half hours this morning and is still in recovery. They will be moving him to the Heart Care building at Harris with in the next two hours where he will be held overnight. The vascular surgeon has prepared us for the worst...his right leg now has only one working artery from the knee down and they sucked out all the blood clots that were in it...the surgeon said the next 12 hours will tell whether or not that artery will be able to handle blood flow and if not, he will lose the leg from the knee down. He said the left leg is not much better and he could possibly lose it, too, in the future.

He was very honest with us and seemed to think the outlook is pretty grim for the right leg. He did mention that Leslie must get into therapy soon. So I am not all that hopeful that this is going to end well. I hope I'm very wrong.

21109. thoughtful - 2/9/2007 12:17:39 AM

Oh dear. I'm so sorry to hear this. But please don't borrow trouble...jump off that bridge when you get to it and be hopeful that this will work for him.

Remember too that they've made tremendous improvements with prosthetics, especially, and unfortunately, since so many amputees are returning from iraq. Should it come to pass, it is not a life sentence to immobility by any means.

I'm sending all my best wishes for strength courage comfort and hope your way.
