We spent time in the safe room last night, waiting for tornados to hit...they didn't but we enjoyed a good chianti while waiting.

Arky, did you get any of that storm last night or did it peter out on the way?

The Cap'n sez "Thanks, Mago. How about a moonlight cruise? Bring yer friend Sego along, no extry charge." How do you say "Wow, what a looker in French?" Quelle belle dame? How could she possibly lose?

I know I'll die alone.

Could be, we never know. We just don't want to make it a self-fulfilling prophecy. I've seen people who I would have sworn that about, who were surrounded by loving family and friends in their last days due to changes most never thought they'd make (mostly involving alcohol).

Judith,

It came through, but the line was very thin. Lots of wind and lightning but I'd say for less than 20 minutes. If I hadn't been awake I don't think it would have woke me up.

New Car? Wadja get, Ulgine?

21678. arkymalarky - 4/26/2007 2:34:41 AM

If you do die alone, make sure you don't have cats.

If my lovely daughter-in-law became the executor of our living will, she would probably place Butch in a kennel where he‘d die of grief.

21680. Magoseph - 4/27/2007 9:00:51 PM

Where's everybody?

21681. judithathome - 4/28/2007 12:05:12 AM

Took Harley to the vet for stitches removal and nail trim and then I had to go to MY doctor for prescription renewal...whole day has been a bust. Nap time...since Keoni won't be home til about 9pm.

WHAT IS A SAFE ROOm?

patsy

21683. arkymalarky - 4/28/2007 3:23:32 AM

Hey Patsy!

In some houses or buildings without storm cellars or in addition to them (don't know about Judith's) it's a specially designed steel-reinforced central room for a tornado. A school I used to work in built a nice one that could hold all the kids in the event of a tornado (it's a small school).

21684. arkymalarky - 4/28/2007 3:24:09 AM

Well, it's not FOR a tornado, since the idea is to keep them out rather than invite them in.

21685. betty - 4/28/2007 3:46:07 AM

can we just talk about the fact that I am thirty, single, not so ugly that dogs start howling when I enter a room and I am laying on the loveseat, in a pink wife beater and typing a stupid freakin' paper on a Friday night when I should be nicely intoxicated and getting lucky?

21686. concerned - 4/28/2007 3:53:09 AM

Or dogs.

21687. concerned - 4/28/2007 3:53:52 AM

Re. 21685-

Typing a paper? What for?

21688. betty - 4/28/2007 4:12:14 AM

senior thesis. about a mall. this guy Victor Gruen who invented "the Mall" as concept was a socialist, so there are some ideological tensions that I'm exploring...

21689. judithathome - 4/28/2007 7:11:19 AM

Patsy, my safe room is just the laundry room...only room in the house without windows.

Arky, didn't you mean something a bit more unsavory (no pun!) about not having cats if you die alone? I didn't think you meant leaving the pets as orphans so much as them possibly having you for dinner...saw some cop show where that was a theme recently...or maybe the news had something about it.

So tomorrow I'm going to tell everyone what we're doing for my birthday next week...don't want to reveal too much at one sitting. ;-)

21690. arkymalarky - 4/28/2007 4:49:45 PM

Yes, exactly--grim sorta-joking, not really joking. It happened to an old man in the community where I work. It was sad because he had no one close enough to even check on him for about a week, which is saying a lot in a community that small, where everyone knows everyone.

Wrt the birthday, don't leave us hanging too long on the plan, Judith!

I'm awful about remembering birthdays, but I always remember yours because it's the day after Jim's. And I always remember Jim's because it's the day before yours. ;-)

I knew that would post twice, but I couldn't get the page to load. Sorry!

Betty,

Just wait ten years and you'll consider being home unintoxicated with some time to yourself lucky. And no paper to write, unless you want to! Or in my case, I'll be 50.

I have one more paper to write this week. I don't think I have to write one for my summer class.
